This is a dive bar with regulars sitting at the bar and playing pool, so don't expect a quiet environment, large menu or fancy drinks. The chicken is famous and it's for good reason. It is great broasted chicken and I love their Jo's. The chicken is not our favorite thing though. The steak bites are amazing! The menu is limited to things that can be broasted or deep fried. Always get ranch, for everything, it's yummy. Drinks are good. They are straight forward and come quickly. Bartenders are prompt and friendly. We are not regulars but don't feel unwelcome. Naturally we were told to come here for the fried chicken, which is really good! Initial thought was it needed a touch more salt but after trying it with the ranch, I understand now. More salt would have been TOO much salt at that point. Kudos to y'all! The JoJo's are what blew me away. Super soft inside, crunchy outside but very easy to eat, witchcraft I tell ya. I could eat those along to be honest. We ordered to go and went to the park down the road since we had our pup with us and weren't sure if it's dog friendly on the patio or not. I'm very torn by this review, because there is a lot of good at this restaurant, and a lot of not so good, and it's very hard to weigh the two and distill it down into a 5 point rating. I'll start with the good. This place is very busy and is a fantastic way to meet locals, and is one of the least cliquey bars I've ever been in. They have multiple seating areas, pool, jukebox machines, and an overall laid back, if busy, atmosphere. The menu is all fried, and they do a damn good job of it. They pressure fry their chicken which is pretty good. I wouldn't say it's the best chicken I've ever had by any means, but it's above average quality for sure, and definitely the best in Shelton. They also have the deep fried green beans which are my personal favorite, as well as mushrooms, fish, fries, steak strips, gizzards, and lumpia. If the smell of the state fair is your happy place - this bar will do it for you. They also make their own sauce and their ranch is absolutely divine. I would chug it by the gallon if I could, it is phenomenal. The prices are also pretty cheap overall, with two peoples dinner and drinks running (under $40 not including tip) normally for a couple rounds. The bathrooms have expensive toilet paper, which honestly should be a Yelp tag in of its own. Now, the not so good. While the atmosphere is friendly and laid back, I would feel comfortable saying that this is in spite of the service. Most of the servers tend to be very cold and hard to talk to, rushing clients to order and just generally not being super hospitable. They also often leave drinks empty and give orders to the wrong people, or forget to submit them at all. In their defense, they are always SUPER BUSY however and don't seem to have dedicated cooks and servers, something that would improve the flow a lot. The music is often extremely loud, and be it trolls or by design, has a tendency to switch from a mix of country, classic rock, and oldies to sudden death metal and screamo, and I've seen guests ask the staff to turn it off or down before. The bar has a very limited liquor selection and is mostly beer, and the liquors they do have seem purchased at random. Overall, it's not a horrible place to go for dinner and a drink and for the price you really can't beat it, but ultimately it's a locals working class person bar with modest food and beverage and typical local dive bar decor. I'll keep going here because it's decent and it's convenient (and my husband absolutely loves it there), but it's definitely not a destination restaurant, and that's ok. Places need local bars like this, and Bob's fits the bill. read more

We stopped at this dive bar to pick up some chicken for an early lunch. I neither did the ordering or paying, nor did I go inside. So not sure what exactly they had or how much it was. They're open pretty early - 6 am I believe. And I hope they serve chicken the whole time. But they do make it to order so when we got there, it took about 25-30 minutes for our food to be ready. You can probably order drinks to enjoy while you wait. And I think my SIL who did pick up the food, said they have some gambling in there also. We got a mix of fried chicken, chicken tenders, fries and jojo's. I think was my first time having jojo's - they are huge potato wedges - probably like a quarter of a giant russet potatoes. While I liked it, I think I could only have a few - too potato-y for me. I definitely had more fries. For the fried chicken - I really liked it. Came out hot and fresh and super crispy. Batter and chicken both seem to be pretty well seasoned. For the tenders - tenders aren't my preference compared to fried chicken, but had to try one. It was fine - I think white meat, less flavor on the chicken than the breading. Breading wasn't as crispy either and there seemed to be a lot of it with the ratio to the chicken. Probably good for kids but if you're fine with he bones, I recommend sticking to the fried chicken. read more

Bob's Tavern is famous for its chicken. They also offer boneless strips for those who don't like eating chicken on the bone. You'll also find several other menu items, like steak bites, gizzards, tater tots and Jo-Jo's, to name a few. It's the best chicken in Mason County. The owner is hands on and there every morning before the sun comes up preparing the chicken for the day. They often get busy at dinner time and as well on weekend nights as they have a really nice patio where customers can eat outside, listen to music or watch sports on the outside TV. If it weren't for the fact that they have some of the best fried chicken anywhere, after today I'd ever go back. Completely filthy sticky tables outside covered with ash and everyone out there was smoking. I get it, it's a bar and you have to smoke outside but it was a very nice day...serious let down and the feeling I got was they like it that way. The TV and the music were we equally way too loud and we never got asked if we wanted refills on the iced tea. I felt so out of place there in and amongst the regulars "I assume" that it was uncomfortable to just sit there as we waited for our chicken. Being a creature of habit, because I liked them in my previous review, I ordered the fried fish again. But, this time with the JoJos instead of the regular fries. I also ordered some of their onion rings. And of course, a pitcher of beer for my bro and I to wash everything down with. The food was as good as I remembered! We love to go to this place every time we're in Shelton for a fried food fest lol. It doesn't try to be anything it's not; it's a local tavern that happens to have great fried food. I think we've tried about everything on the menu with the exception of the gizzards (sorry-yuck IMHO) & everything is delicious! The fried chicken is my favorite- so moist & flavorful with a thin crispy crust- yum! Everything always comes out piping hot from the fryer. This time we also ordered the fish & chips- so good- nice big chunks of fish & crinkle fries. The chicken strips are so good & the prawns & mushrooms too. So if you want to splurge & have great fried food this is your spot! Grab a pitcher of your favorite beer- we got 1 of Spacedust IPA & 1 Budlight, they have a nice patio & plenty of room inside as well. I would give it 5 stars but they do cater to the regulars, lots of cigarette smoke & the music is a little too loud. read more

Bartender was very rude, did not bring our food at all, we were sitting at the bar even. She waited on all the other customers when we finally asked to get drinks, she said she had no frangelico, I pointed out the bottle she said, oh I guess we do, and walked away. I am embarrassed and ashamed to acknowledge this kind of service in my home town. Called to ask if they had a Happy Hour and was told that they do not have one but their prices were reasonable. So the Hubby and I decided to give them a try and boy we were not disappointed. There was a good selection of beers and wines. The bar food was exceptional, I mean who serves yummy fried gizzards anymore? Not your ordinary wings either, it was the WHOLE WING! BEWARE! BARMAIDS WILL OVER CHARGE YOU! I've lived in this town for decades and Bob's is hands down the place to go for local atmosphere and great chicken and joes. HOWEVER...We were there with a large group recently and a friend showed up said he cleared our tab for us. BUT WE HAD NO TAB AND WERE PAYING CASH AT TIME OF SERVICE! The barmaid took 28.00 from the guy. Once the shenanigans were discovered the tab clearer and the cash payer went in made the girl confirm payment for refund. Mistake? I would say perhaps however one of our group came in to pay their tab while this was going on and the other barmaid charged him 28.00 for one cheap 4.00 beer! She was caught red handed. Stopped in on a Saturday night based on a recommendation from a local, the place was decently busy with almost all of the main tables taken but plenty of stools available around the bar. Not my typical choice for dinner but we were too tired after a day on the lake to look else where. I ended up with the fried chicken and husband has the fish and chips. Overall, food was good, fresh, hot & super crispy with light batter. What else could you ask for? Doesn't make the list for a return visit but it was a worth while stop for some good dive bar style fried food. read more

Contrary to popular opinion, the bartender Dottie has *not* been there even longer, though she *has* been there for 30 years, and at 71, can still do a crackerjack job trading friendly barbs with the customers.
