Wanting some "authentic Texas" comfort food, we pulled off the highway for a look-see...we ordered enough for the 5 of us and weren't disappointed, not in the least. From the baked beans /mac and cheese / potato salad sides to the ribs, chicken and homemade sauce, it was worth the stopover. A big shout out to server Nina who could see we weren't from around here for suggesting a meal out of the ordinary. If we ever visit these parts again, you can for sure find us here. Military discount, strong free wifi and a clean dining area...good times!

Can't wait to come back !!!!

I can't drive through east Texas and NOT stop and eat at Bodacious !!! The chopped brisket sandwich is out of this world !! I worship the potato salad , the beans , and the slaw !!! The service is wonderful and friendly !!

Just mediocre

Thought we give this a try. Hubby grew up in this area & after hearing about how wonderful this place is compared to Bill Millers. First off I love Bill Millers chop! I guess we all have our preferences based off of childhood experiences. This chop was decent, I've had better The sausage was rather bland. Was in dire need of seasoning. The potato salad was lacking seasoning as well The Mac & cheese was decent. I probably would never eat here again. Seriously the pics are not appealing at all. Save your money could probably get a better meal @ truck stop!

Bodacious BBQ is a hot or miss at there locations. Could use more Wood Smoke and less Gas. I ordered a slice beef sandwich and it was skimpy on the brisket which was very dry and bland....had to really pour on the bbq sauce to wolf it down.

The Mailman

The daily specials are great. Especially on Wednesdays when they have "the Mailman." It's an amazing sandwich with their best slow smoked chopped beef and spicy links mixed up in the same meal. Top it off with the best gumbo west of the Red River and you have a meal fit for a real mailman.

Quick and smooth service. I enjoyed the dry ribs and onions. It was a side-road bbq pit. Nothing spectacular just hungry

Some of the best barbecue in Texas! Helpful staff, excellent food and some of the best sauce around. My whole family loves going here.

When we travel to Shreveport or Bossier City, we always plan our trip through East Texas so we are at this exit on I20 for a meal.

First the gas is competitively priced for the area... no out of line pricing or tricks. There are quit a few pumps so even as busy as it was both my wife and I found open pumps. The area is very well lit and clean too. Then you walk inside! On the store side there is a true menagerie of merchandise, snacks, drinks, interesting finds, and just flat of things that normal "quick" stops just don't have. It is easy to spend way more time then you thought you ever would just looking around in here. It is also easy to spend more then you intended once you see all you can get and the odd finds. They also have a Jerky bar... with bunches of selection. The other side offers several sit down or take a way food options as well. Lots of choices for the hungry and needy road warrior. The whole location was clean, well staffed, friendly and just top notch! A GREAT unexpected stop that we will sure stop at again when we are back this way.

Touristy and bland. I kept waiting for flavor to come and it never came. I had the turkey…read more(flavorless) ham (flavorless) and brisket (the only thing that had flavor) and tasteless mashed potatoes (they don't serve gravy) The cornbread was generic and dry. Honestly without floating everything in bbq sauce it was pretty much elementary cafeteria style. If it hadn't been for the EV charger we wouldn't have stopped. And that was 3x the amount of other chargers

Coming from the big Texas cities and fancy bbq, Carter's is definitely a no frills local joint and super packed. Love the atmosphere and the people are as sweet as their tea. Huge portions! I just don't see why folks don't want to eat the juicy, moist, fatty portions of the brisket!?! That's is the best part...but next time I will remember to ask to get those pieces. Now the regular brisket it was necessarily dry...but it just wasn't the fatty lusciousness I'm use to eating. When you walk in the people behind the counter were really nice and actually SPOKE! Now being from East Texas that's what I'm use to and miss about people. Living in the DMV area now these folks can't be really standoffish and that's why I can't wait to go back soon...but I digress. I really wanted to try the turkey but it was already sold out by the time I made it there. So make sure you come early to try it. I did wish they offered chicken because that would have been a great addition to my meal. My two sides were potato salad and coleslaw. Both of which I really don't like. Straight to the point bbq spot down in East Texas and can't wait to come back to hopefully try the turkey and MOSIT brisket!

It was Tuesday afternoon and there was no line but they were sold out of turkey. Very interesting...... The decor was great with really cool bbq themed posters and guitars. The restrooms were very clean. They do not brew their own tea and have waters, bottled teas and sodas in a cooler. We ordered a pound of brisket and 16 oz container each of the brisket mexican street corn and the charro beans. Please do not employ the salt shaker and in fact, keep any salt granules WAY FAR AWAY from your food items. It is perfectly seasoned and does not need it, OK? Maybe a little ice water to have with your cue would be a good idea! I thought the brisket and the sides we tried were some of the finest I have ever had and I was admittedly a little sad to see it dwindle away over the next day or two in the refrigerator. I think I need some more of that perfect elote, charro bean, brisket goodness, dog gonnit!!!!! That nagging feeling I get about the turkey selling out so quickly......should I have that on our next visit? I think so.
