Overpriced with Terrible Service - Tourist Trap Alert.
It might sound funny, but the unfortunate part of our experience with Boccaccio is the fact that restaurant serves very good food. However, the staff behavior is so inexcusable that it complete negates overall experience.
We arrived to the restaurant for the dinner at around 9 pm in the evening, a group of 5 people. We were seated quickly and then had to wait for about 15 minutes for anyone to show up and at least offer some water (it took 5 other reminders later on to actually get the water) - however, this is not the issue, of course.
The menu at the restaurant is written in misleading way to begin with, at least the English version. Paella, one of the main attractions on the menu, has somewhere in description that it can be ordered for two people minimum, but the price doesn't say if it is per person or just for the dish for two people. Never mind that. We placed an order for the table, and we got calamari, steamed mussels, paella and the sea bass. We informed the waiter that we will share our dinner, and we said that we need paella for 2 people.
Calamari arrived first, they were nicely grilled but a touch bitter. What was concerning that next the mussels arrived in two huge bowls, clearly in the double capacity. We were puzzled, but ddidn't ask questions - despite the fact that we ordered only one, they were tasty so we wouldn't object to that double order. But next we had two huge (seriously huge) skillets of paella arrive at our table, and we asked what is going on, the waiter said that this is what we ordered - two paella dishes for two people each. When we said that we never order that, he became extremely adamant about it, said that this happens multiple times every day (see my note about misleading menu), and he is not going to do anything.
If we would be a different setting (a group of friends or just a family), I would try really to fight this - in a business setting, everybody felt equally uncomfortable and nobody wanted to have a shouting match during the business meeting, so we just had to let it go.
End result is a completely spoiled evening with a good food (once you are put down like that, you really stop enjoying the experience and the conversation). Note that the cheapest dish at this restaurant is €20, so all in all we ended up paying an extra €86 (extra mussels and two extra paella) and have lots of food which was thrown out and deal with an adamant crook as our waiter.
In the end of the day, the real culprit is not the extra €17 we all had to pay - it is the feeling of being taken advantage of, as well as rude and disrespectful treatment we received at the restaurant.
Whomever owns this restaurant should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen at their restaurant.
