My husband and I went to Bobs Giant Burger after he went with his friends for the first time. We went at lunch time but not really a lot of people there. My husband asked for a bacon wrapped hotdog with extra mustard only. I got the cheese steak as the burgers they were cooking behind them were not super appealing. We got fries and drinks.. waited.. then our food came out in to go containers.. which was odd as we never asked for to go. All the paper bags out food were in were wet and falling apart.. fries were soggy.. my husband hotdog (in photo) had all kinds of stuff on it he didn't ask for and no mustard.. my cheese steak had no cheese ( ordered extra) and was so soggy I couldn't pick it up to eat it. Here's another classic burger joint in Motown. It doesn't look like it from the outside, being part of a newer shopping center at the foot of Scenic Drive. The fun starts when you enter. Checkerboard tile, both stools and booths, completed jigsaw puzzles of classic cars on the wall. All of the background music was released since 2000, so that part is not retro. Fun, casual vibe. Employees look happy. It feels and looks like pre-2020, which is significant coming from this formerly long-time Bay Area resident. We visited Bob's a few days after the goons announced that C19 mandates are semi-officially lifted, but private businesses were allowed ("urged" would be a more fitting word) to keep everyone masked and isolated. Thankfully, Bob's blew the CDC opinions off and made it a free restaurant. No, the food isn't free, but it is well-priced. My double-deck Western Bacon Cheeseburger meal was $13, and that's well priced. And such a tremendous taste, with the bacon, onion rings, and sauce giving it a strong cowboy taste. Be warned that it will fill you up more than most half-pound burgers. The Hunny also got filled up with her regular cheeseburger, the girl not so much with her grilled cheese. They loved their meal too. The Sno-White Drive-in is close by. I haven't eaten there, can any Yelper do a comparison? I found Bob's Burger to be better than the A&W at 14th & G. If you're a burger lover, Modesto has a lot to choose from, and Bob's is one that should be checked out, maybe becoming a regular for you. read more

I also asked for the garlic fries, they were spicy from the ton of garlic but they weren't soggy and it's probably not too bad for your immune system either. We just recently moved to modesto and are trying out new places . The service was okay. The man at the front taking the order was humble he was okay. There were 3 workers . The food was okay, the fries were cold and asked to change them and they gave me the same fries again just added more to the basket and the girl taller girl gave me the fries and like threw the basket on the table. The burger was cold but I didnt want to go return that because I was embarrassed. The only thing that was good was the cheese steak my daughter got. I just recently tried Bob's a few months ago and was initially impressed. I don't know what happened today but it was awful. I had ordered two cheeseburgers, an order of fries and an order of onion rings. I took my first bite and thought it didn't taste right. My daughter then tells me that her cheeseburger tasted off. I'll start with the good. The burger was awesome. I had the bacon jalapeño Swiss and every bite was amazing. That is what is most important. I don't care for their fries. As far as everything else, I look into details. I loved the pictures on the wall with all of the classic cars. Onto some negatives, it was quite warm inside. Felt like 80. It wasn't comfortable at all and I would never eat in there again. They charge like 4% extra for using a card. I noticed the little sign and said to the lady taking my order that there is an extra fee isn't there? She said no. I had thought about going to the car to get cash because I'm trying to pinch Pennie's just as much as they clearly are. When I get my receipt, it was about 4% more than the advertised price. I don't like that. The price listed should be the price you pay regardless of payment method. I still tipped despite the total being like $16. That's the next problem. $16 for burger, lousy fries and soda feels steep. There are no napkins on the tables but they do give you a few when you pick up your food. There are no paper towels in the bathroom after you have washed your hands. No point of even washing your hands if you are just going to be touching a door knob being touched by many others who might not have washed their hands. I know the business is trying to make it and survive so I guess I understand the cut backs everywhere. I was generous giving 4 stars. Next time I'll simply order a burger and take it with me and pay in cash. read more

We used to love it here, but last night will be the last unfortunately. The service is good, no issue there. I'm sad to have seen the prices raised so high! One burger we got was $14, a double western I think it was. We did not customize this burger, just ordered from the menu. Everything we ordered is actually cheaper on door dash. That burger, a double no cheese, chili fries, and wings was $38. The burgers were also dry, which is not common. I'm sad to see the prices going up and quality going down.
