The store is very crowded, as it's smaller and when there are a ton of people, it can being tricky to maneuver especially if you are looking to browse and if you have young visitors with you. The service, was ok. They were super busy and I'm sure it was stressful for them. One thing that caught me and my family off guard was the abrupt way our transaction was completed. The person was literally aggressively snatching the items to scan and jamming them into the bag. Once done, she pushed the bag towards us and yelled "next" to the customers behind us, I still thanked her and wished her a good day. It was not acknowledged....It felt odd and very cold compared to our experiences we have had at the factory store. Definitely prefer the other location and the customer service there. Again, it could have been because they were busy ...but it didn't set right with us, especially my little niece, who is 4 yrs old, who picked up on the vibe. I would have given the store 5 stars if it wasn't for that interaction. Still love their candy, especially the maple malt balls.

Such was the case with Wilbur's of Maine Chocolates. Don't remember now where I read about this place, but some blogger mentioned them with high praise, so on my list this place went. We made a point to stop by Wilbur's on our way to Boothbay Harbor (also in Maine for those who don't know), and we are so glad we did. This is primarily a candy shop... but it is so much more. They have other food items, home decor, gift items, and of course, lots of chocolate. We bought a couple of stuffed animals for our grandchildren, as well as some flavored sauces in a jar (to be poured over ice cream), and we couldn't leave without buying some chocolates ! We tried some chocolate-dipped orange rind and a few truffle flavors as well. Everything was very fresh and tasty. If I'm ever fortunate enough to be in Maine again, I'm sure we will stop here again.

Well, stop I did, to see if they had a gift for a friend's birthday. First, I love any store that smells like balsam as you walk through the door. The scent makes me feel like a kid again. I'm not from Maine (have been here long enough to feel at home), but as a kid we used to drive here from Ohio and spend a few weeks going up and down the coast. The smell of balsam reminds me of these trips. Second, I was shocked by the variety they had. Maple syrup, Maine souvenirs, crafting supplies, wooden figurines, and antiques. The have a sign stating that they "glue chairs". I didn't know that was a thing, but apparently, it is... They also sell wreaths and Christmas trees during the appropriate season. And finally, the owners were as nice as could be. They had out hot chocolate for the kids, and they wrapped my little gift up neatly. This little shop is well worth the drive into town because of how darn cute it is!
