Let me preface by saying that I have gone to the same guy for my hair for over 10 years. I moved to Austin over a year ago and have been putting off finding someone new. I've been emotionally scarred in the past so this was no small feat. I furiously did research and I came across Michelle at BOB Salon, and I am so happy I found her! She is truly AMAZING! The consultation before we started put me completely at ease. She intently listened to what I wanted and then asked me asked a lot of questions to make sure we were both on the same page. If you've ever left somewhere hating your hair, you know how important it is that you feel like you're being understood, and she definitely made sure of that. Getting the right blonde is serious business and she freaking NAILED IT! She did a heavy blonde highlight and then also brought up my base color/roots to a lighter shade, so my hair has beautiful dimension. My highlights look phenomenal and the cut is great, too. She totally exceeded my expectations, and I can't even express how much I love it! All the hearts. If you are looking for a true blonde expert, are looking for someone new after moving, or if you're just looking for an amazing and talented person for your luscious locks, I would recommend Michelle a million times. I've seen my share of hairstylists since moving to Austin. It's been a long, suffering road filled with disappointment after disappointment. Luckily, I found Bob Salon on Yelp but the stylist I saw only once there ended up leaving suddenly. Not a huge heartbreak for me since we hadn't forged a connection. No love lost but I certainly wasn't looking forward to trying another new stylist. Fortunately, Bob reached out via email letting me know my previous stylist had left and that if I wanted to follow, they'd miss me but if I wanted to try another stylist they'd offer a 50% off discount. The offer was too good to let pass so I scheduled my next appointment with Tricia Lee. I walked back into Bob with very low expectations and ready to be disappointed again. I'm happy to report, I wasn't disappointed at all. As a matter of fact, I am proud to announce that I have finally found "the one." Tricia was so easy to talk to. The whole process was easy breezy. I didn't have a nervous stomach at all. Tricia completely put me at ease and when I walked out, I was so happy with the end result. Originally I talked to her about Balayage but since she didn't have the proper tools for application, she did her own form and it turned out great. Dan Logan is still my stylist. I'm very particular about my hair and change it up often. Dan can look at a picture in a magazine I bring in and interpret that style into one that suits me. I can get in for appointments, there is easy parking. I don't have fight traffic to get there. Dan's stories make me laugh and cry at the same time. He's also a good listener. After one appointment I felt like we were old friends. Last funny story. First time I was there he not only did a cut and color, but finished up with a great blow out. I'm a Mom and it wasn't date night, so soon my hair was up and I was at the grocery store...where I ran into Dan. He looked at my hair up and sighed. "All that work for nothing." I kissed a lot of frogs to find my Fitz! This salon is my matching glass slipper. I had an absolutely wonderful experience here Friday. I was at a point where I had been going to a high dollar salon for a couple years and I just wasn't happy with my hair anymore. I had seen several stylists in my search for a new one and they were ok but I was never wowed... Fitz (at BOB) is 5 stars WOW! He really listens to you and instantly was someone I just trusted. Someone that oozes talent and skill (if that even makes sense). He took a bad haircut job I received the months prior and turned it an amazing, full bodied magazine worthy coif. AND out of all the years people just highlighted my hair with bleach. He actually took the time to choose two complimentary blonde actual colors and alternate them expertly into the most beautiful color job I've received in probably 10 years. Loved James at Bob Salon! I came for the groupon and they treated me very well. I really appreciated James's special attention to my curly hair. He really listened to my likes and dislikes about my hair and how to style it (on in my case NOT style it). He cut my hair wet, completely dried it and then re-cut based on the way my curly hair fell and moved. He cleared out the trouble spots I have with my hair, and made sure I was really happy with my cut and style. He showed me lots of pointers for quick styling of my hair with will make my life so much easier. I was never pressured to by products, but I did - because I loved the Bumble and Bumble curl definer that he used. The atmosphere was lovely and peaceful. Nicole is great! I followed her from her former salon to Bob's Salon and whenever I'm lucky enough to be in Austin, I definitely have her do my hair. I don't know how it is for most people, but I usually like the haircut a few days after it's grown out a bit.. but the first time I went to Nicole I walked out loving the cut! Additionally, the salon's staff is great and it's in a cute house that is totally Austin. I believe the last time I heard, she only works Saturdays and Mondays now, so I'd definitely recommend booking her in advance. read more

Well it's been almost 3 years since my original review for Bob Salon and going to see Tricia Lee is still an absolute highlight. It's a SHAME how bad I am at rescheduling timely so today when I walked in, my hair was raggedy for sure. She put some spark back in it with color and a super cute angled cut that gives my hair body and shine. (I'm starting to sound like a Pantene commercial.) Honestly the transformation she did to my hair today - made me get up and hug her - there are simply no words when someone with skills makes you feel glamorous and during grad school finals week no less! I have recommended Tricia to numerous friends and she quickly becomes their regular stylist. She's down to earth and quick witted without any of pretense. She's been doing hair for 14 years and knows her stuff so I trust her after some less pleasant salon experiences elsewhere. I've been a client of Lizzie's for 10 years. She is fantastic! My hard-to-tame long wavy/curly hair always looks terrific after a cut and blow-dry, and she shapes it so well that it holds up for 3-4 months between visits. Not only is she an excellent stylist, she is also a great person to chat with. I'm not a girly-girl by any means, and so any pretentious place would be a big turn-off for me. Reading about all the platinum blondes here, I had a little trepidation as I wanted something warmer. I told Peyton that I like to play with color to give dimension to my long, thick hair. Being over 40, I find that ashy blonde can easily read 'gray', so I was looking for caramels and light golden brown highlighted with light golden blonde. Sandra Thornhill at Bob Salon is the BEST! I had long, long, wavy hair for years, and after I turned 40, was looking for a stylist (had been cutting my own hair or doing the Supercuts thing, YIKES) I'm somewhat of a tomboy, not really into the hair/makeup/girlie thing, so I thought it would be a good idea to check out my friends' do's and ask the most consistently well groomed one where she got her hair did. Luckily my good friend Barbara (who has a VERY short pixie cut) turned me on to Sandra. I made an appointment, and fortified by Starbucks and a very understanding BF, made my way into the salon. Very cute old house, with great decor and when you walk in the door, you are offered coffee, water or soda, which is great. I waited for just a few minutes (great magazine selection, btw) and then I met Sandra. Thankfully, she was very approachable, and in I went to the shampoo room. O..M...G....having NOT been to a salon in a verry long time, someone else shampooing your hair is an orgasmic experience, I must say! They use Bumble and Bumble products and the shampoo and conditioner they used were perfect for my curly, somewhat frizzy (thanks, Austin humidity!) Roseanne-Roseanna Danna hair. Perfect cut, perfect chairside manner (she's a dog person, just like me!) I moved away from Austin for about 4 years, and hand to God, did NOT get my hair cut during that time, scared of having a less than Sandra experience. Back in Austin, booked an appointment and ta daaaahhh..I have good hair again! They are in a new, even cuter house than before, on Jefferson, but everything else was just as amazing as I remember. Sandra keeps my hard to tame mane under control and I love their products too, and the great thing is they don't push them. She asks you what you use (Frizz Ease for me mostly) and she lets you know how to use affordable products more efficiently. One cut with her and you will never go anywhere else, I promise. read more

Effortless talent. I truly believe that Dan Logan could cut and color my hair to perfection while standing on his head in a blindfold and singing the ABC's backwards. He's a natural with years of experience. It also doesn't hurt that he is one of the sweetest, kindest guys I have had the privilege of knowing. He's one of those people that has a positive aura about him. And he makes me laugh -- often! I always look forward to my 1.5 hours spent with Dan and leave all the better inside and out. I am so jealous reading these reviews about Fitz. I don't live in Austin, but Fitz was my stylist for 30 years. Every time I visit Austin I have him do my hair. When I come home people comment on my hair and ask, who did it. It's kinda fun to say, "Well, I fly to Austin to get my hair done". I have tried for years and paid tons of cash to find a stylist in my area and in LA that even comes close to Fitz. I have given up my dream of being blonde because my poor hair has been so traumatized by stylists that can't keep me blonde and keep my hair healthy. To live in Cali near the beach and not be blonde is a crime by the way. Oh, and his reds.....THE BEST. So here I sit with my natural color which is not fun, I run over to a cheepy salon to get a trim every 3 mos until the next time I make it to see Fitz. I went to Bob Salon a few weeks back and it was awesome! I had never been but saw rave reviews and a cute studio, so I asked for a stylist that could cut a mean shag and was handed off to Alex. He's incredible! Alex owned his own salon (in Alaska! Which was crazy in itself and I had many questions about that alone) for over a decade and told me he was very good at what he does. This was pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear when I visited a new salon and a new stylist to boot! I asked for a shag hair cut (which has probably gone in and out of style quite a few times since I've been getting those kinds of cuts....), pulled out my handy Pinterest board reserved for this kind of thing, and let him go to town. While he was cutting my hair, he told me all kinds of neat tips for optimal hair care while not pushing products left and right - something I really appreciated. I learned a lot while I was there! As much as I wanted to walk out of there looking exactly like one of the Olson twins, I settled with having their hair. Great experience and I will be back for more cuts! read more

*******Finally! A TRUE BLONDE SPECIALIST! ******** I had been to two different colorists only to find that they didn't listen to me and I still didn't get the blonde color I was looking for. My two pet peeves are 1)Highlights that are brassy/orangish blonde color and 2)To leave a salon after just getting highlights with a bunch of dark roots showing, which is what the 2 previous colorists did. Why did I pay all that money just to leave looking like I need a touchup? Then I found Michelle Weber through Yelp and Thank God I did! Michelle listened intently to me and gave me the gorgeous blonde color I wanted, plus she completely understood what I wanted for my roots. She brought up my natural color a couple of shades lighter and brightened up not only my root base, but my hair in general. Michelle really cares about her clients and her work and it is very important to her that her clients leave happy. This is one picky client that feels and looks like the blonde Goddess I was meant to be! I started seeing Sarah Kavakich at BOB a few months ago and am thrilled to have her as my stylist! I'm sure she does beautiful things with blonde hair, but I was delighted to find someone who doesn't try to turn brunettes into Blond Wanna-Be's, which is common in Texas. She strikes a great balance between listening to my needs and ideas and giving me her thoughts on what will look and work best for my hair. Currently she is working on building her clientele and has a good amount of availability, which selfishly is great for me since I don't usually pre-book my appointments. I know she's a rising star and that it's only a matter of time before that changes! In terms of the salon itself, it has great energy. It's a cute little house that has the bonus of being both Centrally located and having enough parking -- woo hoo! The salon/house itself is delightfully decorated and they are extremely hospitable. The best part for me is that there are no haughty attitudes among the staff and, unlike so many other salons, it doesn't reek of drama. IMO opinion it's not hard to find a decent stylist in this town but it's harder to find a salon that's not ripe with histrionics among the staff. Dennis, the owner, seems to foster a nice community there and inspire his staff to provide quality service in a welcoming environment. read more

Cutest/Best salon in Austin award! This quaint little place is going to be your best find in Austin, by far. I'd been going to the same stylist in my hometown for years and was reluctant to change but now that I've been living in Austin for three years, I'm so glad I decided to have Michelle Weber do my hair! She has been my stylist twice now and has done a fantastic job both times and I can't her thank her enough. She listens to what I have to say but also offers suggestions which I can appreciate. She is also super friendly and a blast to hang out with for an hour so I love going to get my hair done and it's not another one of those items you "need to do" but actually look forward to going! I pay a little more than I was used to, (I'm from a small town and was spoiled), but you also get what you pay for and I've unfortunately learned my lesson with other salons and can say that Michelle is well worth it! Great haircut with Tricia! My hair came in looking okay but my bangs were a mess - she listened to what I wanted and knew exactly what to do with my almost-wavy hair. Even convinced me to try a new style (holy crap my hair came out short). She's super nice and easy to talk to, so she's fun if you're chatty.
