Growing up in California and having traveled to Mexico numerous of times, I was a little weary about how authentic this place would be, but boy was it good. The portions are huge and the prices are pretty cheap so that makes it worth a visit! They only serve beer and micheladas, no wine or margaritas. We were looking for somewhere to eat after going hiking in the area and found this place with good reviews on Yelp. We came in the afternoon and there was almost no one else there. We were seated right away. They gave us complementary bean dip and queso which was awesome. They also have a complimentary salsa bar with many kinds of salsa. I got the molcajete with steak and my husband got chef Ernesto's fajitas. Both were delicious! I was partial to the molcajete. The steak was cooked perfectly and the vegetables and pineapple salsa that came with it were delicious. It was a ton of food though. We could have easily split one of them. The only down side is that they were very slow to bring our checks when we were done eating. I would highly recommend giving this place a try! read more

My husband and I drive I 40 between Charlotte and Asheville quite often. For whatever reason a longing for Mexican food hits us about every time and we most often stop at El Paso, Exit 105 in Morganton. We missed our turnoff and the Yelp reviews for Jalapeno Fresh Grill helped me to the decision to stop here. What a good decision! It has been over a month, so I can't remember what we ordered, but I will say, great service, the food was beautifully plated and more than we had expected. Very nice warm atmosphere. We were looking for a spot to eat after visiting Linville Caverns and Falls and found this spot well-reviewed on Yelp. I had the molcajete, husband had the chimichanga and our little one had the kids bean and cheese burrito. The molcajete was HUGE and so tasty. It came with rice, a warm tomatillo sauce, corn cake, olla beans and gauc/sour cream and mango salsa. I think I have leftovers for the next three days... Husbands chimi was very unique - the shell's edges were all pulled up together and tied at the top. The presentation was unique and the taste was great! It came with black beans and a corn cake. The kids burrito was very large and good. It had whole beans and rice on the side, the creama sauce was very good and burrito itself was excellent. We didn't get our server's name, but he was super nice and funny....We will definitely be coming back when we're in the area again. read more

We were camping at Mountain Stream campground and wanted to eat some Mexican food so decided to try jalapeños. The salsa bar is the BOMB (try the Diablo salsa). I ordered the supreme California Burrito and my wife got the chimichangas. We were expecting your typical dish and man were we surprised. After reading the reviews decided to try it. Had lunch there today, excellent food. Extremely fresh, very flavorful, very authentic. Wife had the street tacos, I had a combination with chili relleno, taco, enchilada. All very good. Salsa bar was a nice touch, also the chips and bean dip (not that heavy duty refried beans, but more of a pinto bean, looser texture and more flavorful) Definitely give this place a try I don't think you will be disappointed.
