Who knew that adding egg yolks to this American classic would change my life forever?!?! The tiny family owned creamery/farm stand is located on Route 302 in Casco, Maine. Every time I visit my summer home this is the first stop I make. Not only is the custard delicious and fresh (new batches made daily) Raymond, the owner is always there to welcome you with a BIG smile. In addition you will find fresh produce hand picked from their farm as well as some other baked goodies. My final thought... run don't walk!

He knew I loved chocolate eclairs, and told me this is the spot to go! His words and enthusiasm about this bakery did not disappoint! I bought one eclair and took a bite of it in the car and had to run back in to buy one more for the road for when I got home later. It was perfect. I will have to go back and try some other desserts or have him bring them to me next time he's down my neck of the woods. They have a great wide range of desserts to choose from and I guarantee you will be satisfied.

Well, Hodgman's is permanently closed now and Ruby Rose became The Log Yard, but it's just as good as the former business that occupied the same space! If none of the special flavors look interesting (rare), sweet cream with a mix-in is always a great fallback! I always look forward to visiting The Log Yard when I visit my parents in Maine.

We went with a non-traditional theme which included cupcakes a wedding topper cake for the dessert. We chose Grant's Bakery to do the topper cake and worked with Gary, one of their cake makers. Gary walked us through their process, portfolio and what options were available to us. He understood our theme and produced a white and gold themed topper cake which was spot on. My wife LOVED it and it. Unfortunately my wife and I were not able to have the cake for our wedding reception as we had to cancel due to a major incident impacting several of our Maine towns, but Gary was patient and willing to still make the cake despite their store being shut down for 2-3 days due to the incident. We pushed the due date for the cake to be ready, out a few days and when my wife picked it up, she LOVED it and complimented him several times on how he hit the theme with colors and the simplistic design. We were not looking for a large elaborate cake and despite the simple design, it exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Grant's Bakery for your wedding cake needs!

They used to have an option where you could get your ice cream on a brioche--it would be cool to see that return someday. Remember to bring cash as they are cash-only, and bring your patience as there are often hordes of children trying to figure out what they want (and what they can afford) while they order.
