    Store front!

Cute little bakery that I made sure to visit this morning because my daughter and I wanted some yummy, local donuts! Labadie's was a great pick and they run some amazing specials. When I walked in, they still had all their Friday special posters hung up but I made sure to ask about todays special and it was BOGO on donuts! Amazing. Donuts were great, and the cream filling they use in their vanilla cream was my favorite! I went around 10-10:30 in the morning and they were already out of some flavors so be sure to go early if you want full picking options. This bakery is just that as I didn't see any tables or anything inside. Just grab your donuts and take them with you. And bring cash as its cash only and you'll want to be prepared when you stop in. I love having local bakeries to visit and support! Definitely suggest going here whenever in the area or in need of some tasty pastries!

Tucked into downtown Lewiston, Labadie's Bakery looks like many other small businesses. It is the state of Maine's best bakery for whoopie pies according to my friend. I wouldn't be one to discern a good from a bad pie never having had one before but I did enjoy my first experience with the states official desert and the charm of the baker.

Okay, I admit it, I'm from away so maybe I don't have the same obsession with a certain regional donut chain as the locals. As a West coaster visiting New England it has been challenging to find alternatives to the salty, often oily donuts that are popular here. Labadie's is a wonderful exception. They have a great selection and donuts they sell are closer to the style you might find in LA or Seattle. In addition, the counter staff are friendly and helpful. Be sure to bring cash, as Labadie's does not take credit or debit cards.

We went with a non-traditional theme which included cupcakes a wedding topper cake for the dessert. We chose Grant's Bakery to do the topper cake and worked with Gary, one of their cake makers. Gary walked us through their process, portfolio and what options were available to us. He understood our theme and produced a white and gold themed topper cake which was spot on. My wife LOVED it and it. Unfortunately my wife and I were not able to have the cake for our wedding reception as we had to cancel due to a major incident impacting several of our Maine towns, but Gary was patient and willing to still make the cake despite their store being shut down for 2-3 days due to the incident. We pushed the due date for the cake to be ready, out a few days and when my wife picked it up, she LOVED it and complimented him several times on how he hit the theme with colors and the simplistic design. We were not looking for a large elaborate cake and despite the simple design, it exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Grant's Bakery for your wedding cake needs!

SPüN does a lot of variety of custom order cakes and they're so nicely done. My first opportunity was my SO had actually ordered a green tea cake -- it was so good I couldn't stop shoveling the buttercream into my mouth. This year I opted for a Boston cream pic cupcake selection for the Boston cream pie lover in my life. The inside was a yellow cake base with the standard Boston cream in the middle and a hardened chocolate shell over cream on top. I made a special request for some lettering and they came packaged in a box that allowed for complete stability of the cakes. I accidentally left them out in a cold area prior to serving but they turned out totally fine! I would have normally done a regular Boston cream pie but circumstances made cupcakes an easier option. Will be trying the full cake next time. Definitely recommend if you're in the area -- ordering, customizing, payment, and pick up were all insanely easy.

THESE ARE THE BEST CINNAMON ROLLS I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE (So please ignore anything I've said stating otherwise that was written before this review was.) I had been warned that these were everything and more, and that still did not prepare me for how epic they were. They're the perfect balance of both dense and yet they melt-in-your-mouth; the "icing" (whatever notion you have of icing, throw it away because that's not what this is but a word hasn't been invented yet for whatever is going on with these buns) is sticky and creamy and has a little hint of citrus. And I am not sure I can never eat another cinnamon roll again, because these have spoiled me forever (I was swooning so much the first time we had them that my partner let me finish his as well!). Also: their frittata? I haven't had anything that good since living in Spain. Big, filling wedges of layered egg, potato, onion, and veggies. I'm hoping this will always be available vegetarian! Also; I ate it cold. And with my hands like it was a slice of pizza. That's the kind of monster I am, but it worked out deliciously! Spün you have IMMEDIATELY become one of my favorite food places in all of Maine. Can I make my holiday order for a half dozen cinnamon rolls and veggie frittata now?!
