We stopped in around 9:45p for a late snack after a wedding reception . I got a hamburger and it was absolutely delicious! Super fresh and hot, the fries were yummy too! My family and I stopped here for lunch on our way to visit family and I have to say I would never stop again! The food was not good, service was just ok and the price was crazy. Passing through town and wanted to stop here at Big Boy since we don't have any back home. We ordered breakfast plates and coffee. The food was pretty good and the service was fairly fast. Only issue was the waitress didn't get everything we ordered (but at least we weren't charged). By the time she came by we were done eating. Went in for lunch with my 11 year old, 7 year old, and husband. When asked if there were any kids under 10, I said yes one. But then asked if my son could still eat off the kids menu (because the only reason we even eat at Big Boy is for the Kraft Mac n Cheese). She responded with a flat out "no." Seriously. She said there's Mac n cheese on the adult menu, but not Kraft. Anyone who has picky kids will understand the difference. I tried to laugh it off and bargain with her, but it was still met with a flat out "no." So we left. If I'm going to listen to my kids whine because they can't get Kraft Mac n cheese then I'm going to do it at a restaurant that I actually enjoy. My advice is, tell them they are under 10, no matter if they are or not. read more

NOT the Big Boy I remember. Average burger, soggy cold fries and onion rings. Stale cake under the hot fudge and ice cream. Order wasn't right either- if we hadn't checked it we would have been missing sides. The fish was the only saving factor out of the order - that was good but they missed the extra tartar sauce too. The best Big Boy you can find. The waitstaff is friendly and the food is always good. They also offer more for the breakfast buffet than any other Big Boy that I've been to, as eggs from the kitchen and your choice of toast are included in the price. If you aren't in the mood for the buffet, I recommend the make-your-own omelet with extra crispy hash brown. For lunch the tuna melt is my go-to choice. This was a very nice place for breakfast after camping at the nearby state park. They had a gluten free menu for me, and our server was very willing to help make sure everything was done right. I had stopped in with my brother and niece on our way home from visiting family. I talked my niece into trying my favorite sandwich, the Slim Jim. Unfortunately, it was awful. They used the hard stalk part of the lettuce and the pieces of lettuce were so huge they were hanging out the sides of the sandwich. It tasted awful. i think it was the lettuce that ruined it. I had to stop another server to have them let our server know to please bring my salad BEFORE my dinner came. She apologized and said she didn't realize I wanted it before my meal. Not sure what it is about Big Boys in the UP. Host staff seem cold and unwelcoming, seem to regard you as an inconvenience. Wait staff on the other hand seem to be much better though - or at least mine were. I stopped for dinner my first night in town later in the evening. First and foremost I was delighted that they have Pepsi products. And the moose out front is fantastic. Not sure what time they close but they were breaking down the salad bar around 8:30ish. Was surprised at the price of a cup of soup but they were generous and filled past brim. I misunderstood and thought it was broccoli cheddar but it was actually cream of broccoli. It was okay but broccoli was undercooked. Fries were not my favorite. Chicken sandwich was good but probably could have been cooked a little longer for my liking. Was offered a drink refill as well as dessert. I'll always take refill but reluctantly turned down dessert. Grabbed some souvenirs and checked out with my waitress, Penny I believe. Had a nice conversation about work ethic of young kids. I returned the next morning for breakfast. Another cold, standoffish feeling from host staff. Took a few minutes to be waited on - evidently they didn't tell the waitress. She was great, Kathy I believe. I have no shame - I ordered the Oreo pancake breakfast. And I enjoyed them so much! I didn't want the sausage so they gave me extra bacon. Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish the pancakes as I was stuffed with only 9 bites left. Overall a generally pleasant experience. Get the Oreo pancakes! And try the bacon and honey mustard chicken sandwich but with a burger instead of chicken and American cheese instead of Swiss - taste sensation! The people at this location were absolutely some of the nicest people and staff we've ever met anywhere!!!! We had a flat the previous day but everything was closed. While eating breakfast, the entire staff went above and beyond to find a garage the would repair the tire for us. And now for the food !!! Every single item was fresh and awesome!!! The surprising thing on the buffet was cold chicken and fish which was out of this world !!!! The fruit tasted extremely fresh too !!! Thanks again to the entire staff !!! Food was okay, service, not so much. I am very disappointed with the service at this Big Boy. We were given the bill when we received our water along with the napkins. The only other time we seen our server was when our food was delivered. We had to wave down another server to get condiments. She was still there when we left so it wasn't a shift change. Even paying the bill we weren't asked how our meals were or how about a thanks for stopping in. Pretty much got the feeling of give us your cash and go. I travel a lot and dine at a variety of places. Big Boy has generally been a place where you can expect a certain standard to be met, but not all are alike. The Big Boy in Manistique Michigan is exceptional among chain restaurants. I generally stop in for breakfast at least once or twice during each season of the year as I cross the Upper Peninsula. I've enjoyed the breakfast bar as well as other breakfasts from their menu. The place is always clean, the service exceptional. On my most recent visit (shortly after New Years) I found the waitress to be exceptionally polite and attentive to my needs as well as those of other diners, her demeanor cordial to all. She offered to provide a coffee for me "for the road" and after paying the bill I forgetfully turned to go and she called me back, reminding me of my coffee. I appreciate those kinds of small things when people are willing to make an extra effort on behalf of their customers. It makes me want to return. Thanks for small kindnesses. read more

Today's lunch was awful. It took forever, our waitress Had the worst attitude. We sent back our blt sand which twice bec the bread was burnt and when they brought it back all they did was flip the sand which over and slap a new piece of bread on top. When we looked for some help from the manager we were again disappointed. The food was typical big boy food but the service was so awful all the way from the manager down the chain to the waitresses. They take your order on an iPad which seems so cool- but it's not effective- there clearly needs to be more communication and less technology...for goodness sake- it's big boys- it's always supposed to be the same and dependable!!! This one in manistique needs attention- bec customers have choices and expect a much better level of customer service!!! We will not return here and we will also tell our friends not to try it when passing by...it's not worth the rudeness!! read more

Stopped in the evening for a late breakfast..BIG mistake! Hash browns were VERY dry, over done, butter didn't even help them. Must have been left over from A.M. breakfast, not fresh at all! Ham slice was the same condition..dry, not juicy at all, leftover too probably. Hubby ordered a steak and egg meal, it came on a VERY small plate, that he couldn't even try to slice anything, without food falling off. The cashier asked how was the meal..I told her everything! All she could say was the steak good..no I'm sorry, will take some $$ off...nothing. Seen the cook(a young kid just out of high school), in the kitchen talking away about what his plans are for the summer. His mind was somewhere else, not serving GOOD PRESENTABLE food.
