He smelled it in my purse on my first visit and since then, I try to have one available for him every time. The shop is a little off the beaten path just off of Old Portland Road in St Helens, OR. Really kind of easy to find. You just have to know it is not going to be directly off of Hwy 30 but not far off. Joe is a young, small business owner. Very polite and very knowledgeable about my car. I watched as he asked me what the trouble I was having, he listened to my car, smelled it and observed and would take the vehicle for a test drive before coming up with a logical diagnosis. He has 1 other mechanic, Eric, equally as savvy with cars as I could tell. I don't think Joe realized just how much I was watching how he and Eric operated. I am usually very skeptical about price gouging and being taken advantage of because I am a woman, so I watch like a hawk. They are very happy to answer my endless questions in a way that makes sense to me and makes me confident they know what they are talking about and are not being deceitful in any way. I have never felt ripped off or taken advantage of and I have been going to him for 2 years now. This is very important to me as, I feel I am an independent, intelligent woman. They answering my questions and being up front about the procedures which can be like a doctor, trial and eliminating the possibilities in order to fix the more complicated issues. All which made sense to me. Yes, once I had to go through the line of possibilities (3) for a multi procedural fix and it turned out was the last item that fixed the problem. Joe was honest with me that if this last fix doesn't fix the problem even he would be stumped. Good thing it was the fix. Oh, and the price with labor did not put me into sticker shock. Phew! I also at first, would double check with my brother-in-law who was an out of state auto mechanic as well. When conveying to him how Joe worked and told him procedures in which Joe used said he would have used or advised the same things. There it was, confirmation. Now, I don't call my brother-in-law for confirmation anymore. As far as I was concerned, Joe has proven himself with me.

Everything was easy to break loose and remove ( I had just done my axles the weekend before). They charged me for 3 hours of labor, but got the work done in 45 minutes, I'm not upset about that. I'm upset with the fact they left both of my inner tie rods loose, and outer tie rod locking nuts were not seated onto the outer tie rod. They rushed the job and did it incorrectly. Never again will I let them do work on my cars again. The poor installation could have resulted in a loss of control and steering. Next time I'll just bite the bullet and do the work in the rain. Poor quality work with over priced prices.

I made an appointment and dropped off the truck. I was told they'd have information by EOB the next day. Two days after that, called, only to be told they hadn't looked at it but they definitely would that day. No news for several days (it had been close to a week at this point), called, it had been driven by a mechanic but they still hadn't looked at it. I went to pick it up September 1st since nothing had been done, the onsite mechanic was working on what I believe to be their personal Ford Mustang. I asked for my keys and was informed that I'd need to pay for the diagnostic work. They didn't do any diagnostic work. A mechanic drove it and that was it. They may have pulled the code but I had already done that and told them what it was when I dropped off. The office staff person called the owner because I didn't want to pay...owner would not budge. I paid $150 for diagnostic work that was never completed. The communication was poor; I always had to call for updates, only to be given promises that were never kept. It was one thing to deal with deal with the squirrely promises being made about actually finding out what was wrong, another to have to initiate the contact constantly, but the final straw was forcing me to pay for diagnostics that were never completed. Had staff said, "Hey, I know you made an appointment, but we aren't going to be able to look at this for two weeks" I might have been mollified. Or, "We don't have time to work on this" or anything, really, it would have helped.

They charged me to look at it and told me my car had a blown transmission and would cost $12,000 which to me seemed extremely high (the car is a Subaru) I could not afford that and the quote seemed quite high so I had my car towed home and had it sit until I could get the money for a transmission. I brought it to another shop and told them the information I was given but when the other shop looked at my car they told me it was only the transfer case a much easier fix. So reeds would have charged me an exorbitant amount for a misdiagnosed problem....crazy I would avoid reeds automotive at all costs!!!

This previous time I came into Reed's, I got my car back with a problem grille and a large scratch on the hood. I then waited multiple hours to hear back about what they are going to do for me at the woodland location. They then told me to head home after waiting multiple hours because they needed to review the footage and told me they would let me know Monday. It is Monday, and I have yet to hear back. I'd recommend looking elsewhere for a solid mechanic that specializes in European cars, as I've had horrible luck with both my cars while taking them to Reeds. Arron is a great front end receptionist and is always looking to help, but I can't say the same about the technicians or whoever's actually working on my cars. I've provided photos of the damage below. I've had other issues with them previously, such as incorrect tire pressure put in my TT's tires (it was a front wheel drive, ideally front tires would have 3 psi more than back tires, but they put the same air in all 4 when I didn't request them to) and I just found out they didn't put the tire valve cap back on my rear passenger side tire of my BMW when I took it in a couple weeks ago. I've given them the benefit of the doubt, but continue to run into problems associated with Reeds, and them not calling me back about the topics I discussed was the icing on the cake.Little things like this make it difficult to trust a mechanic that should be taking proper care of your car when working on it.
