I was on yelp looking for a BBQ place to give me a real Texas experience as it was my first time visiting. We got there for an early lunch and not many people were there, maybe 2. We got a little discouraged but it smelled amazing inside and the food looked good. Its kind of like a cafeteria type setting. You tell them what you want meat wise & they put it on your tray. You can put any other sides on your tray. They were nice because our group pretty much took all the Mac & cheese and one of us got the very bottom, one of the ladies was nice enough to bring us an extra bowl at no extra charge. This is a very Texas feeling bbq joint. It has a lot of seating and a few tv's mounted throughout the place. The staff is awesome here, you feel like a regular every time you go in. The food is priced competitively. Everything looked delicious.I was there for lunch so I stuck with the brisket sandwich and coleslaw. The meat was very Smokey just how I like it. The bbq sauce is really good here. I stuck with the girly less spicy sauce. I know coleslaw is simple but it's easy to mess up and bodacious knocked it out of the park. This place is amazing! I got the 3 meat plate with sausage link, brisket, and ribs. The brisket & sausage was juicy a delicious. The ribs had a dry rub and were delicious also but, a little dry for me. (Just my preference) really liked their mac-n-cheese side. They don't serve alcohol but, they gave us directions to a liquor store down the road and told us to bring them back. They brought out a bucket filled with ice and helped us load it up! Okay, I have to be upfront and honest about Bodacious BBQ. I was raised in East Texas, the home of Bodacious BBQ. When I found out there was one in Arlington, I was leary. Bodacious had never wanted to move to the big city. I found out this was a direct descendant of the original owner who moved to the big city and had to open a Bodacious for the displaced East Texans. Bodacious has a limited time they are open which is my ONLY complaint. They are open Monday through Wednesday, 11-3. Thursday through Saturday they are open for lunch and dinner. This stinks if you are hungry earlier in the week and might have to go to their Burleson Location. Bodacious is Deep East Texas BBQ. What is Deep East Texas BBQ? Well, it is mostly about the Brisket. When a Bodacious meat cutter takes out a brisket, the outside is a deep, dark cola color. You can ALWAYS see a smoke ring! If you ask for Chopped Beef, it is not some "mystery bin" that they take the meat out of. They cut off some brisket and VIGOROUSLY chop it right in front of you... VIGOROUSLY. The chopped beef is not drowned in sauce. it is just CHOPPED BEEF. East Texas BBQ also has a spicey, slightly vinegary/mustardy sweet tomatoey BBQ sauce that could make an old chair taste better. Jugs of Bodacious sauce are for sale-don't worry. Lastly, they have links. Now, these are not just any links.. they are circa pittsburg, texas style spicey links which are sliced and are out of this world. Now, while Brisket Rules at Bodacious (chopped OR sliced), the RIBS are out of this world! They are baby backs, very smokey, pull right off the bone, and in one word.... DELICIOUS. This location has Ham and other meats. Meats are available by the pound or on platters. They have beans, potatoe salad, and cole slaw for sides which are all wonderful as well as the typical pickles, onions and other condiments for BBQ. Bodacious makes me think of my home in East Texas everytime I go and I can honestly say I do not go to eat there often enough. I love it. Of course, like I said... I'm biased. read more

I came across Bodacious on a recent visit back into the old hometown, and it actually took me by surprise. Coming back from the Hill Country always incites weird food expectations, but the products coming out of the smokers here actually rise up to a pretty decent standard. That being said, what they offer here is standard fare, prepared with some care. They do desserts from scratch, a variety of sides, and your typical animal selection. For a good smattering of the smoke fare, I would give the ribs, brisket, and turkey a spin--the turkey here threw me a curve ball. The brisket, slightly chewy and underseasoned, possessed a good beefy character, but was overall the least desirable of my experience. The turkey, as I hinted at above, was smoky, pretty moist, and tender. Ribs reigned supreme, despite its tough character. I am a huge fan of bark, and these pork-based, organ-encasing structures yielded meat, smokiness, and good seasoning. All in all, very acceptable 'cue. For those individuals who have stumbled across Bodacious Bar-B-Q, my hope is that your smoked meat adventures have not started and ended with this here 'cue establishment. I don't eat beef so I can't speak for the brisket but I do eat pork(yeah I know weird) I happen to love good BBQ and ribs are my favorite. I have friends to proclaim this the best BBQ place in Arlington and that could be true as I consider Arlington a weak town for BBQ and that is my opinion because I've yet to find a place that just "WOWS" me. I ordered the ribs and turkey, they were good but not overwhelming. The ribs were not fall of the bone tender and it just wasn't smoky enough for my taste. As a female, I can smoke some ribs and chicken so I expect BBQ restaurants to at least be as good as me. The portions received were good portion size I couldn't eat the whole meal but my meat required sauce and I think the meat should speak for itself. The sides the broccoli pasta salad was excellent and the potato salad was really good as well. Would I go here again? On my on probably not but with friends sure. My continual complaint about BBQ is the lack of quality meat. No matter how good your sauce is, and how you cook the meat, if you do not start with quality meat you will not end up with good barbecue. Period. I expected, being in Dallas Texas, and based on the reviews here, to find Bodacious firm believers in this credo. I expected to find all the meats moist and tender, with more flavor then imaginably possible, all topped with a sauce that must have been made by Angels. Unfortunately I was drastically disappointed, but some how not really surprised. A few of the meats were OK, a few were "eh," but nothing really stood out as a must eat entree here. Even more surprising was the lack in choices of sides. The sauce was good, but nothing I'd be raving about. I can find half a dozen brands of bottled sauce at my local store that are as good or better. Add in the tired atmosphere, the lack of drink choices, and other then location near the stadiums, there isn't much reason to really stop here. read more

Whenever I try a new BBQ place, I always get brisket because it is my barometer for their smoke pit. It takes a skilled pit master to make a moist, tasty brisket. When you get good brisket, then everything else out of the pit will be good, also. Ordered sliced brisket with sides of potato salad and cole slaw. It came out semi-sliced because they cut it up some more after they sliced it. Kinda like a cross between sliced and chopped brisket. There was very little smoke ring on the brisket and didn't have the unique brisket flavor, but tasted like roast beef. Sides were OK, nothing special. So I was rather unimpressed with Bodacious BBQ. No seasoning on it, only thing that made it edible was the bbq sauce. The ribs have normal smoky flavor but still no GOOD seasoning. Sides right up there with Kroger's Deli, so-so. Heard about this place off Yelp had great reviews and boy I am glad that I found it. My friend and I are from California and wanted some authentic Texas BBQ after a long day at Six Flags. When we walked in we were greeted by the friendly staff and they cut your meat for you right in front of you. My friend got the ribs and I got the chopped brisket sandwich. I would say this was the best beef brisket I've ever had by far and the sides were superb. I got potato salad and pinto beans which were excellent. Their chocolate cake was also amazing. I made a happy plate though! :D The Slow-Smoked Q: I've had each of the meats at least once, and they are all very tasty. My favorites are definitely the brisket and turkey. Both are the best I've had... juicy and smoky flavor. I like them without the sauce, but I love their sauce so I top them off. Sides: I ALWAYS get the cole slaw, because, well, it's amazing. I'm not even a fan of cole slaw, but I've actually gotten some to take home. It's fresh, seasoned well, and not dripping wet. The beans are good as far as beans go. Dessert: That banana pudding though... you won't want to share....with anyone.... no matter how much you love them. ;) It feels like it belongs in your mouth...a long lost friend that you've been reunited with... I stopped and ordered 2 pounds of pulled pork tonight, but got all the way home and had sliced turkey. I called to let them know a mistake was made and the man said he could give me the pulled pork if I brought the turkey back. I explained that my husband was still in town and could pick it up, but he would not come all the way home to bring turkey back. The manager said they could only exchange the meat because the turkey was for another customer. So I can only assume that they would sell this meat to someone else, after it has been in my home, I've obviously opened the container, with all the health issues going around right now. Disclaimer - I grew up on this chain. I started with Bodacious BBQ sauce in my bottle as an infant. There are several of these BBQ joints in East Texas and I seriously measure all BBQ against this chain. This review is for this location. I give Bodacious as a chain a thousand stars, but this location isn't my favorite. The meat is fantastic. I saw that one reviewer didn't have a good experience and I have to say, you should give them a second chance. The meat is always tender when I'm there. I like for my sliced brisket to fall apart when I'm eating it. Either on a sandwich or with a fork. I'm never disappointed here. I'm partial to the sliced brisket, turkey and sausage. My kids get the chopped and I love that they don't just chop up the fatty parts. They use the good parts of the meat for the chopped BBQ, too. The potato salad - that's where I have my problem. I'm used to the more mustardy potato salad they serve in the East Texas Bodacious restaurants. This is more creamy. Not a huge fan. And there's a weird spice I can't put my finger on. Staff is friendly if you come in when it isn't rush hour. Otherwise, they are efficient and kind of cold. But you move in that line. The sauce - oh my...it's the best. It's thick. It's not overly sweet. It's the best. I know, I know - reviewing BBQ sauce is like reviewing spaghetti sauce - everyone has their favorites, but I'm telling you, Bodacious has perfected the Texas BBQ sauce. Not too much sugar, vinegar, water. I can't stand a BBQ restaurant that has a thin, watery sauce. Be aware - you will smell like smoked brisket for the rest of the day. Even after a shower.
