When I questioned the wait, the woman working there said to me in Spanish, "¿Pa' qué viniste pues, si no quieres esperar?" Basically, "Why did you come then if you don't want to wait?" This location in LA Koreatown is one of six in Los Angeles county, and the first one my wife and I have been to. Even with a hiccup, we had a good experience with the food and service. Pelicana is the feminine form of Pelican in Spanish, and represents the idea of sharing food, feeding loved ones. I prefer this style of eating, where dishes are shared across dining companions, allowing sampling of various dishes. In this case, it was just my wife and me so ended up ordering a simple 1/2 order of their chicken. My wife is not a fan of the Yangnyeom sauce (which was actually popularized by Pelicana), so got the soy garlic, which is also good. As soon as we sat down, we got a side dish of finely shredded cabbage. Orders are placed in the tableside kiosk, and I placed three separate orders: once for the chicken ($17), then for fries once I realized I had forgotten to order ($8), then for a pint of Goose Island draft ($7). After a short wait, the fries were delivered. They were the standard shoestring-cut fries (similar to Mcdonalds), and they were fine. But then we waited for a while. KFC is made to order, so knew there would be a wait. But when I realized a take out order taken after mine had been fulfilled, did I walk up to front to ask about my order. It felt as if the rest of the order had been somehow missed. The hostess was genuinely sheepish by the mistake (wherever it was made) and it went a LONG way to make our dining experience so much better.
