After a long drive through yosemite and checking in to our Motel we were in desperate need of a beer. There aren't too many choices in Lee Vining so we settled on Bodie Mike's. Tourist trap alert! Tips included for a party of three? Really? I'm a pretty good tipper - my standard is 20% of the pre-tax bill if the waitress simply does her job. More if she is especially helpful or attentive. So in most cases when I see a "tips included" policy on the menu, I think to myself "your loss," and move on. But this place really ticked me off not because they added tips for bad food and bad service, but because such policy was not stated on their menu. I'm curious if they add tips to everybody's checks? If so, they are swindlers for not stating the tipping policy on the menu. If, on the other hand, we were the only ones for whom the tips were included, they are racists. Bodie Mikes is one of a very few restaurants in lee vining, in a very touristy Yosemite and near the picturesque mono lake, and they take full advantage of tourists! $25 for a rack of ribs that was boiled, drenched in a smoke-flavored super-sweet sauce, and slammed in the grill for a few minutes??? Skip this place, and go to the one next to the gas station - they have far better service and food, and won't try to swindle you. read more

There aren't many dining options in this little town and this is a good staple with good solid food and a nice soup and salad bar. Stick to beer or wine and don't venture too far into the mixed drinks... keep it simple because the wait staff mixes the drinks. The BBQ chicken was good and hearty. We ended up eating here after going to Mono Lake. We got to ML really late (about 5PM) and we were about to head back into Yosemite to get dinner, but it was already 7PM by the time we passed by this place. There is no parking near the place, but we found parking adjacent to the business right next to Bodie's on the left. We came here two weeks ago, so I don't really remember what I got, but it was really good with fries and a small mac salad. We ate on the deck, and you get a spectacular view of the opposite side of a sunset on over Mono Lake. That means no blaring sun in your eyes, but a beautiful sky and lake to look over while enjoying your food. I will definitely come back if I ever drive out to those parts again. read more

The five stars here are very relative, but under the circumstances, I believe they are warranted. Please, allow me to explain. I was staying in Lee Vining for a night as part of an Eastern Sierras/Yosemite hiking vacation. I'm a very fit person, was planning on hiking 10-20 miles a day, and eat a healthy vegetarian diet. I craved a healthy dinner, and given the fact that the handful of restaurants in Lee Vining are either diner food or BBQ, I thought I'd be screwed. But on a whim, I decided to check out Bodie's menu. What a pleasant surprise! For a mere $10, they have an all-you-can-eat salad bar with soup and hot rolls. The one soup wasn't vegetarian (hamburger something), so I didn't get to have any, but the salad bar was surprisingly great! Granted, it wasn't up to my admittedly high San Francisco standards (the only lettuce was iceberg, the dressings were basically ranch/French/Italian), but there was a sufficiently decent selection of veggies that I left feeling satisfied and fueled up for another day of hiking. Just coming back from a trip to the Bodie ghost town, hungry and ready to eat. We wanted a table outside because it was such a beautiful day, but there were too many flies so we asked for a table inside. That didn't help much, there were still plenty of flies. I wasn't impressed with the menu and decided to play it safe and order a few burgers and be on our way. The service was good, but the food wasn't. Burgers were mediocre and the steak fries were just not good. On a positive note, the tater tots that came with the kids meals were delicious. The perfect fuel up before a big hike in Yosemite or the Mammoth Area!! We arrived around 4pm for a super early dinner in preparation for a couple of ghost tours at Bodie State Park. It was a gorgeous and amazing summer day in the mountains and so the place was still super busy with (mainly tourists) enjoying the afternoon sunshine and a beer or two. Started with the fried jalapeños which were the perfect balance of crispy spicy goodness - fresh out of the frier and straight into the (small) serving of ranch dressing... still they went down a treat with the pint of Mammoth Brewery Amber Ale... Entrees consisted of a Bodie Mikes BBQ Hamburger for him and a Trip-Tip Sandwich for me.... the trip-tip was mouthwatering deliciousness. It actually kinda reminded me of really good, insanely tender brisket... and with a side of steak fries and coleslaw, half of my sandwich ended up in the to go box... if your close by give it a try... its pretty delish and on a summers day the views and the breeze can't be beat!!! read more

This place always grabs my eye as we travel north through California, You do not have many choices in this area. We were looking to eat with a drink. Outside was hot and full, inside was cool and empty. This a great little restaurant in Lee Vining ! We had the pulled pork sandwich and the sausage sandwich. I am a pulled pork fan and was very pleased ! Both sandwiches were delicious. Also the steak fries were yummy . Service was friendly. Atmosphere was awesome. We sat in the bar and we had it all to ourselves . I actually enjoyed the bbq 1/2 chicken so much on my first night in Lee Vining that i talked my parents into eating BBQ again the second night. The dinners came with salad bar and soup which is nice, and what tasted like hot fresh baked bread that you serve yourself out of a warming toaster thingy. The service was pretty friendly and everything was paced properly. Between the ribs, chicken and salmon i am not sure which is better but they were all delicious! The bbq sauce is on the sweeter side which i like and the ribs fell off the bone. Also the cole slaw was insanely good. The only reason i am subtracting a star is because the corn that comes with the dinners and the salad at the salad bar could be better. But, then again, who goes to a bbq joint for corn and salad?!?! read more

Damn good food. I started out the morning early -- the pass across Yosemite had been open for a week and I was meaning to explore it. Five or six hours later (and more stopping than riding) I landed in Lee Vining looking for some food. There really weren't many options and I was happy that Bodie's ended up kicking ass. First off - the outdoor patio: relaxing. I got a table in the corner where I could keep an eye on the bike and rested my sore ass in the seat. I ordered a steak sandwich and fries -- a slice of carrot cake for desert. All of it was filling and welcome after a long journey. The service was splendid with pleasant waitresses. A very nice setting looking towards Mono Lake. Lee Vining is a Main Street town with a nice local feel. You can still get an espresso as their are enough tourists coming over the hills from the bay area to support this indulgence. I had a decent meal at Mike's on my way through town. My family of seven came here for dinner after checking into our hotel. It was a busy Saturday night, so we expected there would be a wait. They couldn't seat us together so we separated into two different groups (which we were alright with). The service was a little bit on the slow side, but as I stated before, it was a busy Saturday night. Our server was a charming woman who was very nice and welcoming. She took our drink and food orders and scurried off. I added a salad bar so I went to fill up there. The salad was a bit disappointing, there were very little salad toppings to choose from. The lettuce was a little bit on the wilted side too. The soup and the all you can eat fresh baked bread made up for the salad, they were delicious. By the time I got back to my table my drink was waiting for me. It didn't take too long to receive our food. We all enjoyed it immensely. I had the prime rib sandwich with a side of fries. The food did look like it was slapped together in a hurry, my sandwich was a bit lopsided, but none the less it was delicious. Nothing was dry or overcooked and very flavorful. The only thing that seemed to bug me was that my husband never received his lemonade and so just drank the water he was given earlier. It also took a little while to receive our check, but they were very good at making sure that our orders were on separate bills. I would definitely come back for dinner whenever in the area. Even if the service was a bit slow, the food definitely made up for it. If you're in a hurry, avoid this place. If you want to relax and talk with some nice people, come here! Life is too short to not enjoy some good food with some good people. read more

I'm glad I decided to stop here for dinner during my recent drive along Highway 395 going to Mammoth Lakes. I very much enjoy sitting on their outdoor patio. Depending on your orientation, you might even catch a glimpse of the nearby Mono Lake. The winner here is the large self-serve salad and soup bar. The staff are friendly and helpful, really liked them and it's a shame they're stuck with such a poor quality of product. Hopped down here from Tuolumne Meadows since we wanted something other than the TM Grill or TM Lodge restaurant. What a mistake. I had the Pulled Pork Sandwich sans slaw and the meat had the consistency of soft cheeze. The BBQ sauce is bland and boring. The steak fries weren't bad, but a bit overcooked, 30 seconds less in the fryer and they'd have probably been perfect. My wife ordered the Hot Dog which came with bun and dog, nothing else. She really liked the salad though, all two trips to the bar were completely polished off. I get that it's a BBQ place and you don't dress things up, but a little forewarning would help on the dog. I can not understand how this place had solid ratings. I'm guessing it's due to people being in the back country and thinking a dirty teenagers flip-flop would taste better than another round of Mountain House. After eating at the other restaurants in Lee Vining, I must change my rating and review: I am simply flabbergasted at how restaurants don't do competitive analysis. This one is one that obviously doesn't. They must think that if we eat it, we must like it. Well, have you eaten down the road at the gas station restaurant? No comparison. The fries at Mikes are from frozen and gross. The other is crispy and fresh. Fresh produce at the other but here? Not hardly any. As someone with a business degree and background in business I find it strangely odd that this restaurant won't change. I would not eat here ever now that I know my choices. No vegetarian but another cafe has it a block away! Comparative analysis means that once a month, you eat at the other restaurants and compare food and prices. Mandatory tip. I'm American as many of u are. I didn't ask but I beleive the mandatory tip is due to the many visitors of other countries where there is no tip. I imagine that they don't want to be stiffed unintentionally. Had a chicken BNA sandwich w jalapeño rigs. Freshly cooked. Jalepenos were made there and I could tell. Greasy American but good. Chicken sandwich: roll was fresh and soft and good. Chicken was previously frozen, a little tough, but not too salty. The chicken was real not in a solution. Gotta be real careful on cook temps and not to cook too much especially when frozen. I would eat here again but it's not healthy food. read more

What killed it for me is that they have a ashtray setup up on the sidewalk right next to the outdoor patio/dining area.
