He smelled it in my purse on my first visit and since then, I try to have one available for him every time. The shop is a little off the beaten path just off of Old Portland Road in St Helens, OR. Really kind of easy to find. You just have to know it is not going to be directly off of Hwy 30 but not far off. Joe is a young, small business owner. Very polite and very knowledgeable about my car. I watched as he asked me what the trouble I was having, he listened to my car, smelled it and observed and would take the vehicle for a test drive before coming up with a logical diagnosis. He has 1 other mechanic, Eric, equally as savvy with cars as I could tell. I don't think Joe realized just how much I was watching how he and Eric operated. I am usually very skeptical about price gouging and being taken advantage of because I am a woman, so I watch like a hawk. They are very happy to answer my endless questions in a way that makes sense to me and makes me confident they know what they are talking about and are not being deceitful in any way. I have never felt ripped off or taken advantage of and I have been going to him for 2 years now. This is very important to me as, I feel I am an independent, intelligent woman. They answering my questions and being up front about the procedures which can be like a doctor, trial and eliminating the possibilities in order to fix the more complicated issues. All which made sense to me. Yes, once I had to go through the line of possibilities (3) for a multi procedural fix and it turned out was the last item that fixed the problem. Joe was honest with me that if this last fix doesn't fix the problem even he would be stumped. Good thing it was the fix. Oh, and the price with labor did not put me into sticker shock. Phew! I also at first, would double check with my brother-in-law who was an out of state auto mechanic as well. When conveying to him how Joe worked and told him procedures in which Joe used said he would have used or advised the same things. There it was, confirmation. Now, I don't call my brother-in-law for confirmation anymore. As far as I was concerned, Joe has proven himself with me.

He said that he normally doesn't take on a repair job of that size, (this is a labor intensive and complicated repair) but he took on the job after I told him that the Explorer is our only vehicle. He agreed to repair the vehicle. When he was working on the vehicle, it was very hot outside, it was in July of last summer. He was good to his word about the repair taking two days. The cost of the repair was only $450 dollars. I called the local Ford dealership for a repair quote, before I called J&J, and they quoted me the repair would be between $1.100 to $1.800. I DID NOT buy a car from them. I used TrueCar to sell my vehicle. TrueCar is pretty awesome from my experience btw. Anyway, the dealer contacted me quickly after I sent my vehicle info to TrueCar as they were a verified TrueCar dealership. Once I let them know I was a TrueCar seller, they gave me the guarantee TrueCar price. I was given this price online and they didn't try to haggle me down. Which was paramount to me for my ideal experience. I briefly met the used car manager, Frank, when I went in to give them the car and was primarily helped by Jennifer in sales. They we're both accommodating, friendly, and professional! They did NOT "BS" me in any aspect at any point! Even with Frank being busy dealing with live online auctions, they clearly communicated to me Frank needed a little time to finish up his online auctions and then they'd draw up all paperwork and have it ready at the time we agreed on. AND THEY DID! Clear communication AND sticking to their word! Thank goodness! I went home for about an hour so he could finish his auctions, and then Jennifer came to my house, with all necessary paperwork and let me sign in the comfort of my home.
