I bought a Groupon for two massages and infrared sauna treatments, and just experienced my first massage yesterday evening with massage therapist, Kia. I am a bicyclist with plantar fasciitis and very tight calves that make walking painful. I have been through physical therapy and orthotics, and still have discomfort every day. Not today though! I have never felt so much long-lasting relief with any of the painful massages I have been subjected to as I have with this massage. The woman has a gift: She can provide very firm massage or more gentle pressure, if you prefer. She knows reflexology. She asks your preferences and checks back often. Go there, ask for Kia. So, so happy I found her and can't wait for my next massage. The infrared sauna was pretty nice: You sit in a fancy, albeit slightly claustrophobic sauna box that heats you up from the inside to make you sweat and probably release toxins. While it is not my favorite thing to be hot and sweaty in a box for a half an hour, it really helped to sweat out the toxins released during massage. Kia says it is possible to burn up to 700 calories with this treatment, but said not to quote her. :) Those of you Washington old-timers may think this is an inconvenient or undesirable area to go to, but it is very middle-class looking these days. It's a little weird from the outside, but it is very nice inside. They are a little heavy on the spa fragrance, so if you have allergies, beware. Body Bliss was an amazing experiencing! First, let me start off by saying the owner is amazing! He requested two of his massage therapists to come in on a Sunday (they are closed on Sundays) in order to make sure I was seen since I was traveling from New York for a friend's birthday. We had an amazing experience! The massages were great and the therapists had the perfect pressure. They were both professional and very sweet. The inside of the building was very relaxing and calming. They had perfect calming music playing with an electric fireplace and candles lit to truly transform you into a relaxed state. I really enjoyed my experience and I plan to return. The only suggestion I have is to update the outside of the building so that it can reflect the classy, upscale ambiance inside the building. read more

I finally took advantage of the buy-with-me deal a few months ago for a 1-hour in-home massage. When I scheduled the appointment. I was not sure what to expect (I couldn't find much about it online), but the service really exceeded my expectations. I had my massage with the owner, Reggie, and he did an excellent job. He was very professional, brought all of his own equipment/materials, and made me forget that I was still in my own apartment (I swear at one point I was transported into a spa!) Not only was he great at giving the massage, I really appreciate that he is a small business owner working very hard to get his business off the ground. He clearly really enjoys what he is doing, and is genuinely committed to improving people's quality of life through massage. I will say, that if I could just deduct half a star, I would. However, I am giving it five-stars as the actual massage was fantastic. My only point for improvement is that scheduling the massage was a bit hectic-- lots of phone tag and Body Bliss was not very quick to respond on e-mail. However, once the massage was booked, everything went according to plan, and Reggie called the day before to confirm. Apparently there is a newly opened location in NE, and I imagine this issue will be resolved once there is someone responsible for working the front desk. My husband bought me a 1 hour massage and hot stone Groupon for this place. I hoped I'd have a great experience here because it's very close to my house and I get at least 2 massages a month. I scheduled an appointment and showed up on time. I was asked to sit in a room to wait for the masseuse. 5, 10, 20 minutes go by and a couple of employees come in and out of the waiting room. Finally, a woman comes to get me, she doesn't say anything other than to show me where the room is and to lie on the table. She doesn't return for another 10 or so minutes and I'm ready to walk out. When she does return, she gives me the worst massage I've ever had in my life. She uses barely any oil and her hands were rubbing and pulling at my skin. It was horrible and I was thankful that she only gave me 20 or so minutes of lousy massage. No hot stones were ever used. I couldn't wait to get out of there and I will never go back. My boyfriend and I had a groupon for a couple's massage and finally redeemed it! First off, the only reason this place isn't getting a 5 star is because I think the outside of the building really throws someone off. When I saw the outside I was a bit skeptical. It doesnt look very professional and even rundown. It could use a renovation! However as a person who gives everyone a chance, I should have believed the whole "don't judge a book by its cover." You walk in and immediately are soothed and welcomed. I wish I had gotten everyone's name so I could do a personal shout out to each one of them. The woman at the front desk welcomed us with a smile and kept a small gentle voice. It was very professional. We had to wait a few minutes after our schedule but we are very laid back so this wasn't an issue at all. The inside is very modernized with nicely painted walls, beautifully decorated and an electric fireplace and TV. Inside the rooms was calm soothing music, lowly dimmed lights and a fireplace as well. Very serene. Our two therapists were sweethearts. They adhered to our every request. We asked for hard pressure and they delivered! Mine was Athena (apologies for any misspelling). She was wonderful. She made me feel relaxed and I knew I could trust in her. Unfortunately I moved to South Carolina or else I'd see her all the time but I will definitely be back when I'm in town! And I just remembered she had asked about my tattoo and I meant to tell her. So for the chance that she may read this it says, "would you like to dance with me" in French! :) Thanks ladies! I had a really pleasant experience at Body Bliss! Perhaps it was because we went on a Thursday evening, around 7pm, & were the only clients being serviced. I brought a Groupon deal for a couple's one hour Swedish Body massage with 30 minute access to the sauna. Although we didn't utilize the sauna, the message itself was really nice! We were attended to right away & the massage room was very quaint, clean, & relaxing. The masseuses were very knowledgable in their skill set, wish I remembered their names! They did a very good job in regards to using different techniques & overall customer service. They asked multiple times about the pressure they were applying to make sure we were enjoying our massages. Although mines was more firm that I wanted at times, I think it did my body really good! I felt like brand new afterwards. I literally visit a new spa/masseuse monthly, so my review is honest & true. Can't speak for everyone's experience in coming here, but I thoroughly enjoyed it & love supporting black owned businesses. The ambiance in the room was super relaxing and I found myself dosing off a few times while waiting on my massage therapist. I was lucky enough to get my massage from the owner, Reggie. This rating is for the overall experience, not just the massage. Bought the Groupon for 60 min massage and 30 min sauna. Called a few times and no one answered the phone -- got their voicemail. When I finally got through the person who answered sounded like she had a bad attitude in her voice tone. They were booked for that weekend so called a week later to schedule an appointment. Called on a Fri, the receptionist was much more pleasant over the phone this time. She didn't even ask me whether I preferred a male or female (basic question). Scheduled it for a Mon. Came 15 min early. Turns out the lady who scheduled my appointment overbooked that time slot. So the owner offered to do it himself (although I preferred a female). He escorted me to the room and when he returned he opens the door without even knocking. Every place I have gone for a massage they always knock just in case you are not positioned or ready. He put the Beats headphones on me to hear the spa sound music even though he already had some playing in the room on another device. He didn't even ask me if I was ok with putting the headphones on (who knows if they even wipe it down/clean it between customers). The thing is the Beats headphone was playing off of a phone while was the other device in the room was playing a different playlist. So every time there was a transition to the next song, I could hear the other music in the background (not good). I don't think he even reviewed my sign in form which asks for areas you would like worked on cause he didn't give those areas I listed extra attention. When I walked to the front, he commented that he would give me a deal for my next session. I said that I am not even done with this session because the Groupon includes a massage. He said he didn't realize that. He walks me over to the back where the sauna is and showed me that the door to the sauna was broken, he said since Sat. So if that was case why didn't the front person (who did my intake) even say anything -- he knew I had a Groupon. So I wasn't even offered anything for this sauna service not being available. Instead I asked if I could come back when it was fixed -- he said yes -- but why did I have to ask...I mean this is the OWNER I'm talking to and he should have offered something for this inconvenience and service that I paid for already. Ambience: 2 STARS. The reception area was way too dark with the lighting, furniture, and paint. I did not feel like a light airy spa. Also the massage room was way too humid. I couldn't breathe properly and it felt too hot. Customer Service: 2 STARS. They definitely need to work on their customer service experience. The worst overall spa experience. Maybe the customers they serve are not accustomed to a higher quality experience because that is the only way I can even see why people are giving them high ratings. Never again, I thought that my husband and I would give it a shot because it was such a good deal. My therapist was running late. She was inexperienced masseuse; however she didn't talk too much and she held the same pressure the entire time. During the silence I could clearly hear a child in the hallway, asking for their mother. During the sauna my husband and I started talking about the experience. He stated that his masseuse didn't know what she was doing one bit. She asked during the massage if he wanted his feet rubbed. His reply was "yes." If the young lady did not like to rub feet- she should not have asked. (He don't have the best looking feet but they are not anywhere near as worst as I've seen) He said it felt like she just pulled his toes and plucked the soles of his feet. When it was time for us to leave- they were crowded at the door waiting for a tip, with the little girl on my masseuses' hip. read more

I've been coming to this place for a few years now, and it started off pretty good. Unfortunately, the quality has really gone down! I recently got a massage by Tia and it was awful! Not only did she come and hour and a half late she only gave me 30 minutes when I paid for one hour. And when I talked to the owner about it, he confronted her and she said do you want me to give you 15 more minutes? Knowing that she had not given me my full hour in the first place! Perfectly professional and punctual. Two things that are very important to me. The Masseuse asked me about my aches and pains and then she did a great job of massaging my back and legs. I bought a groupon deal before reading all the reviews, and now that I've had the massage and have read the reviews I almost feel like I've gone to the wrong place. I've had no issues scheduling with them (did not remember how it went, but did not remember it being difficult). I actually rescheduled, and no issue with that either. I was a bit late to the massage. Front desk lady was decently nice. My therapist was male - and they did not tell me or ask me about it - but I'm personally okay with having male therapists. There was no intake form - or any kind of intake though, he did not introduce himself, or ask if I have any areas I want to focus on or avoid. That is why this is getting 4 Stars. Not sure if it's just because I'm already late though. However, the massage itself is great. It is one of the best I've had in DC. Pressure was good, the therapist, despite not having asked me, focused on all the areas I want focus on. Nothing inappropriate at all. The room was nice and clean too. My only complaint is that the massage is only 50 mins, not a full hour. However, I am very disappointed with their unwillingness to honor an appointment. After booking the massage for the next day, I mentioned that I would use a Groupon. I was then told that if I was using Groupon, they couldn't see me for 3 weeks, even though there were 3 available slots on the day I had initially booked my massage. When I explained that my Groupon would be expiring later this week, I was told that I would have to pay and additional $30 for an expired Groupon, despite trying to use it in good faith prior to the expiration date. Sadly, they have now lost a customer due to their lack of customer service and integrity and I have also filed a complaint with Groupon. read more

My husband and I were obscenely late for our appointment (1 hour). I could tell immediately upon entering that we had situated them between a rock and a hard place, with respect to their next clients. I told my husband "Let's just go back to the hotel". It was entirely our fault and I couldn't, with a clear conscience, hinder the experience of the next clients while simultaneously stressing the staff. Teresa giggled sweetly and asked if she could explain her plan which would accommodate everyone. Her calm demeanor and confident plan soothed our hesitations and the spa experience immediately ensued. I am still stunned at how the staff as a whole cut zero corners with our treatment. Our couples massage was second to none. The therapists took their time and focused on their efforts on our problem areas while still making sure to relax our entire bodies. The handwork was simply stellar. This place was a treasure. We left rejuvenated and completely relaxed. We will make it a point to include this place in our future DC endeavors. Went to Body Bliss with a Living Social deal. When I pulled up, I'll admit I thought this place was a little sketchy when I pulled up because there wasn't a lot on the outside. It was quite dark, signage wasn't great so I was not sure what to expect. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the space was really large and well decorated. I was greeted by a very kind receptionist who took care of me and I was with my masseuse in less than 10 minutes from checking in. The massage room was very quaint, dimly lit, soft music. My masseuse, Courtnei, was great! She checked in to make sure the pressure was right and made sure she targeted my need areas. All and all, I really enjoyed the experience and would go back without the Living Social deal. read more

I've never written a yelp review, but I had such a bad experience at this business that I feel I should warn others. If you are driving - be prepared to street park. My massage began late, which happens, but it was then interrupted twice - once by someone banging on the front door of the spa, which had been locked. The woman providing my massage had to leave our session and go open it and speak to another customer trying to book a massage. Later, while I was half-naked on the massage table, someone walked into the room, thinking it was a bathroom. The massage itself was probably the strangest I've ever had. I am not a massage therapist and I don't like to say harsh things about people who give good effort at their work, but I would not recommend this service to anyone. If you are looking for relaxation in a massage, this is probably not the place to find it. Also, be aware there is a second yelp business with much higher ratings (but many fewer reviews) listed as Body Bliss Suites. It is the same place as the one I'm describing. read more

Terrible customer service. My boyfriend bought a groupon for a couples massage. We were five minutes late and as soon as we walked in, they were very rude when they said "We will have to cut the five minutes from your massage time." She had the worse attitude ever. Massage was supposed to be for 60 minutes, she cut off way more than 5 minutes. Our massage was 35 minutes max. During the most 35 aggressive minutes of my day, my masseuse was on her cell phone throughout. She was very rough when I told her my comfort level would be medium. Neither of them were comforting of welcoming at all. We paid $120 for a 35 minutes massage and rude customer service. Not worth the money at all. I have written one review in my membership to yelp, which I belive has been at least 6 years. This experience at this venue was more then appalling. I make an appointment with a young lady and was told to call back with a living social voucher number. I call back and another lady tells me there are no appointments for the time I made an appointment for. I was confused and assumed there had been a miscommunication. I then get a phone call back letting me know that there was another therapist coming in the day of my appointment. Terrible customer service and communication between staff. I had a massage by the owner. I didn't know they had male therapists and would have appreciated that bit of knowledge prior to. I thought he led me back to introduce the other therapist, but it was him. I did dress down as I usually did. I told him my focus was my lower back and his focus was my a$$ the whole time. He went incredibly close to my vagina during my leg massage and I was so tense I couldn't believe that he wouldn't be more cognizant of this technique. The ladies that I have received massages from were great and never made me feel like they were "a bit too close" or uncomfortable. At one point for about 30 minutes my behind was completely uncovered. I tried to shift to get the sheet back on. I've been getting massages my entire adult life and covering the body has always been a priority to make the client comfortable. Not here. I thought that maybe I was over thinking it until he asked that the next time I come that I request him with his cell phone number written on his business card. I really wanted to support a black owned business whole heartedly, but despite the rocky customer service and water stained ceilings, I just cant. My sister and I won't be back. I'm highly disappointed and I feel 100% violated. There has been more than one review about this inappropriate massage "technique" from this owner. Don't go nor waste your money. It was a beautiful space unbeknownst to me from the outside. Another plus, it was walking distance from my home. They took me on time after I filled out the forms. The big mirror over the fireplace seemed like a two way mirror and was oddly angled but too high to see yourself. I kept wondering if someone could see me undressing. My masseuse I assumed read what kind of massage I wanted and areas I needed more pressure on, but didn't really address my lower back issues. She did give a good overall massage though. My only complaint was she talked too much. How do you tell your masseuse to shut up? I purchased a Groupon for a 60 minute massage at Body Bliss and am so glad I did! The spa was a little out of the way but very much worth it. When I arrived filled out a form detailing my needs and issues as well as the amount of pressure I liked, etc. Reggie paid close attention to my needs and gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. He worked out all my tension - he has a way of finding knots I didn't even know that I had. After he worked on one part of my body he would wrap it in warm towels to soothe me even further. Heaven! The spa itself is very calming on the inside - dark colors and soothing music, with nice little nibbles if you're hungry. My husband bought me a Groupon for couples' massage with infrared sauna for Valentine's Day, and we used it a couple months afterwards. It was a little hard to get in touch with Reggie, but we were able to schedule at a convenient time. It was confusing when we first got there, as the front door was locked and no one answered the door. They seem to need a front desk staff person. I had Devon as my therapist, and my husband's was Raven. We both explained that we liked firm massages, and they dug right in. My back felt the best that it had in a long time thanks to Devon's personalized touch! My husband equally raved about his massage. The sauna afterwards was nice. We were provided with robes to walk down the hallway. I had never done a sauna after a massage, but I'll have to do it again in the future. I think it helped reduce my soreness the next day. It was hard for my spouse and I to find a babysitter for all three children so I was really disappointed. Don't be fooled by the location or subtle exterior of the venue: the interiors are clean, inviting, and incredibly relaxing. Our massage therapists were INCREDIBLE. Lee and Ciara took excellent care of us with superb sports reflexology massages and we left feeling like melted butter. We will definitely be coming back. Our only advice is that if you are looking to get a hot stone massage, let them know ahead of time, so they can heat up their stones. So, an update on the whole situation. Soon after I wrote the above review, I started getting calls and texts (lots of texts) from Reggie, who owns the place. He seemed bothered that I didn't have a good experience, and even more bothered that I left a review. He went back and forth - offered me a free massage with another one of his therapists to make up for my experience, but then texted me very upset about "defamation of character." Eventually, I just sort of said "sure, let's do another massage and see how it goes." The day before the comp massage Reggie offered, he texted me tell me that he's canceling the massage unless I take my review down. It was pretty clear he cared more about the review than about my experience (which makes sense for his business, I guess, but maybe not the best way to deal with customer service). I would have backed out at that point, but had already canceled my usual monthly and was really looking forward to a massage, so I agreed to update my review (which I was planning to anyway). Here it is: Gabriela, the massage therapist Reggie sent, was very good. She was on time, brought her own materials (like a blanket in case I got cold), was nice and professional, and had really good pressure (which I like). She was careful to make sure the pressure was comfortable for me, and texted me the next day to see how I was feeling. The only things I would suggest would be to bring some music so it's more relaxing/not total silence, and to have a different item to cover the eyes when the person is face-up on the table (she was using a folded-up pillowcase, which kept slipping). But those are not a big deal and I would totally recommend her, especially if you like deep tissue (which is my favorite type of massage). read more

I got the Groupon for the couple's massage and sauna. They seem to have sold a lot of them because it was tough to find a time at first. Whenever I left a message, my call was returned within 24 hours though. When I did go, I was very pleased. The place looks nice on the inside and has dim lights, candles, and soft music to help you relax. The staff are all very professional and courteous, and I felt very comfortable. The massage started about 20 minutes late, but it was good. I would have preferred more kneading than open palm rubbing, but it was partially my fault for not telling her what I wanted--they don't read minds, and everybody has different preferences. I purchased a massage thinking I would get a great massage. Reggie was pleasant upon welcoming me to establishment. I was a little early so I watched one woman get her feet detox and as the clients before me left; they received complimentary waters. I thought that's a good sign. I finished my paper work indicating where in needed more attention. I went in the room ten minutes after my appointment time, disrobed and proceeded to get one of the worst massages I have EVER had in my life. I get massages anywhere from once a week to every other week. It's apart of my budget. I was lathered down with oil, globs of it all over and the woman just rubbed it on the surface. She did not massage me or address the areas that needed special attention. Even Swedish massages consist of some pressure. The massage end at 49 minutes past the hour. My oily rub down was thirty-five minutes total. I didn't receive water after like the client before me. I intended to give a generous tip as usual however I had to down size the tip as my one hour was down sized to 35 mins. Reggie on the other hand was still massaging the woman who came in before me.
