Nice selection of quaint, but expensive shoes. Purchased a pair of men's shoes and exchanged for a different color a week later. Unfortunately, the exchanged shoes weren't tried on and the fit was different. Didn't want to return them since they were obviously worn already, but I advise you always try on your shoes even if they're just exchanges. Another reason for the 3 stars is because it's extremely inconsiderate to smoke cigars inside the store. read more

Bodell's is a welcome respite from the schlock scene we suffer in this century. The store is what shoe stores used to be back in the 1940s and 1950s, with the addition of a lot of footwear from overseas. Quality footwear, too--brands like Taos, Ara, and good ol' Birkenstock. To top it off, it's located in Parkview Village, which is another throwback. Richard, the owner, immediately greeted me and sat me down to measure my feet with the classic foot measure (I learned that one of my feet was bigger than the other). I stopped in here because Jack's Shoe Repair appears shuttered/permanently closed and remembered ages (25+ years) ago I came here and bought a pair of Florsheim wingtips (my first pair of quality shoes that sadly can no longer be resoled). Nothing like walking into a store and getting that slight whiff of leather. Allen Edmonds and Birkenstock are the only brands I recognized; I was looking for something casual/dressy boots without being worker/heritage like Red Wings. If you like Darn Tough socks (I have five pair myself) you come to the right place. They have a small selection of Saphir shoe cremes as well as a good stock of TRG (not familiar with TRG but Saphir is considered to be one of the finest polishes, so don't let the $9 cost scare you...remember that you're caring and protecting for your footwear). Picked up a couple brushes and the black Saphir, as well as getting measured (since I've been improperly measured since forever) and discovered I'm a 11.5 E left and 12 D right foot. read more

Went in to look at a pair of shoes for my New York trip with my mom. Mr. Bodell was super helpful in getting my shoe size measured. I loved how he measured my feet the old school way and was attentive in helping me pick the right shoe. I purchased a pair of Schutz sandals online from another seller but they peel my feet when I wear them often and explained this to him. Mr. Bodell recommended Birkenstocks (I've owned a pair) and even gave me tips on how to clean them too. I've never felt more well attended at a shoe store. Recently had my Birkenstocks re-soled by Bodell's. Not only did they re-sole they also helped fill in some cork that had worn down, resealed the cork to protect it from the elements and touched up other parts of the sandals. I couldn't be happier with the outcome! It's so amazing to slip my feet into the perfectly broken in sandals that are like new again (minus the breaking in period that's typically required of a new Birkenstock). This was my first time purchasing from Bodell's Shoes. Superb customer service, like when I was a kid- they actually measure your foot for length and width. And they place the shoe on your foot! I was looking for a walking shoe for Europe-not a running shoe and they recommended a shoe, that I can't remember the name of it... starts with a letter "M". Anyway, it was so amazingly perfect. There was no need to break in this shoe, it was comfortable from the start. We are walking 5 to 11 miles a day no problem! The only time I felt uncomfortable when I was standing for a long period time, once I started walking my feet/legs were fine! On my on volition, (no hard sales here), I saw a sandal and asked to try on with no intention to purchase. Once I put my foot in the Taos Sideways Sandal my foot just gushed right into it. Immediate comfort and no break in period needed! I have narrow feet and love the adjustable straps. I ended up buying both pair of shoes, took them both to Europe. I wore the walking shoes more only because it's so crowded on trains, subways and attractions and didn't want my toes to be stepped on. Came here for a basic low heel in black since its required for my job but i didnt want to change into flats as well. A bit expensive but the shoe quality here is spectacular as well as the customer service. Family owned place and the owner is very nice and proud of his products that he sells. After a few weeks of breaking them in (oh man was it painful) it was worth the pain as they are very comfortable to wear all day for 5-7 hours on my feet. After a few months the bottom part of my heel fell off on one heel. I took it in and they repaired it free of charge. Wasnt expecting that at all! So nice of them to repair it on them since he is proud of the products he sells he said it shouldve never happened. I will come here again and recommend to others. Worth every penny! read more

I purchased a pair of sandals and, after a couple months, realized the top strap Velcro design kept coming lose whenever I moved my foot. I went back in to see if Mr Bodell could do anything to stop it from happening. While I was waiting for him to finish with another customer, I found another pair of sandals on his display rack that had a different strap design which worked perfectly for me. I offered to pay him the difference since I had already worn the other sandals for two months. He said he would just swap out my old pair for the new ones at no charge. I asked if he was sure. Go to one of the few genuine shoe stores anywhere. After foot surgery I require custom orthotics. I walk in and tell him I want a black dress shoe and show him the orthotics. I tell him I like responsible shoe companies. "Me too" he says. He measures my foot and says "I have a couple ideas, I'll be right back." As he unpacks the two options he gives me a history lesson of the two companies, their responsible business practices, and laces up a shoe. Previous brands they used to carry are no longer in the shelf. I ask why. He tells me manufacturing has moved to other countries with questionable practices, reduced quality, and same higher price. Anyway both options fit perfect, nice leather, similar price, and I am stuck. So I end up with the SAS Made in USA! Last year I bought 2 pair of Birkenstocks and Made in USA flip flops!
