Water glasses were a little dingy looking. I'm sure they had been washed but weren't sparkly clean. The service was adequate, nothing more. We had a pretty good time here! It was about 90° outside and we got on the waitlist for "first available" which was 100% our fault because we should have waited for a seat inside. In this heat I'd recommend waiting for inside, because there were two big fans outside that were on some tables and I'm sure it felt great, but because our table was behind the fan it was too hot to be able to enjoy our food. They definitely need more than two fans so staff and can have one as well as all tables. Our experience probably would have been much better if we were inside! I would definitely come back to try inside, or in better weather. read more

Bodega was great. I'm glad we came here. It was by accident, the bagel place we had in mind was closed so we stumbled upon Bodega while we were downtown. I got the classic Bodega breakfast sandwich. Our only complaint is that there was a DJ and the music was so loud that we could barely talk to one another, even the person sitting next to you. Came here on a super busy Saturday morning and tried a couple different sandwiches. I tried the breakfast sandwich with Taylor ham and the fried chicken sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was nice and warm with a good amount of cheese and I loved the soft roll it came on. It got a little salty from the ham but nothing too bad. The fried chicken sandwich was quite delicious too. It had a surprising amount of spice to it as well which I enjoyed. On to the downfalls. I understand they were busy but it literally took almost 45 minutes for us to get our order. We only ordered 3 sandwiches. My wife got the turkey and bacon sandwich and they put a bunch of bruised/old avocado in it which gave it a very unpleasant look. Taste was fine. My boyfriend and I get Togo here quite often, we had an appt at 1 right down the street so I ordered at 12:15 thinking it would only take about 20 min. I was standing by the host stand waiting for about 30 min and one of the employees told another person that food is going to take at least 45 mins. I panicked a little realizing we were going to be very late. I decided to flag down a manager and tell him what was going on since I was going to have to leave. I offered for them to just hold the food in the fridge until around 2:15 when we could come back. He said that was fine. When we came back, I waited a few min for my food and when I got our food, I realized they remade it for us. I was so happy, we were both starving so as soon as I got to the car we ate our food. I work in food and Bev so I know when things get backed up in the kitchen it's impossible to go any faster. The only thing I would have changed from this experience is just for the girl at the counter to tell me how long it was going to be. As much as I love their sandwiches, we would've just gotten fast food at that point. But the manager really took care of us and I tried the "Bleu balls" special and for the love of God, PLEASE make that a menu item. Went here with my sister for dinner last night and adored the hole-in-the-wall feel of the interior; the Truffle burger - aside from being the only option - was terrific. My wife and I were super excited to try bodega, as we had tried the pop up prior to them opening the full storefront and we thought the sandwiches were amazing. As far as the look and design of the restaurant, it was awesome. It was a little confusing at first because there are multiple connected restaurants, so we weren't exactly sure which was correct spot to enter. They have cool murals and very open outdoor seating sections all over. We were seated quickly on the patio, but once there was when it started to slow down somewhat. The waitress was very nice, but it took a pretty long while for us to have someone stop by. She brought us a few waters, which was nice, but the taste of the water seemed a little off or like it was just from a tap. I ordered the low country sandwich. Biscuit, sausage, egg, sausage gravy, and cheese. Again took a while to come, but the sandwich was very large and filling. This one seemed a bit more runny and greasy than the one I had before at the pop up, which I thought was a downside, but overall it was a very good sandwich. The atmosphere of the restaurant seemed very fun. We only went during breakfast, but online it does seems like throughout the day the restaurant changes into a couple different restaurants. It was a little confusing figuring out what menu was served when, but I'm sure they will get that sorted out as they grow. Overall, we wanted to love it, and we did end up really liking it, but I do think they have some room to grow into as they are operating a little longer. We will definitely give another try next time we are in Charleston. read more
