I'm from NYC and I've been to a bunch of "fancy spas" in my life. I have to say the best facial…read moreI've ever had is from Skin Forensics with Katerina. I first went here when I was in college in Albany and now I still travel back upstate specifically for the purpose of seeing Katerina. Most spas focus on quick results and making someone look "glowing" when they walk out the door (instant gratification = happy customer and better tip) rather than long-term, lasting results. I recently had a $400+ oxygen facial from a spa in Vegas but the effects only lasted 4 days and then everything went back to normal. Please don't waste your money on fancy treatments at some of these other places that don't last long. With Katerina's facials, she applies a scientific approach and I've noticed a real and easily noticeable long-term improvement in the quality of my skin. My pores have decreased in size, I have reduced outbreaks. Plus, Katerina is able to give personalized advice regarding nutrition, what products to use, and how to use them. She understands that everyone's skin is different, so she does not apply a one-size-fits-all approach. In summary. at Skin Forensics, Katerina focuses on long term outcomes and I really think she's brilliant at what she does. So happy I found this skin care expert! HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend meeting with her. It has been a game changer for me.

I had a really disappointing experience at Skin Forensics…read more I came in during early pregnancy after having already experienced back to back miscarriages, and my skin was in terrible shape. I explained that I believed I was dealing with hormonal acne, but the owner repeatedly assured me I was wrong. Instead, she diagnosed me with dermatitis and insisted that I was likely having an allergic reaction to my laundry detergent. She recommended an oil-based cleanser that she had formulated herself, which I personally believe made my skin significantly worse, and I also spent money replacing all of my laundry detergent based on her advice. Throughout the appointment, I felt unheard and dismissed. After my skin continued to worsen, I later saw a dermatologist, who confirmed my suspicion that I was, in fact, experiencing hormonal acne. What concerned me most, however, was that despite knowing I was pregnant, she encouraged me to take cod liver oil supplements, saying the high vitamin A content would be beneficial. I later learned that excessive preformed vitamin A during pregnancy can increase the risk of birth defects, and I was incredibly relieved that I chose not to follow that recommendation. I understand that everyone's experience may be different, but based on mine, I would encourage anyone--especially if you're pregnant--to be cautious and to discuss any skincare or supplement recommendations with your OB or healthcare provider before taking them.

It was tough enough to find a new "botox girl" after relocating from San Francisco to Brooklyn but…read morethe real challenge was finding one after COVID-19 landed me working remotely in a farm house upstate. I was convinced I may have to live with my forehead as-is and began an impressive collection of hats. Enter Kelly. I actually came across their IG and almost wrote it off as too good to be true: experienced, multiple accolades AND up-to-date communication with clients through social channels (with a sense of humor to boot.) I had my first appointment with Kelly about a week ago and can confirm she and her team are as good as they seem. *Detailed consultation with personalized recommendations and thorough explanation of treatment plan: check *Demonstrated knowledge of injectables and facial muscle composition/patterns: check *COVID-19 precautions: check check check, inclusive of temperature reading prior to entering and contact tracing. HUGE plus. *Bedside manner: this isn't a must-have for me, I'm more of a 'ends justify the means' when it comes to injectables and prioritize competency over conversation but Kelly's personality was too good not to mention, plus a huge perk to anybody new to the scene who could use a little comfort! Highly personable, funny, professional and visibly skilled at her craft. *Results: We all know this is what you've read this far for. 10/10. I had even asked about a particular injection site and it's contribution to my desired results and learned something new. I achieved some of my favorite results with less units than with my previous provider. TL;DR So yeah - this is the spot.

PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. UNLAWFULLY OPERATED…read more The practice is run by a Physician Assistant (PA), but New York State law clearly states that PAs must work under the supervision of a licensed physician. When I asked to speak with their Medical Director, I was told they didn't have one. (Article 131-B of the New York Education Law governs the practice of physician assistants in the state.) The injector GiGi performed unauthorized treatments, including injecting Botox into my gummy lines--something I never requested or approved. When I returned to address the poor results, the PA had to step in to sternly direct the injector to only use half an injection to fix the Spock brow I had been left with. Despite these efforts, the results were far from satisfactory. My appearance resembled what can only be described as a "serial killer" smile. (See below pictures) They also convinced me to choose a "lip flip" instead of lip fillers, claiming it would help "quiet my facial muscles" before injections. It's unclear whether the resulting smile was caused by the lip flip or the unauthorized gummy line injections, but the outcome has been devastating. Even three months later, my smile is still not back to normal, despite being told that the effects would wear off quickly. The dismissive attitude that mistakes don't matter because "Botox wears off" is unacceptable. If a procedure's effects last for months, the least they can do is get it right the first time. Another alarming issue is their lack of transparency. While consent and waiver forms are uploaded to the online portal, they fail to include any documentation of the injection sites. This omission feels deliberate, and it makes me question what they might be trying to hide. On a personal level, this experience ruined what should have been a joyful time. I had just returned from a 10-month military deployment and was looking forward to reuniting with my loved ones. I wanted to look refreshed and less stressed, but instead, I ended up feeling self-conscious and unattractive. I even asked my boyfriend to delay proposing because I didn't want to look this way in engagement photos. It's heartbreaking that such a special moment had to be put on hold because of their carelessness. The staff assured me that what happened to me was rare and that the effects would subside quickly. However, after extensive research, I found only one similar case online, which confirms that my experience is far from normal.
