Been going around trying to find burritos within an hour radius of my general area, and I really, really wanted to like this place as it's the closest this far. So, I got a full-size carne asada burrito and it was a good burrito for sure - the pineapple habanero salsa was delicious, the carne asada was very flavorful. However, there were a couple pain points that kept me from escalating this burrito's status to "great". First, I would have loved it if the rice was a seasoned rice instead of the plain white rice that was there. Without any real flavor to it, it just felt like filler. Second, my burrito just wasn't balanced well. What I mean is when you get a burrito where almost every bite, you're getting a little of every ingredient. My burrito, however...well, one side of it was rice and black beans and the other side was where the meat resided - almost impossible to get the beans, rice and meat together in a bite unless I unhinged my jaw to get my mouth around the whole burrito. And I didn't even seem to hit the pineapple habanero salsa until about halfway down the burrito. I have a feeling I might enjoy a burrito bowl or nachos more, since the ingredients can be more easily distributed with one of those, so I may have to try that on another visit. read more

We stopped here while driving through North Carolina on our way back to the Charlotte area. I felt like Mexican food and this little place came up on Yelp. This is a "Chipotle" style place but so much better. I ordered the Roasted Pork Salad and chose my toppings. Everything was delicious especially the pork. My husband had a chicken burrito. A Morganton institution. Think of Chipotle, except homegrown ingredients and many more options. Always been fascinated by the different salsa flavors they have, but tread carefully if you're sensitive to heat I usually get the chicken salad, brown rice, with some corn, grilled peppers, etc and top it with chipotle Mayo. Very tasty and always enough to take back for a 2nd meal, so a good deal. I also get the Hella Yella dipping sauce, which is ghost pepper and mustard combined for a very spicy chip and taco dip. I know this place is currently only open on Fridays and weekends, but hopefully it can get to where it's open even more. It's always pretty crowded here. One heads up. I won't knock a star off because I love this place and eating outside, but it is next to the Case Farms chicken plant. May be best to choose your lunch outing on a day it's not windy. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Mountain Burrito! You can pick a burrito, tacos, nachos, or baked & they utilize local ingredients & prepare everything fresh daily for the array of toppings. My nachos were fresh fried & smothered in queso. I picked the very flavorful chicken as my protein. Then I went with black beans, green leaf lettuce, jalapeños, fresh pico, & sour cream. Each bite was a mountain-full burst of flavors in my mouth-perhaps how they got their very fitting name. My eating companion got tacos, and they come with chips & 1 salsa. We were looking for a place to eat after spending the afternoon hiking in the mountains and found this place highly rated on Yelp. We came in around 3 on a Saturday and there were a few people there. It's the same style of build your own burrito as Chipotle, but with way better selection. You can pick from a burrito, a naked burrito, and tacos. I went with a naked burrito (burrito bowl) with chorizo, steak, black beans, peppers and onions, zucchini, lettuce, shredded cabbage, jalepeño slaw, cheese, cilantro, chopped onions, pickled onions, guacamole, and fresh tomato pico. It was absolutely delicious. I've never been a huge fan of the fast food build your own Mexican chains, but this was so much better. The flavors and selection were great. I also tried some of the queso my friend got and it was really good. All of the burritos also come with chips which is really nice if you get a naked burrito. I got a naked burrito: rice was plain white rice that wasovercooked, black beans were cooked well but no seasoning, potatoes were delish, Im not sure how much jalepeno slaw was given to me but I had a hard time finding it, lettuce was fresh, guacamole was good, the pineapple salsa was just canned pineapple it seemed. Mountain Burrito is one of our favorite spots in town. You walk up to the counter and build your meal based on a wide variety of bases, meats (or veggies!), toppings, and salsas. Everything is fresh and bursting with flavor. I'm gluten-free and dairy dairy-free and can always find lots of options that work for me (and there are always plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day). Staff is friendly and helpful and overall it's a good value for the quality and quantity of food. My whole family can find something we all enjoy. It's a pretty no-frills place in general.
