Deli-Egg Bagel

You can't visit UVA without a stop at Bodo's. I got their deli egg on an everything bagel that consists of deli meats mixed with egg and cheese and smeared with your choice of cream cheese. The bagel itself was soft but had a nice chew to it. While I thought the bagel was very good, the line was out the door and very busy. I don't think the bagels are quite worth the wait but if you pop by and see no line, you have to go in!

I love bodos so much that if I'm ever in or passing Charlottesville I try to stop by. Their everything bagel is a must and I love getting either a simple egg and cheese bagel for breakfast or either pastrami or roast beef for lunch. Perfect for breakfast/lunch and to go for road trips!

While passing through Charlottesville I wanted something unique to the area and found Bodo's Bagels one of the few NY style bagel shops. The prices were super affordable and the everything bagel was mouthwatering. Great location for an affordable grab and go or dine in meal.

I came here Saturday morning and there was a line. It goes by fast though. Pretty crowded but there was plenty of open seating. The jalapeño cream cheese was really good. Not spicy at all. They forgot my egg in my bagel but I'd still give it 5/5. It tasted fresh, hot, creamy. It was delicious!

The lines may be long but it goes pretty fast and is worth it. As an alumna I had to stop in to eat at the infamous Bodo's. I got a lunch sandwich and a breakfast (honey pecan cream cheese on plain) bagel for the next day. Both sandwiches were absolutely delicious. Love that the prices are still affordable and the staff was friendly as usual. Love Bodo's and I definitely recommend trying it if you haven't before.

Bodo's is a big deal for Charlottesville. This location is off campus a few miles. This was my first ever visit to the famous locals bagel shop. Their iconic location is on the UVA campus. Surface parking is nearby, but they can get slammed! The employees park in the drive-thru lane no longer in operation. The lot was clear of debris. The atmosphere inside was electric! My visit was on a UVA move-in Saturday. It was busy, but not packed at around 330 in the afternoon. It took little time to walk up and order. Menu boards make it easy, but if you're new I recommend looking at their online menu first. Service was super friendly by the young male staff. Some questions were asked on suggestions and customization. Payment is at the counter and they accept all major credit cards. There was no option to tip. Orders are called out and my pastrami on everything came out within 5 minutes. My wife got a chicken salad and daughter egg & bacon. I absolutely loved my pastrami on swiss. The everything bagel was not toasted and was soft with a nice chew. My daughter like the egg & cheese, but bacon lower quality. My wife thought the chicken salad was quality, but they forgot the lettuce. Ultimately they both liked their sandwiches. While enjoying our meal staff was wiping off tables and sweeping underneath tables. Trash is deposited by customers and it was within its boundaries. Also the restrooms were clean. A super operation all around. Great bagels and a strong value. They missed the mark a bit, but I will 100% return and if never been it's a must! 4.5 rounding down.

WOW. Great great spot - no frills, no trendy touches, just very good bagels and coffee. We got two breakfast sandwiches on everything bagels (the bagels were chewy and so flavorful, and the eggs were particularly good), plus cinnamon raisin bagel with plain cream cheese (melty and gooey and perfect), and coffees. We brought home a few bagels as well (they put a small tub of cream cheese in the bag, which I didn't even ask for but was thrilled about!). The staff are efficient and nice, and the spot just feels so classic - I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in Cville!

if you even drive through Charlottesville, STOP HERE. Cheap, fresh bagels made daily & even fresh cream cheese. Multiple options for any water with any diet. Delicious veggie burger & sides for your bagel sandwich

Bodo's.... Did you really just give me a "tofu sandwich" with a slab of uncooked, unmarinaded tofu!? As a vegetarian, I loved you, but this is my second attempt to eat here as a vegan and it's been disgusting each time. Please, marinade or season your tofu! Additionally, your avocados have no flavor and have a slimy texture as if they were frozen. Additionally, 70% of the world is lactose intolerant and you don't have a dairy free, vegan cream cheese alternative. I'm truly disappointed in my recent dining experiences here. This was a one star bumped up solely for the bagel and how fast the food came out.

Ask the Community - Bodo's Bagels

A fellow worshiper at Synagogue, which for those who don't know is a Jewish place of worship, said it best by simply exclaiming, "ach, cake!," when asked about Bodos. To which I would add only: cake, yes, but without flavor. I have been told that their sandwiches are better and that their bagels are actually meant for those (the last refuge of a coward bagel maker, but I digress), so I ordered a sandwich. I ended up with a roast beef and horseradish bagel, but in some perverse nod to tradition, my bagel came with meat and a large dollop of white chrain (raw horseradish). That was all. The herb of affliction, rather than the nice horseradish sauce that I expected. I'd rather go to Arby's. I respect all restauranteurs. Feeding people is difficult ands often thankless work. So, I don't often leave negative reviews. However, I can no longer remain silent while people claim Bodos is good.

This restaurant is clearly formerly a small home, given how it has so many small rooms set up like bedrooms, hallways, narrow stairs, and living rooms with six-pane windows. Plenty of mason jars and small flowers spread on each table. The food exceeded my expectations. The coffee and espresso were made by a skilled barista who steams great milk and can tell apart a cortado, latte, and flat white. My sweet potato hash was very tender, salted to perfection, and matched with a good amount of turkey sausage they managed to present piping hot but not dried out. My companion's smoked salmon and poached egg easily split under a fork and coated the plate in delightful yolk. Sensibly prepared. Nothing dry or cold. I found the entrance quite difficult to locate when coming from the Oakhurst Inn, probably a consequence of how the property is laid out with so many cabins and houses on the grounds. If you can manage the maze of stairs and paths, you'll find a charming cafe across from a new housing development. Definitely come here if you want good espresso or an appetizing breakfast.

One that I want to highlight and isn't on Yelp by itself unfortunately is Sweet Jane's Kitchen Maryland Style Crab Cakes. They don't have a brick and mortar but she is always there every Saturday the Market is open from 9am-1pm. Since moving from FL I have never had a single good crab cake in all of VA...UNTIL I tried Jane's crab cakes. They are all of what a good crab cake has to offer: A large thick patty mostly consisting of super fresh crab and garnished with delicious spices and only small amount of filler. Their homemade sauce is perfectly zesty and pairs well with the crab cake and bun; I always get extra. To top it off the owner is always very kind and runs it with her family. Other than this one there is a flower shop that carries my favorite celosia flowers and my favorite caromont farm goat cheese. They have a wonderful variety of other unique shops and delicious food vendors to try. I highly recommend Jane's crabcakes and the Charlottesville City Market in general, so much that I am willing to travel almost 2 hours to get there. Honestly the best green market I've been to in VA.
