I took my wonderful girlfriend to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. We ordered as much as we could and were disappointed in the flavoring of most of the items. Specifically the cali flower, corn, kebabs, the duck special and the chicken tagine (wish just tasted like canned chicken soup.) The flavor just lacks depth in almost every dish, extra virgin olive oil can only take you so far. The naan with three dips was good, but even the bread was a little too dense and not bubbly. Three stars given because dessert was good. We had the tiramisu, limoncello sorbet. Service was average, ambiance was about average. The place is just average. read more

My wife and I had a great date night experience tonight at Boca Restaurant. Our Server (Sharika) was professional, courteous, and friendly. We asked her for dish recommendations and she shared with us the specials as well as some all time favorite dishes that customers have ordered before. When our food was delivered it was fresh and delicious. Everyone we talked to at the restaurant helped in our excellent customer experience. My wife and I came to Hickory tonight not knowing where we were gonna eat let alone do after dinner but our evening started out great when we chose Boca. GF and I came to Boca for dinner on her birthday. This was my first time going to the restaurant. We had reservations for 6 pm, showed up on time and were seated promptly. Our server showed up immediately bringing us water and taking our drink orders. When she brought the drinks (GF had a Blood Orange margarita, I had a glass of Pinot Noir, both of which were very good), we ordered food. If you've never been, the menu has a Mediterranean slant. We started with the tomato basil soup (which was excellent). We also had the Moroccan sliders, the calamari, sauteed mushrooms, and the sauteed shrimp. The food was good, service was prompt, the atmosphere was nice, and the bill was $112 including tip, which I didn't think was out of bounds. My overall rating is good, just not outstanding. Perhaps this just wasn't my favorite type of food, but I'm willing to go back and try some other different things from the menu. read more

First time visiting any tapas restaurant but had an interesting and flavorful meal. We were a party of 8 and decided in advance to order by couple, since our tastes and dietary requirements differed. I ordered cauliflower, blistered green beans, piquilloes and chicken tagine. My dining partner ordered wedge salad and tomato basil soup. Everything was well-prepared and presented well The highlights of our meal were the order of 3 piquilloes (red peppers with peels removed and stuffed with goat cheese), blistered green beans (generous serving with a spicy coating), chicken tagine (large serving not set up for sharing with very flavorful soup-like base topped with very tender shredded chicken), and wedge salad. The serving of tomato basil soup was very generous and tasted like fresh basil with a hearty tomato base. At first taste, it was exceptional (I'm not generally impressed by tomato soup), but after the first few spoonfuls, seemed pretty salty--three of us who tried it made the same observation). I probably wouldn't order the cauliflower again (it was fine, but there are better things on the menu). Although we didn't order dessert, several who had been to Boca before swooned over the pots de creme, intensely decadent chocolate pudding-like desserts with whipped cream on top. Others were pleased with the pecan pie and creme brulee with blueberries on top. One in the party ordered an amaretto sour, which wasn't on the menu, but was well-prepared, and a cappucino with a side of Bailey's Irish Cream. The rest of us had the bottles of water that were refilled throughout the meal (the still water that comes with the meals at no charge). The only less-than-excellent comment came from the folks who ordered the chicken breast. They said they found it a little underseasoned. The folks who ordered salmon loved it. Service was excellent, with the server making lots of clarifications and descriptions of the dishes. At the end of the meal, she also let us know that when we got the bill (on a hand-held device), a 20% tip would be automatically included, so at the point that the screen asked how much to tip, if we didn't to add more than the 20%, to select "no tip." I'm not sure if a party of less than 6 or 8 has an automatic 20%, but the service certainly warranted at least 20%. There was live entertainment, a group including a male and female singer, who were good, but made conversation a little harder. The parking lot was quite full (it was a Saturday night), and when we made reservations a few days in advance, the options were a little limited, so I'd recommend making reservations as far in advance as you know you're going. The decor inside has been accurately described by other Yelpers, so I won't comment further, but it's comfortable and upscale. I was really looking forward to boca, the reviews were good.So here we go. The decor is very pretty and cozy, I loved it!! The service was fantastic,very attentive & courteous. I'm a lover of tapas and the menu was very intriguing. I started with a Jasmine cocktail, very refreshing & lovely presentation. We got the naan with hummus it had a nice lemony flavor. Next up sliders they were sausage with Munster cheese & Dijon mustard on nice soft buns...but they were cold & the cheese wasn't melty nor was there enough mustard. Pomme frites next, nicely fried with ketchup & a mayo sauce, but they got cold quick. We got the roasted Brussel sprouts, they we tasty but again weren't roasted . It pains me to not give a higher rating because I think they have the potential to be great. If all the food was hot & "roasted" enough it would have been 5 stars. read more

After just two visits, Boca is easily my wife and I's favorite restaurant in Hickory. You get what you pay for in quality versus quantity. 9$ for three peppers stuffed with goat cheese, 14$ for three Moroccan sliders, and 11$ for a bowl of six garlic shrimp in a seafood broth with a few pieces of bread doesn't sound like a lot, but bite for bite is worth every penny. Their cocktails are prepared with the same attention to detail and quality as well. Service has been pleasant, polite, and prompt. You don't spend 10-15 minutes waiting for your order to be taken or between courses and the servers are knowledgeable about their menu and drink menu. Dessert was delicious as well. read more

My husband and I recently visited Boca to celebrate his birthday. We did have a reservation and wer actually seated us about 10 minutes early! We have been here about 6-7 times and it ALWAYS exceeds our expectations. We were always fans of Youssef 242, we loved the ambiance there for a special evening out. Boca's vibe is a little more casual, the service & food is still outstanding! I should mention that I have Celiac disease and there are several menu options available. I took six guests to Boca for a celebratory dinner. It lived up to my highest expectation. The restaurant is large, spacious and tastefully appointed. We were serenaded by a live musician playing Spanish guitar. His music added meaningfully to the experience. Our table ate dinner paced in three courses: vegetable tapas, protein tapas and finally paella. The best course was the vegetable tapas. They were delightfully unique and loved by all. Our favorited were: lentils & greens, Brussels sprouts and street corn. The meat tapas were also excellent: beef skewer, shrimp tacos and chicken Tagore. The paella was unremarkable. I expected chunks of the seafood, chicken and chorizo but it looked more like a blended rice casserole. I suspect that they designed the dish for rapid service rather than the classic low and slow method famous in Spain. Boca did not disappoint. I hope for a celebration and they delivered. read more

Food is good, but diners beware, the fillet is supposed to be boneless and later my $6,234 price tag for dental work, proved it is not. The owner could care less and is clueless to what they are serving. No telling what's in the other meals or items. Worst thing is once the owner was called to discuss, he could care less - no apologies, nothing, but running from responsibility. We used to eat there often, but haven't been back since this tragic experience. I'd go somewhere else where they have a better understanding of how to prepare food and how to treat customers.
