Fun little deli in a college setting. Good sandwiches and reasonably priced. Service was fast

It's been a while since I've been to Bodega. It was always a good place to grab a wonderful deli sandwich or a piece of quiche, sparkling water, and baklava for dessert. When the coffee house was closed( this is a midwest thing; business close on random days and random hours if there is a ball game, friend's wedding, gymnastic practice, or the county fair going on) we decided to go to Bodega. The inside is small and congested. At this time there were 3 loud talkers whose voices were booming and filling the entire store. We went to the deli section which offered few selections. Decided on the chicken salad on marbled rye. Service was fast and the sandwich looked amazing. Sadly that is where is ended. The chicken salad, while abundant, lacked flavor. Very bland. The bread was delicious. Baklava was excellent. However, while my husband and I were eating our meal and finally able to hear one another (the loud talkers left), the server was cleaning the floor, stacking chairs, wiping down tables and booths, clearly wanting us to leave. Closing time was 20 minutes away but my gosh, could she have been any more obvious and rude. Would I go there again? Ehhhh. It left a lot to be desired. read more

Honestly, my experience was great. We came at an off-time and were the only ones there - so service was great, timely and friendly. The shop was clean. And our food was very tasty and reasonably priced. Not sure what else I could ask for. read more

First visit and was a nice one too! The quaint storefront in uptown for a start. But also friendly service and a good sandwich value as well. Parking is my meter in front of their business. It's tiny inside with a few tables that will likely be occupied by Miami University students. None of the tables were being wiped down and all of the napkins were depleted. They had ample supply statue register. Order at the counter after reviewing the menu board.on the wall. It's a smallish menu that works well for them. They also open for breakfast which is newer post COVID. I got a hot pastrami on white and my daughter grilled cheese on white. Sandwiches come with a bag of chips. They offer fountain Coke product drinks and bottled. The joint has a NY Deli vibe which I like. With only three total staff, likely all students it was a bit slow on pulling the orders together. However I was not in a hurry either. The orders popped up 15 min or so and I paid at that time. Tip is off the machine. My daughter really liked her sandwich with fresh bread and gooey American cheese. The plating was no frills. Mine was very good as well with only complaint a section of fatty meat that should not have been used. In my opinion the sandwich should be served cut in half. The chips were good too! I can see myself being back on future visits. 3.5 rounding up. read more

I'm a former employee so I ate bodega pretty constantly and I still love it! I will say, however, it is not always the most consistent. Sometimes you're just going to get a better sandwhich than other times. I personally recommend the Muffalata or the Papa D, they're great! All the deli items such as the mac salad or pastas are also great. Most desserts are homemade except the baklava. It can take some significant time to get your food if the place is really packed but otherwise pretty quick. The vibe in there is cute and it's nice that the prices have gone back down to normal, definitely worth going to if you live in Oxford or if you're visiting! read more

Did a college visit with our Daughter to Miami University and decided to have lunch at Bodega. The sandwiches were good and the price was reasonable compared to most any sandwich shop these days. We had the Dina, the Muffalata, and the Papa D. They were all good. They come with chips and a pickle. The bread the sandwiches were on was very good. The only downside was it was slow. They were working hard, but hard for small businesses to know how busy they are going to be on a given day. I would give this place a shot if you are in Oxford around lunch time. read more

Got sandwiches (2) and chips (with a pickle apiece), one fountain drink and one can drink. After tip (yes of course I still tip even when it's not great, so long as the service was good - service work is HARD and not well-paying), it came to @$36. Sandwiches were tasty but not exactly large, and when I inquired before I ordered as to the provenance of their meats, the prep seemed...annoyed, and curtly said "it varies" before admitting it just comes from a food service. Hey I get it, no big deal, but I just asked a simple question. Maybe she was having a bad day. But the sandwich I ordered sans onions then came with onions on it. Again no big deal but when I picked the food up (for $36 you don't get table service?) I noted my sandwich had the onions so I just noted it and while they looked a little surprised there was no apology nor any actual regret at having made the error. Points are: service was quick and the food is actually good. But the portions are a bit short and the attitude is not becoming for retail. I've had good experiences here and at the same time had some not great ones - I find that each time I go my sandwich turns out different whether that be for better or for worse. Pricing is decent and they do have good variety! Their deli salads are also good. Be warned the space inside is very small and limited if you're looking to sit down to eat. read more

Super yum food! It can be busy during peak times but they have a nice selection and you can even get Perrier . It's an easy walk from campus and I great place to get lunch. Not much seating inside but it's just a little joint. Nice to sit outside and observe High St in the nice weather. Another place that makes Oxford the "perfect college town." Below average turkey club: dry turkey, plain white bread and cheese reminiscent of bland cheese you get out of plastic wrap! I should have asked specifically for mayo or some kind of dressing to give it some moisture. I had such high hopes for this place based on what you yelpers were saying! The sandwich was a total bust. Also pricey considering the disappointing quality of food. Three sandwiches with three chips and three bottled drinks: 30 buck-a-roos! Yikes! Shoulda tried Jimmy John's instead...bummer. VERY disappointed especially given all the glowing positive reviews. (Really?!) We're never coming back here with all the other tastier choices Oxford has to offer. Thanks, but no thanks... Still thinking about that yummy sandwich 2 days later... its time for a review. I LOVE Bodega. Their chef has a daily special every day and I was lucky enough to get the peach glazed pork belly on a pretzel bun a few days ago. GLORIOUS! Paired with my impulse buy of their peach cheesecake, this girl was in lunch heaven. I also love their standard menu as well, but really... go for the special, it's always good and always different. This is a great tiny local place and you'll probably have to wait a few minutes for your food, but it's well worth it. Give it a try. read more

Bodega is a staple of Oxford and a must try. It is the old deli style with daily specials some of which they may run out of early. You can get soups, salads, sandwhiches and sweets and i feel like i have even seen specialty mac and cheese before. I love that they always have their standard items but specialty items each day. Service is quick, seating is limited however. But you won't be disappointed. This is a great place to grab some food to go! read more

Everyone's pretty much covered what I wanted to say about La Bodega. It's a tad overpriced for Oxford (two sandwiches, two small cups of salad and two bottled sodas ran me and my mom $23). If we had been in NYC, I wouldn't have batted an eye. The staff, as mentioned, is a little 'meh'. It was our first time there and the hippie-with-money girl behind the counter was a little abrupt in explaining their ordering policy (order deli items first, pay for those and the drinks you pick out when they're ready). Sorry, sis, we're from out-of-town. Oh, and the music - some sort of trance-y ambient repetitive crap - totally didn't fit the vibe in there, but at least it wasn't too loud. But yes, the basil mayo is fantastic, they don't skimp on sprouts, and the Ensalada Caprese was prefectly light and summery. My usual complaint with Oxford's establishments - and this being no exception - is that there are too many college douchebags and sorostitutes patronizing them. But that's like saying, "Chuck E. Cheese would be a great place if it weren't for all the screaming children." Like it or not, they ain't going anywhere. This is a must-go place if you're in Oxford for an extended period of time. It's a deli so each day is a little different in terms of what you'll find made fresh -- lasanga, spanakopita, mac and cheeses, soups and various salads. You can also get a huge variety of deli sandwiches. My personal favorites are the hot pastrami sandwich and their chipotle mac and cheese. The place itself is very eclectic and cute. It's a unique spot for Oxford and you can buy wines, beer, baked goods to go. It's a little pricey so I make this is a special place to go once in a while. read more

Oh, how I miss La Bodega. Whenever I think of their vegetarian club, my mouth starts to water. The basil mayo, the gouda cheese, the roasted red peppers, the sprouts.....ahhhhhh.... The best deli (...only deli?) in Oxford! I really miss eating here 3+ times a week back in my co-ed days. I made it in to La Bodega for the first time recently, and I enjoyed it. A friend who went to Miami recommended it, saying he ate here more than anywhere else uptown while in college. Good enough for me! It's a small place without much seating. I'd say they can accommodate a dozen or so, tops. They have a nice variety of sandwiches, pretty straight forward selection. You step up to the counter, place your order (on your choice of bread) and walk down to the register. The prices are a bit on the high side - $7 not including chips, drink, etc. My sandwich was piping hot and super greasy. In other words, delicious. I don't think this will be a "go to" place for me, but I'll be back. read more

Wanted to try somewhere new for lunch. Drove 40 mins to try Bodega due to several outstanding reviews. Maybe my expectations where high due to the overall good reviews but I really can't say I enjoyed the food. We tried several dishes since it was our first time there. We hade spicy Mac and cheese (was not fresh, tasted like it had been sitting there for days), potato salad (puréed, maybe ok for someone who doesn't have teeth), mashed potatoes (tasted like paste), the house macaroni salad (just ok), eggs salad sandwich (bland) and the hot pastrami sandwich (decent). The food was bland and overpriced. The service was subpar, rude and rushed. I really wanted to like the place and the food. It fell short on quality of food, service and cost. read more

Great deli with a wonderful selection of unique and delicious sandwiches. They also have a great selection of home-cooked-style dishes like mashed potatoes and lasagna which are just as good. Their cheesecakes are a definite must. One of my favorite things is the variety of unusual bottled drinks they offer, which really add to the whole meal. I know that sounds minor, but trust me that the interesting sodas make it infinitely more fun. Plus, they're dog-friendly and have moist towelettes at their tables. I can't believe this place had 4 stars. I had high hopes but ended up paying $10 for 5oz of pasta salad and a "pastrami" sandwich with at most only 3oz of meat. The pastrami is essentially shaved roast beef and is nothing like any pastrami I have had before. Honestly I could have ordered a $1 sandwich at Arby's and gotten more meat. The bread wasn't bad but it was also about 80% of the sandwich. Also it came with "chips" that are actually potato crisps which was disappointing. To make matters worse I had to wait over half an hour for this one disappointing sandwich. Now I'm out of my money and still hungry. I got carry out and if it wasn't so far away I would have asked for a refund. I will say that the pasta salad was pretty good but the fact I spent $10 and am still hungry keeps it at 1 star. I would like to summarize this review through one particular visit I had last week. Since Chipotle had a ~45 minute wait, I decided to walk half a block down to La Bodega for a quick dinner. What I didn't know was that I would be having one of the best meals of the year!. I ordered a pound of garlic mashed potatoes and a pound of pulled pork. When the waitress jokingly asked if I was having a party, I said "yeah i am!" Between me and you, I ate that two pounds of food within a 15 minute period . I have no regrets. The garlic mashed potatoes were perfect. not too salty, not too chunky. Just right. And the pulled pork, Perfect as well. Sweet and tangy. Also tender. The most important detail that I am hiding is the price. 8 dollars for the two pounds of food that i regrettably shoved in my face hole. Not because it didn't taste good, but because I hate myself for eating that much. Oh well, it is December and I plan on making a new years resolution to lose 60 pounds. this will bring me down to 280 lbs. read more

I have been a loyal customer but unfortunately this restaurant has gone extremely downhill. I have been three times this semester and received the wrong order all three times. The first they charged me $13.00 and when I got home I realized they only gave me half of my sandwich. The second, they made my sandwich hot when I specifically asked for it cold. It was so sloppy and luke warm that I threw it out. The third they gave me the wrong size pasta, no pesto and were rude and judgmental when I asked for my pasta warm. They also took 38 minutes to give me my take out order of pasta and tuna salad, which is already made and just needed to be packaged. They are extremely slow, unprofessional, over priced and unorganized. If you're looking for similar food in the Oxford area, I suggest going to Moon Co-op where the service is much faster, food is much fresher, and the employees much more pleasant. read more

I have been eating at La Bodega occasionally since 2004. It used to be one of my "go-to" places, but the value has definitely decreased over time and so I have gone there less and less as a result. Some prices have increased, and a sandwich used to include a side in the price but no longer does. So, it is not the most affordable place. Last time I went with a friend, our meal cost about $25 which is a bit high in my opinion for two deli sandwiches, two sides, and two drinks in Oxford, Ohio. However, despite this, the food is good and it is vegetarian friendly. My favorite sandwiches are the Devo and the Vegetarian Club and their Brie Mushroom soup is also delicious. read more
