The gentleman was gracious about it, corrected it immediately. Inside while I waited for the order to be prepared to go, was spacious and plenty of seating. It was quiet when I went. I would definitely come back and order to go or even stay to dine in. Either way, I would recommend.

This bistro is an order at the counter restaurant which specializes in exotic coffee and teas and other drinks with a Middle Eastern accent. They also serve a limited variety of wraps and sandwiches all for a reasonable price. Today I found the restaurant bright inside and well maintained. It is a nice place for a casual meal. I ordered at the counter and the young lady who waited on me was very pleasant and efficient. There seemed to be only one other person in the bistro, an older gentleman who was cooking on the grill. As I am always on the lookout for a good gyro of course I ordered their Lamb Gyro. I also tried their "Lamb over Rice plate which came in a tin foil pan. The gyro was served wrapped in paper and foil. The food was brought out to my table by the young lady in about ten minutes or so. There was no follow up. Utensils were plastic and lots of napkins were provided. The gyro was wrapped in a pita with a nice texture and good flavor. All the fillings were diced! This was not your traditional Greek gyro with cut off slices of meat and strips of lettuce. There was NO TZATZIKI SAUCE on the gyro or served on the side. The sandwich was served with diced lettuce, tomato, onion, and a white sauce and a spicy red sauce. Not your traditional Greek gyro. However, it was full of flavor! This was a very tasty sandwich...although I did kind of miss not getting my teeth into larger chunks of lamb. But, this Middle Eastern version of a gyro was most enjoyable. Rate this gyro a "B+." The Lamb over Rice served in a tin foil pan was a large meal for the money. A bed of flavorful rice was topped with diced lamb, crisp lettuce, onion, tomatoes and more of the white and spicy red sauce. It was a flavorful and filling meal. Rate the plate a "B." This was an interesting dish served at the Moca House. The restaurant is a welcome addition to the Las Cruces dining scene. I will return and maybe try their Philly Cheese Steak, although I will say that the Moca House will be more known for their exotic Middle Eastern drinks than their food. For the overall dining experience I will give it THREE AND A HALF STARS...meaning above average for a casual order-at-the-counter restaurant.

I really want to support local spots, so I'm bummed this was my experience. When I arrived, two…read morecustomers who had already paid ended up leaving without their food because the wait was so long, which wasn't a great sign. I waited about 45 minutes for a plate with roasted chicken thighs, rice, salad, and hummus with pita. Which I would normally think would be super quick to plate and get out. Unfortunately, the chicken was extremely over-salted (I had to remove the skin), the rice was mushy, the salad had no dressing, and the hummus had a very odd, overly smooth texture that was off-putting. I ate one piece of chicken and couldn't finish the rest. I hate writing negative reviews, especially for local businesses, but the wait just wasn't worth it.

So the food seems "clean" - no msg or other junk added. However, it was virtually tasteless. I mean, c'mon, add some garlic, onion, ginger, chile,... there're hundreds of options to add flavor. So yeah, food was bland. First time I got the chicken katsu bowl. The chicken was a bit bland, like the chicken itself had zero seasoning, not marinated for flavor, nothing. The breading was ok. Tempura was ok. Second time, I got Sweet and Sour Pork Soba. It wasn't breaded like most places, and that was ok, because I am Keto. But,... I was also a bit glad that there wasn't a lot of sauce, which is usually sugary elsewhere. However, the sauce in hand, was just like water with a little bit of redish something or other. Sweet and Sour is literally sugar (or SOMETHING sweet, like, perhaps, pineapple... ) and vinegar. This was a bowl of Soba with ten, maybe, 1/2" square chunks of tasteless pork, and 2 TB of cabbage. Bland. Unspiced. Boring. Would I eat there again? Probably not. Unless I was more in the mood for "clean" food, then tasty food. It IS possible to do both!

What was good: the Panang Curry was very flavorful with complex curry paste and peanut flavor that was palate enriching and satisfying. It was a little more spicy than what I would typically expect for a mild curry but very good. The interior of the restaurant was also very nice and surprising considering the restaurant is about 20 minutes from Las Cruces in an underdeveloped area near the mountains. What was disappointing: My Pad Thai was rather bland with only one real flavor note. I typically expect more tamarind flavor which usually gives that sweet, sour, and salty flavor that just wasn't present in the dish. If anything, it almost tasted like tomatoes were part of the sauce. I asked for some lime which made it better but this dish was a big no for me. Also, the mango sticky rice was kind of bland unlike the thicker, tongue velveting texture you expect. The server actually said that the person who typically makes the mango sticky rice was not working when we were there. Service: This was also a bit frustrating. They seemed understaffed but the dining room wasn't that big. Maybe four or five tables being served. We waited about ten minutes for our drink order after getting the menu and then longer to take our order. The food came out about ten minutes later but our server didn't check on us for refills or to see if we needed anything. We asked for the mango sticky rice to come out with our meal but it didn't arrive until almost 15 minutes after we finished our food. The server was kind enough to give a small discount on the sticky rice because it took so long (which we appreciated). In the end, I wanted to give this restaurant a three out of five but the quality of the food and delays in service were just too much in the end. I'll try some of the other Thai restaurants around town next time.
