One of the 2013 Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ restaurants, which failed to make the cut in 2017 and 2021. We stopped by this family owned and operated 'cue joint (our 90th BBQ adventure in Texas) to learn whether they were still trimming the bark off the brisket (they are), and using a microwave to warm the plate (still the case). $35.18 purchased a 2 meat platter (brisket and links) with a medium side of baked beans, and a sausage plate with a medium side of potato salad. The latter is our favorite commercial product, while the beans are terrific-- a rich molasses based bowl into which we dipped the otherwise bland brisket to add flavor. The sausage and links both proved to be good bites, both packing heat, especially the links. Sadly, this place has closed down. It use to be the very best bbq around and family run business. After, Bob passed away, his wife and their grown boys continued to run it. My wife and I finally got to try this place and I'm sad and I only regret we didn't go sooner. Both their spicy and regular boudin is some of the best I've had. Theit brisket is pretty good and their hot links are tasty and you can't go wrong with any of the sides. We finished everything with pecan cobbler. I have no complaints. There was a microwave but it doesn't do any of the actual cooking. They just put things in for a few seconds (literally less than a minute) to warm some things like the sauce or the cobbler. read more

We had this food catered to our work. The brisket was tender and tasty, the BBQ sauce was not typical....it was good and different. The sausage and peach cobbler were both good too. Potato salad and beans were decent. We wanted ribs but they were forgotten. Overall, this is worth a try. read more

This place is a hidden gem! From the outside it doesn't really look like a BBQ restaurant because you can't see the smoke (or even smell it.) When you walk inside the smoked meat permeates your senses! When you walk up to the counter you can see the wonderful smiling faces of the owners. They greeted us with hellos the moment we entered. We chose to go low key with chopped beef sandwiches but HAD to try some ribs also. The only negative I will say is that the chopped was very well chopped, to the point of almost being a little mushy. However the taste was exactly what you would expect from a BBQ restaurant. Juicy! Smokey! Hot (heat not spice.)! Flavorful! The ribs were fall of the bone tender and so full of flavor as well! If you come in to this place you MUST try the cobbler as well! We tried both the peach and the pecan! The pecan cobbler was just like a pecan pie (but not as sickeningly sweet). The peach was spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg! (Try a bite of both together and your taste buds will explode!) If you are in the area you MUST try this place!! This is home style barbecue. you'll find the featured items du jour displayed upfront. they are a little bit off the highway, so keep your eyes looking several hundred feet off to your right and you Can't miss them. My where has all the great BBQ gone. Honest review is The chop beef sandwich is drenched is so much sauce to hide the fact it has no flavor. The ribs that are extremely dry. Sausage is ok. Better quality at Sams club and it's way over priced. If I pay a lot for my meal. I'd like to taste that quality and know the price was worth it. This 105 dollar meal was more like 25. The staff are extremely fun. Polite and energetic but I'm not paying for the staff. Lol. Anyways. If you just need a taste for some "BBQ" then stop by. Be careful... if you are an actual BBQ snob, you need to be prepared before you go into Bobs. Bob is good at catering to the local crowd who may not know what good BBQ is... meaning, they will sauce your brisket and throw it in a microwave to warm it if you are not up front about ordering correctly. He does serve true "Fatty" or moist brisket, and it is absolutely delicious, but they will kill it if you don't warn them that you know how you like it. I was given this tip before going, and I have to admit, this place was just as good as Franklin's in Austin...without the 4 hour wait. Great beef, the right amount of elasticity, meant a great meal. read more

We were driving through to a funeral on Saturday. We bought a pound of ribs, half of chicken, a pint of coleslaw and of course pickled okra. The meat was so good sauce was not needed. Bob's is pretty much catty-cornered across the street from bodacious bbq which I am a fan of. But Bob's is more home cooked flare, because they're not a chain. Made a quick decision to try Bob's BBQ out and it is and what BBQ is about. No fancy menu here, just some of the best Q I have eaten. Bob was right there behind the counter. Super nice guy with a great staff. We had the chopped beef sandwich. Perfectly prepared, brisket is chopped to order and sauced on the bun. If you know Q, you know this keeps the smoke more concentrated in the meat. We had the turkey sandwich which is sliced deli thin and has just a touch of smoke. It was very good. We had the sausage sandwich was superb. The sausage was super tender and very smokey. Went ahead and tried the mild boudin and another hit. The skin was crispy and the rice mixture was delicious, so delicious in fact that my 7 year old stole it and ate it all. Let me not forget the pecan cobbler, different but good. Last but not least the sauce is very good. It is tomato based with a nice tang and sweetness that compliment each other perfectly. Epic boudin!!! I ordered it with the delicious potato salad. It was very good and the service was great! The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. Family owned and operated! When you walk through the door you are warmly greeted with pleasant smiles! They are always ready to serve you with excellent teamwork. I absolutely love going in and talking with the family because they are absolutely good,honest, hard working, and pleasant. No matter how much weight I gain, lose, or how long I may go without physically picking my own order up, they never forget my face or name! This shows me that they value their customers and that goes a long way! Aside from that, their barbecue wins my vote as the best in East Texas. The Spicy Boudin and Hot Links are a must have.
