I used to teach at Tatum, so I have been to this Bodacious a few times. My wife and I were camping at nearby Martin Creek Lake State Park, so went to Bodacious for dinner. It was wonderful, as always. This is probably the best Bodacious restaurant I have experienced. The best ribs on the planet are at Country Tavern in nearby Kilgore, Texas. Bodacious ribs are a fairly close second, with every other Texas barbecue rib joint being a distant third. Bodacious of Tatum is well deserving of 5 stars. read more

Food was average. I had chopped beef and husband had loaded baked potato. He was expecting it to be loaded but it was basically a potato with meat and fixings on the side. The meat was a little bland. No seasoning except for BBQ sauce that we added. read more

Absolutely fantastic ribs. When I'm traveling east or west this is a must stop every time I come through. Tried BBQ beef in Nashville twice earlier on this trip and wanted to taste Texas' version. Initially the brisket looked too dry and lean but I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted so good! It was great that you could toast the bread yourself to make your own sandwich. The brisket with toast was so good we had three helpings of bread. Simple menu. Simple place. Overnight truck parking so i will be back. Ribs are kind of chewier than i prefer but the glaze was really good. Peppery and sweet. Probably spicy for most but i have a high tolerance for burn. No smoke ring. Sides and stuff didnt look that exciting so i just stuck to ribs. We were driving through Tatum on our way to Dallas. We were tempted when we passed by and vowed to stop on way back. Best part of trip. Traveling/Moving from Colorado to New Orleans we were starving and simply tired of the standard grab and go food. Knowing we were still an hour or so away for our final destination for the night I decided to Yelp a place near by to eat quickly yet good. Let me tell you this little place is a true Texas treasure! I had 1/4 lb Turkey, 1/4 lb sliced brisket and 1/2 lb ribs. My husband as 1/4 lb hot link and a beef Sloppy Joe sandwich with BBQ beans. WOW! The meat even without the BBQ sauce was melt in your mouth succulent and the sauce was the perfect blend of sweet yet tart. So wish we would be living close enough to go back frequently. Love the Steaks on FRIDAYS Starting at 6pm. Mesquite wood cooked to perfection. 16 Oz Ribey with the best flavor in both steak and even the baked potato is delicious. Oh it does come with a salad and after dinner cobbler. The steak has fat, but if you are familiar with Mesquite grilling? You know that means the best flavor. When we travel, we almost always try the local BBQ places. I grew up passing this place and never made it until tonight. Decent inside dining area and no-nonsense counter to order at. The menu is one-sided with typical BBQ fare: brisket, ribs, hot links, turkey, etc. There is no kids menu, but order a combo plate and you'll have plenty for you and the kids. The sides are limited: potato salad, cole slaw, and pinto beans. I wish they'd advertise the beans as they really are...jalapeño pintos. I got the beans to share with my three year old, but they were too spicy to share. I had the turkey and ribs combo and my husband had a brisket sandwich and a hot link wraparound (fancy phrase for kielbasa with white bread). The turkey was great and the ribs were meaty. However, the ribs were a little over seasoned for me. The combos come with sides but the rest of the stuff is a la cart. They also have a few desserts, but we didn't try them. A slice of pie is $4. Overall, the food was good but a little pricey and misleading when it came to the type of beans. The redeeming feature was their iced tea. Perfect. Half sweet/unsweet and it was great. read more

Pretty solid barbecue chain if you're in the neighborhood, but not a "destination" BBQ in my opinion. Generous portions of meat served with slices of white bread. The ribs were cooked just right and very flavorful, and would be my top choice. The sausage was very good. The sliced beef was a bit on the dry side and blander than I expected. I might have rated it a bit higher, but at the time of my visit at 6pm on Friday they were already out of salad and stuffed jalapenos, even though the place was not very busy. Hubby and I stopped here with 2 of our kids because our 4 year old needed to potty. We decided to go ahead and eat. We were glad we did. We ordered a combination plate (includes 2 meats and 2 sides). I prefer sliced brisket and the hubby prefers chopped pork so a combination plate works well for us. We ordered one chopped pork sandwich for the littles to share. First, the only slight negatives...the beans were good but just beans. They had a good amount of seasoning and a good flavor, but they were jut beans. However, once I added a little of the regular BBQ sauce to the beans, they became spectacular beans. The brisket was very good and VERY lean! My only slight critique is that it needs a little more seasoning of some kind. Those were the only two negatives! Now, as I said earlier, I don't normally like chopped pork, BUT I tried some of the pork and it was very flavorful. It was incredibly lean but very juicy. The slight crust that could be found sometimes was very sweet and slightly smoky. The true flavor of the pork came through. Now, for that sauce I mentioned...They store the sauce in bottles in a warm water bath to keep the sauce nice and warm. No cold sauce here! When it goes onto the meat (or the beans), it doesn't make your food cold! We are wusses and only tried the regular (didn't even attempt the hot)! The flavor was smoky and sweet with a slight heat. It compliments all of the food very well. We could probably have drank the stuff straight from the bottle. (Luckily, they sell it in small bottles and by the gallon!) The atmosphere is very cute and rustic. There is plenty of seating and they have a section off of the main dining room that could be used for a larger group. Everywhere you look is something new and different. You could spend quite awhile looking at everything. The customer service of the place stood out even more than the food! From the moment we walked in the staff was friendly, kind, and very polite. They treated us like family and not just another customer. I honestly felt as though I was a local or a regular because that is how they made us feel. With all of that being said, I will say that we will absolutely go back next time we are back in the area! read more

They don't truly have a combo meat plate but can make it up for you. Beware if you order Ribs by weight it will include the bone weight so you'll get ver little meat ( this is every where though). I I ordered a 5 rib sandwich & 1/2 lb brisket. Although The ribs were not in a sandwich, they were just placed on the tray and you get the bread on the side. Just the nicest folks I have met in a long time!! And the chow ain't bad either! Big portions of meat smoked just right. Texas style, sauce on the side so you can have it your way. The food is tasty. However, I just ate at this location and left very disappointed. After we placed our order and paid we were told that they were out of one of our entrees ( loaded baked potato) so we would have to reorder or wait for a potato to be baked. Then I found that the ONLY sweetener they had for tea was saccharin. Not even granulated sugar. THEN (about 10 minutes after ordering) we were informed that they were out of the breading for our fried pickles. My husband had to go the the register to REQUEST a refund! Amazing brisket sandwich and ribs! The only thing keeping it a 4 star vs 5 are the sides. The beans are very decent but just save your appetite for the amazingly tender meats. Had the chopped beef sand which. Very moist and tasty. They brought it to our table with some warm BBQ sauce. I really like how there was a sink in the dining area to wash up before and after you eat. You didn't have to hunt down the bathroom. read more
