No refills, no checking to see if everything is okay, no extra napkins, no to go boxes and wait and some more for your ticket. Has happened repeatedly, not a one time occurrence. Right next to 40 is a Mexican restaurant we decided to try out instead of our current local favorite, Las Salsas. I'll start by saying the wait staff was very attentive and worked very hard. It definitely was noticed they were busting tail since they stopped by the table often to make sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the Pollo Guerrero. Grilled chicken topped with Mexican sausage (chorizo) and cheese sauce. Served with rice, beans, and guacamole salad. It was very good and I was served enough to bring to work for lunch tomorrow. The salad was pretty low effort, but the actual entree was great. Final verdict, we enjoyed it and will return, but Las Salsas is still our favorite Morganton Mexican spot for now read more

This restaurant serves really good food. Menu is broad and service is quick. We have visited multiple times and haven't been disapointed. Wife prefers traditional entrees while I like to explore seafood and special pork dishes. We have found all to be excellent. They feature a sauce bar which is fun to explore. No stars! Couldn't post w/o a star. We were not greeted by any of the workers after we sat down. There was one guy who brought the chips&salsa and that was his whole job. Then there one server on the side we sat on was working the hardest. He didn't say a word to us. No drinks, hold on, nothing. He proceeded to cut all the lemons & oranges behind the bar and still didn't say anything to us. I approached him and He told me he would be there in a little bit while he had his back turned towards me and knife in hand. I feel that the salsa guy could have done that so that the server could actually serve. We just walked out. Not trying to say this place is racist, but none of the white people were being served in a timely manner. This was my second visit to this resturant. While eating my meal, I looked over and saw a ROACH crawling off the window ledge onto my drink cup!! I caught it in my napkin and gave it to the server, who passed it on to the manager. He told me he never had roaches before, and then contradicted himself amd said his CUSTOMERS bring them in. He offered me a discount, and then charged me full price. When I asked about the discount, he sighed and rolled his eyes and handed me $10. My order total was $47. He also argued with my daughter when she said the roach was a baby. He said no, it was an adult. He was a rude obnoxious man. Also, the bathrooms were in dire need if cleaning and repair. My last two visits suffered from very lackadaisical service, lukewarm/chilled food, and COLD chicken soups. Sad..... Oh yeah, this place. We found this restaurant using Yelp as we were on our way back home. El Paso had their Sunday afternoon-church folk rush and we waited as the staff tried to accommodate the hungry parishioners. We waited a while and was seated in a booth along side chip-eating patrons. We received our bowl and began digging in too. They have a salsa/hot sauce bar which I particularly loved. I didn't know what I was trying but really didn't care. Some were spicy, some were not, and some sauces were green. I almost filled my belly with chips alone. The meal came and we continued our feast. I see why people come to have lunch after church service. The burritos were fresh and filling, the tacos had high quality ingredients. The portions were ample and the sides were graciously given. Loved this Mexican establishment. I'll visit again when I'm on that side of North Carolina. read more

At 3pm on a Saturday afternoon waited 40 minutes for food with a mostly empty restaurant. It took us asking 3 times just to get a drink. Added a star because the food was good when we finally got it. If you've got all afternoon, maybe a good option. read more

This place was GREAT. They had fresh bean dip and nachos as soon you sit down. Beer was severed with an ice cold glass without asking. They had a salsa bar with like 12 kinds of salsa from fresh pico de gallo to creamy avocado salsa. the food was all fresh and very tasty. I had the chicken and shrimp fajitas and my wife had the cream chicken fajitas both came out sizzling and cooked perfect. Shrimp where not over done and popped in your mouth. El Paso is right beside another Mexican place, not sure how the other place is but dont think it will be open long with the quality and quantity this place has to offer. Our 3 year old slept the whole time in the large booth they gave us and my 9 month old loved the fried ice cream and avocado sauce. We will defiantly go back. We were driving by and needed to stop somewhere to eat. When we parked I thought it was a bit ghetto but let me tell you guys how surprised I was. My mom and I are pescatarian (we are transitioning to a more plant based diet) and since my friend wanted steak and something "spicy" we stopped by here. I automatically thought I was just going to have to settle with a salad Bcs I didn't think they would have many seafood options, or if they did, it was going to be really expensive. I WAS WRONG! Their menu has SUCH A VARIETY and a whole page on seafood. It is very reasonably priced and what was more astonishing was the size of the plates! They were very well served. You get complementary chips and two dips. One is a tomato based dip. And the other one was a bean dip. When I tasted the bean dip I was immediately concerned, since we don't eat meat, the taste of the beans was something similar that we used to make years ago where we would add chorizo to the beans and blend it. When I asked the waiter if they put meat in it he said no, then I specified if they added chorizo and he said they didn't. WHAT A RELIEF!! My favorite Mexican restaurant. We drive by about 10 Mexican restaurants to get here. Food is awesome and the salsa bar, oh yeah, it's good. Service is always good and the fish tacos hit the spot. I've had better mexican food at taco bell. I ordered the california style burrito, when my food came it was cold and very greasy, not to mention I found a long hair in my food. There weren't any drinks listed on the menu so I asked if there was sweet tea, when they brought my drink out it tasted like wet socks. Overall I do not recommend. read more

Dear El Paso, As a Tex-Mex deprived traveler from Chapel Hill NC, I was astonished to find your restaurant in a non-descript location just off Interstate 40. I walked in and was greeted by large letters on the wall declaring Bienvenidos Amigos (Welcome Friends)! My son and I sat down and within about a minute, were served a basket of chips, red salsa and warm bean dip! The waitress appeared another minute later and took our drink orders. I asked for salsa picante for the chips and she directed me to the salsa bar, which had at least 10 different kinds of salsa, plus roasted jalapenos and pickled red onions. I was in chip and salsa heaven. And that was just for starters. The menu was one of those grandiose affairs with probably over 100 items. We took our time and finally ordered dinner, which came in about 15 minutes, and was worth the wait. The sopa de mariscos was the real thing. Large chunks of seafood, including fish, scallops, shrimp in the shell, and a whole crab, cut up, and everything bathed in an incredibly rich and redolent red broth. I have sampled many Mexican seafood soups, and this was the best I've ever tasted. There was so much in it, we couldn't finish it and took the leftovers home in a quart sized container. We also ordered 'La Bandera', which consisted of a red, white and green (get it?) enchilada sampler: a beef enchilada in red sauce, a spinach enchilada in a white cheese sauce, and a green chicken enchilada in a chile verde sauce, with rice and beans. Each enchilada had its own unique flavor and texture. El Paso, I wish you would open a branch in Chapel Hill! read more

For a Mexican Restaurant in Western North Carolina, this is quite good. I have eaten here many times and really enjoy the carnitas. Huge Portions! Nice people friendly service. Portion sizes are cut in half on the weekends. I'm sure not many people know this. I am a frequent customer here but I've noticed that if i order my food to go or come in during the week it is double the amount of meat then it would be if you dine in on the weekend. Great mexican food. We hit this place on the way back from Raleigh, and were pleasantly surprised. I'm a native Californian, (and recent transplant to Asheville) so the bar is set pretty high when it comes to Mexican food, and the Al Pastor tacos were as good as anything back home.
