Spent many wonderful nights coming to the Admiral Theater screening Hollywood's latest movies. The building dates to 1919 and was originally known as the Portola Theatre. With a somewhat nautical theme, the face of the theater sported two portholes. The old theater has been remodeled a few times yet it's kept most of its original style well kind of cause originally a single theater then converted into two screen in the 70's... The décor in the lobby is still the somewhat the same in my opinion. Note they still serve buttered popcorn & soda plus candy for your consumption during your movie experience. Now the seating plain sucks compared to the stadium style theaters of today but the place is charming and full of character... Over the years I have viewed many theatrical releases but my favorites were when they use to have $1 Tuesdays in the 80's... Or we called tight wade Tuesdays when it was filled with local high school kids from West Seattle High and we raised hell from spit wads to underage drinking to an occasional date with benefits if you catch my drift.... Last weekend we hosted a buyout party for friends and family of Lionsgate Michael at the Admiral theater. It was great! Danny the theater manger was so accommodating and professional and happily took care of all of our requests. The whole event was perfect! The screens at the Admiral are great, the sound was excellent, the seats comfortable and the concessions including beer, wine and ciders all very reasonably priced. Danny did an excellent job of coordinating and really went above and beyond for us! Thank you Danny and the Admiral theater. Everyone should be as lucky to have a local independent movie theater like the Admiral. Get out and see a movie in a theater! read more

This place is gone way downhill! Started of walked into the theater to absolutely no lights. Had to go out front and ask them to turn on the lights place was absolutely freezing. The gal working the counter said they didn't know how to shut off the AC and then the show was supposed to start at 1:50. The previews didn't even start until 10 after one and then that was it because they couldn't get the movie to play and then I had to argue with the manager about getting a refund he wanted to just give me tickets which I said absolutely not because I will never visit that place again won't be surprised if it's shut down within the next few months. read more

The good is that they're located nearby. The real bad is that they were supposed to have a special showing of 'wicked' today Wednesday November 19th at 2:00 p.m. people were gathering in a line but the theater was locked up, nobody inside as far as we could see!! Manny is the meanest employee and incredibly rude. We have been going to this theater for 10 years and loved it until now. So sad! We waited in a long line to buy tickets. And when we got back to buy concessions he refused to serve us and said we had to go back to the purchase ticket line. I'm not sure I understand the system. Never had that experience before! I understand they have protocol but instead of conveying that kindly he was aggressive. I have a video of the whole experience that i am happy to share. When I asked the young employee in front for a pen to leave my number for the manager, he said no sorry you can't use my pen. These guys (the employees) can but not you. Admiral Theatres is really cool and I don't know why it took me so long to try it! It is a smaller theater than your typical Regal or AMC, but they do have four screens and they play current movies. I watched the movie Parasite there. I didn't want to pay $5 to rent it from Amazon Video and I thought it would be nice to watch it as part of an audience. I went to a matinee (before 5 pm), so it only cost $11 (regularly $13.50). You can buy your ticket online, but I didn't want to pay a $1.25 per ticket convenience fee. When I showed up to the theater, there was basically one line where you can buy your ticket and concessions at the same time. I also purchased a small Coke and a popcorn. The popcorn was pretty good/fresh and they had a do-it-yourself butter station, which I always appreciate! Overall, I think it was probably cheaper than the snacks at a regular movie theater. The theater I was in was quite nice. The seats were comfortable, they had cup holders, and the floor was sloped enough so I had a good view of the screen. I thought the picture and sound quality were normal too. I remember the bathrooms being weird because they had the outer door propped open. I don't know if they just forgot to close those because it was the first show of the day or if they leave those open all the time. Oh yeah, it is also really hard to park in this area. Parking is free (if you can find a spot), but the spots are only for 2 hours and most movies are longer than that of course. Purchased tickets early for the Thursday November 21 showing of Wicked: For Good. Got to theater to be met with 'Sorry folks, we don't have the movie. We sent a CHECK to the EAST coast on Monday, it still hasn't cleared and we don't have the movie or the rights to show it.' (clearly Far Away Entertainment has bad credit, because who the H sends checks anymore...) While standing there with other clearly disappointed patrons, a couple came in, heard the news and said 'This is the second night in a row you haven't had the movie. We are driving here from Bonney Lake (one hour+ away)!" We asked for our refund, which we got immediately. A day later I look at my bank statement to see that we got refunded for the ticket, but not the service fees! While a couple bucks individually isn't a big deal, cumulatively across alllll the people they likely scammed, it's a HUGE deal. I went to the theater today to inquire about this and was met with huge attitude Danny. 'Nothing I can do about this. You can leave a google review and maybe my boss and the owner will see it." When I asked if he took care of the couple that drove to Seattle from Bonney Lake TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW, he shrugged his shoulders and just said "yeah, whatever, I tried to. You can go on the website for owner contact info. Talk to them." I've supported the west Seattle Admiral theater for decades, despite its trash can interior, it's ridiculous prices with uncomfortable seats, disgusting bathrooms, wallpaper peeling from the walls, because it's a local, historic theater. This was it. I can go five miles away to a clean environment, better concessions, reclining, cushy seats, and a similar price per ticket. You can do better Far Away, you can do better. read more

This place isn't a modern theater with fancy food and seats. It is, however, a great place to go to watch a movie in the neighborhood with a staff that really cares about movies and customer service. The floors are a bit sticky and my feet don't touch the ground, but the sound is good, the popcorn is good, and you can drink a beer while watching the movie which still feels like a fun novelty for me. They generally have a good selection of films - although probably leaning a bit more towards family friendly than my suits my taste. I will note that we used to go here once a week but since COVID it's been more like once a year. I will say though that they have been good about following and enforcing whatever the latest protocol is. read more

The Admiral Theatres is a historical landmark. A few years back they restored it. I like it. 4 screens? Always a comfy spot. The popcorn is great. Beer is available. The latest movies. Short lines. What's not to like? They even have the occasional 3D movie. read more

Good place to see a movie if you don't want to leave West Seattle. I wish the concessions were better. I once got a box of Skittles that was so hard I couldn't chew them. They exchanged them for me without issue, but acted like it was a common occurrence. The Icee machine has also been broken since my kids were little, not sure if it's fixed yet. read more

Has anyone seen Gladiator II at the Admiral Theater lately? We went last weekend and the print was so dark you could barely make out actors faces almost like you were watching it through polarized sunglasses. The film looked like there was no bulb in the projector. This was in Theater 2 (I think). This isn't the first time a movie there was so dark. Can anyone tell me what's up with that theater? I like the convenience but not if the print is so dark. I can't believe this was the director's intention. read more

For the second time, no one showed up to open the theater for an early Saturday Met Opera show. No phone number to reach anyone.

This used to be the old standby for second run films. Also a good place to see a movie that does not have intense audio or visuals. But now they have the contemporary blockbusters. However If seeing a modern, highly produced film at full price, it is wise to skip the Admiral and go to a nice theatre downtown or Southcenter as their sound and imaging systems are well below par. One last point - concessions mark up. This is of course how theaters make most their earnings. Admiral has nice beer selections at fair prices. But $3 for a k-Cup watered down coffee is just insulting. And besides the beer, the remainder of the concession offerings are standard fair from an 80's theatre. If they want to pull off the funky neighborhood theatre experience, they'd be smart to not just source their movie treats from Costco. Would keep customers from smuggling in their own goods, as well. Went to see a three hour movie ( Killers of the Flower Moon) The theater #3 was freezing cold! Complained to staff and was told it was broken and nothing they could do. Apparently it's been like this for quite sometime. Absolutely unacceptable read more

You want to like this place for the history and style. However, the operators are letting this place rot. It's a shame the building is just being left to crack, rugs aren't attached to the floors in places, the theaters are musty, and restrooms are bad. What is good is the history and the fact theaters like this are fun to visit. The concession are great. Most. Of the staff is nice, excluding the guy that said we needed to go to our seat in total darkness but then turned on the lights. I am happy I went here but I might not be going back. read more

Great local place to watch a movie, though parking in the area can be a little annoying from time to time... but nonetheless, I like going there. when the implementation of the vaccination card checking first started, I totally forgot that I was supposed to have that all ready to go to show it to the person, and I had some trouble finding a picture of it I took to show my employer, and even taking like 15 minutes to search my phone, they still let me stand off to the side, and treated me with respect and kindness. read more

So... normally they would get three stars from me, but they are spending $$$$ to update and make this a great local theatre that shows first run movies. They bathrooms have been completely remodeled. They split the two huge, impossible to fill, theaters into 4 perfect sized ones. Redone all the seats and wires for Dolby sound. It is awesome to see a current movie locally and not have to drive all the way to South Center or downtown. There snacks could be better and I will be happy when they open up the bar upstairs again, but those things are trivial when you take into consideration that a local historic theatre has been saved, is still reliving and is trying to be as nice as possible. read more

I went to these theatres at a time when there were boxes and boxes of new chairs sitting in the foyer. As such, I went in knowing that the seats I would be on would probably not be the best... And, they weren't. They were extremely spacious (as in between rows, so those of you who are sick of kicking the seat in front of you every time you cross your legs, don't worry), but also extremely old. But now they shouldn't be. Maybe I shouldn't be writing this review at all given it's of the past theatre. Okay, I'll just add a star assuming they've gotten better. Service is good, theatre is fine--probably pretty comfy now with the new seats, and popcorn is alright. Street parking is pretty darn easy, especially if you go at night. Pricing is a touch cheaper than fancier venues like AMC. Bottom line: Neighborhood theatre surviving and reviving. Support them! read more

Not sure why this place doesn't have more stars! It's older- yes, but it's also priced low enough that you don't have to take out a second loan to go to the movies. If you come in the middle of the week you can even get tickets for a fraction of the price. The seats don't recline but you can be confident that you'll get in to see a new movie opening weekend. There's plenty of street parking and lots of decent restaurants nearby. Employees are friendly and this is great, no frills theatre for the neighborhood. FYI- You can buy tickets on their website. There is a small extra charge but it may be worth it if you want to pre-pay for tickets to guarantee a seat without having to purchase it at the theater. read more

I realized that not too long ago the Admiral Twin had upgraded their projectors to be able to run first run movies. This is really great, now we can see the latest new movies without leaving the comfort and convenience of West Seattle! The staff at the Admiral are always terrific and that makes for an awesome movie going experience for me. Parking can be a little tricky if you don't eat one of the close spots on the street, but it's never really an issue. read more

This quirky little theatre up in West Seattle sports a nautical theme (hence the name). Its an old theatre as you can tell by the 20 layers of paint on the interior fixtures. The interior is a bit beat up and it si showing its age. Concession stand popcorn seem to be substandard. The seats itself can a bit jacked up. I think a saw a few with plastc wrap and duct tape. Parking is street which can usually be found in the adjoining neighborhoods. I still come here to support the indie movie theatres in town. read more

I went and saw Green Book today. It was a fabulous movie. This theater is obviously old. Chairs are uncomfortable but they do recline little bit. The pier 1 was smelling really weird for some reason. I found it bit disgusting but it makes sense since it's old. The toilets were clean. The food overpriced like in every theater. read more

I have only ever seen Rocky Horror Picture Show here..... Based from those experiences.... well, I am very thankful that they put up with THAT craziness! It's not a super awesome place or any of that, but letting that show happen and letting all the people involved (watching and/or participating) have fun gives them points. Old but great little theater in West Seattle. If you need to sit on a lazy boy chair while watching a movie, I recommend waiting for it to come out on Netflix, as the chairs are comfortable, but not what I have found in newer theaters. Sound is great. The picture is comparable to any other theater in the city. Couple of other pluses: 1. They actually make their popcorn fresh (not dumping bags of old popcorn into a heated box) 2. If you come to see a movie, and line up before the movie like pretty much everybody does, The fact that there's 10 people in line will overwhelm the mean lady behind the counter. As a result she will refuse to pour beer because she doesn't have time. If you pause to decide maybe you might want something else to drink, or maybe some popcorn, she will again remind you that there are people in line and she is in a hurry, she will turn away from you and yell "next person in line". Then you have to give up, go get a cup of water from the 5 gallon thermos of water they keep at the end of the counter. I hope this is going to be a good movie. read more

I've been to this theater 2 times once before renovation and one time after. On April 29 I took my two kids to see avengers infinity war. The theater looked really nice and clean the service at the concession stand was pretty good. The food wasn't bad, and the theater was clean. Where I had problems was with the barrier In theater number 4 for which I had to climb over to get to my kids seats. My Biggest issue was the the movie interruption. On 4 different occasions during the presentation there were skips and pauses(obviously the presentation was digital). For the amount of money we spent on the movie this should not occur. I do support independent cinema but this should not occur during a film. There was no electricity issue and I would really like to know why this happened since it diminished the quality of our experience. read more

Looking for a place to watch a movie in West Seattle? Good luck. This place is so janky, slow, and poorly managed. We waited in line to just buy tickets for 30, yeah, 30 minutes. When we asked the counter attendant why they didn't open another register since they have a line around the building, the movie is about to start and they have more than one employee, they had no answer, just an apathetic shrug. They couldn't care less about your experience as a customer. Even though we planned ahead and bought tickets online they still had to have us wait. I've literally seen high school theatre productions with better ticket management. Also if you're hoping for good concessions, comfortable chairs, or decent sound, look somewhere else. This place hasn't seen an upgrade since ET came out. Looks like we're driving to Renton or downtown for movies from here on out. read more

I gave this 1 star because the renovation is nice and the seats are comfy. Problems: The older lady with blond hair is completely rude to everyone. Thought she might just hate men because she is always rude to my husband when we come in, but heard her being rude to another female customer. The older man with the long straggly hair who dresses inappropriately for any job is completely rude and I would never want him to serve me food. He turned the lights on during a Marvel movie and yelled, " There is no extra scene, so you don't need to stay". ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Way to ruin the movie. There were several of us who stayed and he just walked in front of us cleaning without caring one bit. Complaining does not help because I am pretty sure they are the owners and they could care less. Hate to say it - save your money and do not support this business. I would go downtown to Regal and AMC. Learn some customer service or get out of the industry. read more
