A taste of Columbia in Downtown Statesville, who knew?!? Well, I did kinda...I have passed this…read moreColumbian "bakery" for many years without a second thought and I sure could kick myself for not trying it sooner! The Columbian Bakery+Restaurant has operated in this same storefront for around 20 years but I have never stopped in. I am not particularly familiar with Columbian-style foods and I did not feel there was anything that I would like from their "bakery". Boy, I do not think I have ever been more wrong about anything in my life...memories of past boyfriends start to creep in slowly-haha! I am currently obsessed with Statesville's Columbian Bakery+Restaurant! Yes, I said it! Not slightly obsessed, completely obsessed! I have patronized this business twice this week already and I plan to go there again before the weekend is over! The food is amazingly and authentically appetizing! To date, I have experienced the yummy goodness that is their Beef Empanadas, Tostones, Maduros, and my current foodie crush, Pan de Bonos. Each and every food item is fresh made to order except of course, for the bakery items BUT the bakery items are fresh made daily. The Beef Empanadas are a little meat-filled hand pie and they are so delicious! The pie consists of a thin cornmeal-type crust wrapped around the meat filling then deep fried. The meat filling is finely chopped or minced beef with small bits of potato (another reviewer said, beans, idk which it is but they're delicious) mixed in. It sounds heavy but it is actually quite light because the consistency of the filling is so fine and the outer crust is so thin. These yummies are so good, you cannot eat just one! The Tostones are smashed and fried green plantains. These are a salty side which taste like potatoes and they pair very well with the empanadas. The Maduros are fried ripe plantain chunks. I have had these before at other Latin restaurants and I do love them! The maduros from Columbian Bakery+Restaurant did not disappoint! They are just as good as any I've had and maybe just a little better because they are so fresh when you get them! These are a sweet side with just a hint of tartness. They pair well with any of the spicy foods served at this restaurant but I always eat them as a dessert! My favorite, the Pan de Bonos, are a bakery item but I was lucky enough to stop by when pan after pan of these little delectable puff balls were coming out hot and fresh from the oven. Yesssss! Who doesn't love a light and fluffy cheese bread ball?!? Cheese and Bread! Sign me up every time! But not to worry these addictive little things reheat really well in the microwave. I know because I ordered a dozen on my last visit! I cannot wait to go back to this Columbian paradise right in the heart of Statesville and try out more of their food offerings! The Columbian Bakery+Restaurant is active on social media, both Facebook and Instagram, so check them out! Be forewarned, they post videos of their yummy goodness often! They, also, have an online menu app.colombianbakerync.com for your browsing pleasure. You're welcome! I think I see a trip to Downtown Statesville in your near future! @columbianbakerystatesville @downtownsvl #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocalbusiness #shopsmall #shoplocal #eat-local

I just love the partnerships that food trucks and breweries have established. Great for people like me who don't drink, but who are married/hang out with people who like to drink LOL. Gives me something to enjoy while they enjoy their draaaaanks. - Noms - I placed my order and they gave me a pager so that I could go back to our table inside while I waited. We ordered a variety of things to sample all the goodness! *Sàndwich "Gaucho" - my husband ordered this sandwich and I should have gotten it for myself too. This is on French bread, with tender piece of thin steaks, dressed with lettuce, tomato and their Chimichurri sauce and that sauce is money! This sandwich was my favorite out of all the things that we ordered and I'm not really a sando person. *Sàndwich de Milanesa con Lechuga y Tomate - I didn't want to order two of the same things, since I like to sample as many different things as I can. Also on French bread, there were thin breaded steaks (it must have been panko because it was nice and crispy), dressed with chimi-mayo, lettuce and tomato. The chimi-mayo mix did not have enough chimichurri to my personal taste so I took some of the Chimichurri sauce from the empanadas and spread it all over and that made the sando even better. So I suggest getting the extra chimichurri sauce. It's $0.50. *Papas Fritas Baires - No frozen fries here. French fries were fresh with generous amount of Chimichurri sauce and parm. Very flavorful! *Empanada de carne - very tasty! Tasted fresh and fried to order. *Flan casero con dulce de leche - The dulce de leche on top was rich and to die for! It was so, so good. My only feedback is that the flan part was a bit more on the eggy side, than the creamy side, if you know what I mean. Either way, I had no problems finishing it! -TLC- The lady who took care of us was super sweet. She made sure we had everything we needed and made any recommendations when asked. My bff and I's football teams were going head-to-head, so we decided this was the right time to go hard and order empanadas. Hello 25 chicken and beef empanadas delivered to my door in time for the game. We contacted them via Instagram, and they were very responsive. We set our delivery time, pre-paid for our order, and lo and behold a tray of empanadas at my door for game time. A tray full of empanadas was quite a beautiful site. They looked gorgeous- nicely shaped, fried, and flaky just waiting for us to dive in. You could tell these were made by someone that knows what they are doing. Yummy fillings on the inside, I think I had a slight preference for the beef, but both were tasty. Could of used maybe a bit more filling. Their signature sauce is quite tasty. I honestly am not sure what it is, but use it. We are sauce people, so it was gone long before all those empanadas. I think two containers would have been more suitable for a tray of this size. On the edge of the Greensboro and Summerfield border, near the PTI airport, lies a small restaurant with big flavor and big heart. This location has been many things in the past, but I am hopeful that Empanada Grill will last forever. The menu is very simple , but nobody needs to make complicated empanadas. I would rather a place do a few things well than have a wide variety of things and be mediocre. Empanada Grill is as far from mediocre as you can get. I opted for their empanadas undressed in the traditional chicken style. It came with a side of rice and beans. You got to choose between red or black beans, and white, yellow, or traditional rice. I went with the black beans and traditional rice. This was enough food for two meals. I received my food to go, as I had a practice to get to, but there is a variety of seating areas within to accommodate groups of all sizes. The black beans deserve a picture of their own because they are basically a full meal themselves. I ate half before I remembered to take a picture because they were so good. I would definitely bring the family back to this restaurant, as we all love empanadas. I would love to try the traditional beef next time. The worst part about this trip? My car smelled like empanada the next day and I had no more empanada to eat. But that's a problem that can easily be solved with a trip back to my new favorite empanada place.
