He doesn't upcharge just because its a nice vehicle like the franchise auto shops will do. Wow, I have never been yelled at and sworn at and insulted by a business owner. I took my car in because the check engine light came on. They told me my oil was dirty and that could be the problem. (my oil had just been changed 4,000 miles ago and it's good for 10,000) But I thought they knew what they were doing. Long story short, Bob's put in the wrong drain plug and oil was leaking from my car. So I had to get a new oil change. When I asked for a refund all I got was argued with, yelled at, sworn at and insulted. He told me I was the rudest person he had ever talked to and do I like to "bitch" a lot to people. When I asked Bob why he was swearing at me, he said he wasn't. He couldn't remember what he had said 20 seconds before. There were several more curse words. I was in shock. Huge unexpected community outpouring of Bob's automotive and his dishonest business practices, over charging thousands of dollars for minor repairs, and abusive to customers who don't fork over the cash. I was shocked to see nearly 40 replies have very similar experiences at Bob's Automotive. He is saying that I'm a bold faced liar and got caught in a lie which is entirely untrue and seemingly habitual for him to lie and cover his terrible behavior. He has threatened, intimidated, cussed at and harassed his customers for expressing the desire for second opinions. He has caused vehicles to need additional repairs for the sake of more business. He "repaired" 4 big things on my classic car that needed to be repaired by a different mechanic after I already paid Bob to do it and in that NextDoor post you see it said several times by others. Walked in there for the first time because I needed some oil for my car. I opened the door, walked in, looked around for a minute. The man and woman behind the counter were working on their computers. Neither of them looked up at me or spoke to me until I started to walk out. All I needed was some oil and they were apparently too busy to: 1. Greet me 2. Ask me if I needed help 3. Be friendly 3 strikes and you're out in my book. They only asked me if I needed something when they realized I was leaving. It was a little creepy because their shop is so small so I know they knew I was there. I was about 10 feet from them. I went here a few months ago to get my car checked out because it was making a weird sound and not shifting right. They said they couldnt find anything wrong with the car and charged me $70. I later went to aamco and they did a FREE check and informed me the car has an oil leak, the shift cable is loose, amongst a few other things wrong with the car. First off, their mechanic is a great guy. I needed help with some pesky bolts on my tow hooks, he helped me out free of charge. The owner on the other hand, is a prick. I have a Borla muffler on my truck that I wanted swapped with a different muffler (keep in mind, it's dumped right after my muffler so it's an extremely easy job for someone with tools). So what did he say? I can't help you if you don't buy a muffler from me. "It's not a good way to do business, now get out of my shop". I'm sorry, what did you say? Not a very good way to earn a reputation. The guy's an asshole. Do yourself a favor and go to another shop. Called the next closet small shop and they welcomed me with open arms. I am a 72 year old woman who has been taken to the cleaners by many mechanics thru the years. I was very sceptical when a neighbor recommended Bob's. Man was I surprised to receive outstanding service and professionalism from this antiquated little shop. Work was completed earlier than estimated and BELOW estimated price. My daughter had her car towed in because it was running very rough at idle. She was called in the afternoon and informed that it needed an oil change, an oil sensor replaced and ignition coil replaced. She was told this would cost 400.00 and fix the problem. She told Bob she just had her oil changed last month and he told her it was dirty and low and they had already done it. The oil change sticker was in the window for them to verify. She had just checked the oil and it was in the normal range. She told him to wait on repairs until she talked to me her father. I did a quick check of the cost of the coil and it was 59.99 and the sensor she had already bought and was in the glove box... I called him to ask some questions about the repair and right away he was defensive. I told him she had just had her oil changed last month and he said that was something they do to start with if it is low and dirty. I did not argue with him and then asked about the other issues which he restated to me that it needed a ignition coil and the sensor replaced. I said to him that 400 seem expensive for these items at which time he said will push the car out into the street and you can come pick it up and pay for the diagnostics. He then hung up on me without letting me say anything else. I went to pay the bill and he shoved the keys at me. When I said his customer service was lacking and that people have the right to question the cost of repair and consent to what is being done. As in having the oil changed without asking.... He told me to leave at which point I did. I am a La Center resident and have been for 10 years and want to give my money to local businesses but stay away from this one! I went and bought the ignition coil, new spark plugs and wires and replaced them in about 15 minutes. Replaced the sensor in another 15 minutes. This did not make the car run any different so not sure what they would have hit my daughter with next as an expense. read more

My 1978 Ex-postal jeep converted to an ice cream truck and painted a Canary Yellow which has been a sight around Ridgefield, Woodland, La Center and sometimes Salmon Creek these past few years! The problem has been in the overall jeep's engine running without missing, sputtering or simply trouble starting. and the most annoying is her just quitting while out on the route [ice cream] After various service's and mechanics have looked at her I stumbled on Bob's on the recommendation of a friend, Bob's discovered the reasons for failure which was a faulty coil wire and a very dirty carburetor. If I could give them no stars I would! I have taken my car to Bob's several times to have the oil changed, but the last time they did not lube the gasket on the oil filter and I had to have my car towed to a shop for repair. At the shop it took two mechanics to remove the dry sealed oil filter because it was installed wrong and way too tight. I went back to Bob's with the tow bill, the mechanic printout that stated the issue as well as the oil filter that they damaged to let them know about this because I don't want anyone else to have to experience this. I talked with Bob and he became defensive, raised his voice and was yelling at me and then proceeded to bad mouth the shop that I went to in order to resolve the issues. I had to ask Bob several times to stop yelling at me. Bob talked down to me and was very insulting to me. Bob told me that this happens and that it is common for them to have to use a hammer and chisel to remove the oil filter. Then the lady that works there got into the conversation and blamed me for doing something to the filter. I let them know that I was not here to cause any problems, but that I just wanted to make them aware of what happened in hopes to prevent it in the future. I'm no expert, but I have changed my own oil several times and I have also taken my car to several shops to have it done and I have never had to or ever seen a shop use a hammer and chisel. I understand that shops get busy and sometimes mistakes happen, but I am just astounded by the manner in which I was treated. Once I got to the shop, they got my car in within 10 minutes and figured out what the problem was. I stopped in this morning to meet the owner of Bob's Automotive and introduced myself as someone new in town and told him hat I was looking for someone to do a repair for my GMC Denali which has a parking brake that is stuck. I asked him how much he thought that might cost and he gruffly told me that he had no idea what that might cost. I was surprised as I had done my research on GMC common issues for this problem and it seemed pretty clear that it would require replacement of the brake cable and told him I just wasn't capable to doing that myself and needed help and wondered what that might cost. I asked him what his hourly shop rate was and he told me. He informed me that I couldn't trust anything on the internet and got very defensive and angry sounding with me that I would bring up my research about the issue and when I told him that I felt he wasn't being very nice to me he got really angry and started yelling at me. Another customer walked in as he was venting his frustrations at me in a raised voice telling me he could not give me any kind of idea of what it would cost without having the vehicle in to look at as it could be a more serious issue and possible even be a manufacturing defect as he had never seen that kind of problem with a GMC Denali. I said well couldn't you at least give me some kind of scenerio as I am a single woman trying to do my best to get information.......or can you not at least give me some kind of idea of how you go about giving an estimate. I then decided it best that I leave as I have been having a rough time lately and was afraid I might cry in front of him. Not exactly the small town welcome I was hoping for in establishing trust with a local business as a single woman in need of ideas of costs of repairs for her budget.
