Really like this spot. I have never had to wait for a rack or machine and there isn't a weird gym culture. Cool management too

The owner's insistence on having trainers working with people (usually groups of people) throughout the day make it difficult at best to find a machine to use. The trainers routines often have people moving in and out of your area so don't be surprised if someone ends up running right by you for no particular reason. I actually had a couple of teenagers from their summer sports camp set up in the treadmill area and start jumping over me as I was doing sit ups. To the trainer's credit he didn't see them at first at stopped them when he saw what was going on. But still. I've never seen this at another gym. And hope I never see it again. The studio room where you can stretch, jump rope, etc. is always hosting a class. So if you want to just go somewhere nice and workout this isn't the place for you. You're better off signing up with a much larger facility like Anytime of 24 Hour where they cordon off their training or groups as opposed to Wild Basin where the training is obviously more important than the individual. If you like working out in group classes or working as part of a group with a trainer this place is better. But again, small quarters, so the training group will likely be bumping into others who aren't doing what you are. Also, the owner isn't really all that great. When I mentioned the issues I had he informed me that not only were they going to try and do even "more" group training, but that it was really my responsibility to tell the trainers they're stealing my machines when I go to get a drink of water or something. I finished my workout and canceled my membership that afternoon. It's very pricey as opposed to the larger gyms you could go to and doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary except for location (it's great for people who live in Steiner and don't want to drive to Lakeline). I joined a gym near my office and am much, much happier. Would advise others to take a look, but try and go during times you'd normally be there as part of your routine. That's the best way to tell what it's like there when you want to be there. If you go at that time and see a bunch of people being trained in the general exercise areas, know that they'll be the priority and not you the individual exerciser. Not fun. Also, the hours of operation aren't great. The facilities seem to be open for when it's most convenient for the managment and not the members. The two days people are looking for the most flexibility - Saturday and Sunday are the hardest. They close at 5 on Saturday and are only open noon to 5 on Sunday. For the price you pay you'd think they would be more amenable. LIke I said, pretty expensive. You can get much more gym and a more customer friendly experience at other, better priced gyms if you're willing to drive. Finally, the yoga instructor is a little creepy. They sort of let him roam around and he spent a lot of time trying to recruit me into his class. I tried politely to indicate I wasn't interested but he didn't seem to hear it. So every time I saw him I had to duck my head down and make sure we didn't have eye contact. My wife had different issues with him. She did like their Zumba dance class but it always started late as the yoga teacher spent a lot of time loitering with his students in the gym's exercise studio once his class was done, chatting while he should have gotten out and let the other class start. We mentioned it to the women who work the front desk (who are very nice btw) but nothing ever seemed to change. Again, very pro-trainer, pro-training in this facility.

But when I learned about Krav Maga…read moreand realized that I could have fun getting fit while learning how to kick people's butts, it was a match make in Heaven. I love Krav Maga because I learned real techniques that could be used in dicey situations. For instance, you spend a lot of time practicing how to get out of a variety of choke holds. I had an instance when I was working as a nurse in the ER where I was choked by a psychotic patient. I learned how to get out of a choke hold non-violently and also how to get out of it and really tear into someone if the situation was different:) Harry Shaw has to be one the nicest people I have ever met. He is really good at encouraging you to go further than you ever thought you could. If you are wondering what Krav maga is, here is a description off of their website: SELF DEFENSE Krav Maga is the official hand - to - hand combat system of the Israeli Defense Forces. It is also the preferred system for the U.S. Military and Law Enforcement personnel. Krav Maga is not a traditional marital art: *No Katas *No Rituals *No Nonsense Based on simple principles an instinctive movements, this reality-based system is designed to teach real self defense in the shortest possible time. Learn to defend against common chokes, grabs, and bearhugs, as well as weapons such as guns, knives, and sticks. Just as important, we teach people to function during the stress and shock of a sudden, violent encounter. Tested on the battle field and in the streets, Krav Maga's approach to self defense will make you safer and more secure.

The Lakeway location is the first franchise location in Central Texas, having opened in 2017 which is when I joined. The BBC founders started franchising their business in 2015 and I am greatly impressed that they continually improve upon their business model. They now have a mobile app which let's you sign up for camp times, track your attendance, or watch on demand videos of workouts. So why does BBC deserve 5 stars? *Strength and conditioning protocols VARY daily. Periodically, fun challenges throughout the year shake things up. Camps are 45 minutes long and 5-10 minutes at the beginning and end of the camps are spent on warming up or winding down with stretches. *FLOATING FLOOR! I am now in the latter half of my 50's and my joints greatly appreciate the shock absorbing qualities of the floating floor. *You'll find folks at ALL levels of fitness and ages who encourage each other with a smile and a high five. Although women make up the majority of camps, men are welcome at any camp. The workouts are not "frilly," you will be challenged. But, every movement can be modded down to accommodate your fitness level or if you have some specific limitation. *FREE CHILDCARE is included as well as FOCUS MEETINGS with certified trainers who will help you with your fitness goals, nutritionally and physically. *UNIVERSAL membership means you can visit the other 350+ (and growing) franchise locations around the US for FREE! You won't miss out on workouts when on vacation or visiting family and friends. *The Lakeway community, meaning members, trainers, Burn ambassadors/staff and business owners, is incredibly SUPPORTIVE. Several trainers as well as the current owners are former members who are invested in Burn and this community. Any cons? They are closed on Sundays but a day of rest is good if you are the type to compulsively work out everyday. Lots of attention from the trainer if there's light attendance at the camp. ;) Cost is about on par with other boutique type of gyms and much less than CrossFit. However, special promotions happen occasionally and built-in childcare and focus meetings really make it a better value over other gyms. I'm in better shape than my 20's, I'm stronger than I've ever been which is great for bones at my age, and I love being part of this great community. Last words, take advantage of their free 1-week trial. You won't regret it.
