I've been a longtime customer of Bob Evans, but this location at 4312 S Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL was a big disappointment. The service was extremely poor, the only waitress available couldn't remember the orders, and even though I tried to help make things easier, she got upset and the service kept getting worse. About 70% of what she brought was wrong compared to what we ordered. On top of that, the "apple pie" had almost no apple in it, less than a teaspoon in the whole slice. Very disappointing. I am rating on what I expected. Didn't think it was gourmet, my comparison is to local diners or cafes. As a background, I got a $50 gift card from Costco at a reduced price so I tried it. My wife got the fried chicken boneless breast that was moist and tasty. Not too much breading. The mash potatoes were impressive with good tasting gravy and the coleslaw wasn't too sweet. She got the 4.99 add on that gave her a salad and dessert. The salad was good as was the apple pie she chose. We took that home. I had the pot roast with mash potatoes, gravy and green beans. The gravy was tasty and different from my wife's gravy. The pot roast was right on and the green beans were the ones with ham juice which you don't see too often anymore. We really were pleasantly surprised. The portions are not real large but enough. To get to the $50 we had to add the family soup to take home and a whole banana bread. I haven't tried the soup or banana bread yet, but it looks good. I did eat the apple pie prior to this post and it was good, not overly sweet. The service was good but not real friendly which was ok. The ambiance is like a Cracker Barrel or Perkins. We have never been to a Bob Evans before so I can't tell if this is the best I'll get or the worst. We are retired and eat out a great deal. We go from high end to dinners and every thing in between. We limit our cooperate restaurants visits and tend to do local, but as I pointed out prior we were pleasantly surprised. read more

Our family comes here pretty regularly. Their menu has something for everyone, I just love breakfast there, but just as important as good food, it's the service that really hits home. One waitress in particular is the very best anywhere. Her name is Mae. She is a very hard worker and never had to write anything down and never makes a mistake. We hadn't been to Bob Evan's for a while and went because my dad was craving it! We were seated immediately and Julie our server was delightfully pleasant and efficient. The food was fine however my toast was pretty limp. I opted just eat it as I had witnessed the table next to us with a similar issue with toast and it took 10-15 minutes before they got it again. We had a simple meal of eggs, toast bacon and fruit. My dad had biscuits which he loved. Just observing I could tell there was a problem with efficiency in the kitchen. I always enjoyed eating at Bob's, even though there always seemed to be a problem of some sort. But I guess I'm finally done with the place. I'm just sick and tired of having to argue with the help to get what I ordered. Either stuff is missing or you get the wrong stuff. The staff is always rushing around in a big hurry, so they just bang the plates down on the table. Today I caught them in several outright lies; they just make things up to cover themselves. The managers aren't much help, as they are full of jibber jabber but short on solutions. If you are trying to pick up an order to go, well Good Luck! The food or the "SO CALLED" POOR STEAKS THIS RESTAURANT SERVES! a friend wanted to come to this place for his birthday, I warned him in advance, all 3 of our steaks went back. A kind neighbor told me you can order Thanksgiving Dinner online from BOB EVANS, Venice, Florida. What a great idea! I went to their website and placed an order for 4. You check what you want, and the next question is, do you want it delivered on Tuesday or Wednesday? I checked Wednesday. The next question was what time: early, late, or ASAP. I checked ASAP, thinking we would be one of the first. It would give me time to heat it up. We are the first! Our doorbell just rang, and the dinner was just delivered. It's November 12th, not November 23rd. I called and said there was a misunderstanding. I explained I ordered the Thanksgiving Feast, and Thanksgiving isn't until the 24th. The woman who answered asked me to wait and she would get the manager. She returned and said the manager said we can't refund you. The manager couldn't even come to the phone. How rude? She could have come and said I am so sorry, but once delivered, we can't refund you. I said I had a few questions. Can it be frozen? She said you can freeze it all. We froze what we could. The turkey was cold, but all the side dishes were piping hot. I will have to wait until they are cooled and in freezer dishes. We cut the pie because the whipped cream would not freeze. The crust is horrible, and the whipped cream is fake. Very disappointed. Bob Evans used to have good food. This will be our last meal eaten or delivered by Bob Evans. For a morning meeting, My manager opted for going to Bob Evans over Panera for some reason or another. The order was placed off the Catering menu. We ordered eggs, bacon, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, banana bread and potatoes. It sounded like a wonderful way to feed everyone attending, right? And reasonably priced. When the food arrived, many of the foil lids were misplaced, which isn't much to complain about, I guess. At least we got everything we ordered. However, the food we received did not seem to be thoroughly cooked. The eggs were slightly short of being cooked all the way. The sausage patties were still raw in the middle. The potatoes were super greasy, The bacon was cooked unevenly, as if it was thrown into the fryer in a clump and cooked that way. The biscuits were good, and the banana bread was soft and fresh. However, it had a strange aftertaste, almost like it was made with fake flavor like a dietary cake to give you sweetness without too much sugar. Very disappointed in the food we were given and the quality control was definitely lacking. I'd like to say that I was the only one who got ill from eating this. However, I cannot as several other people who ate the breakfast were sick that day after our plate full. I have asked other people of their experiences with Bob Evans and many have said that they have amazing salads and food. So, I would try it again, but I would definitely dine in next time. We visited Bob Evans mid afternoon yesterday thinking it would be quiet and safe. Much to my dismay the cook was working with her mask under her chin chatting with others over our food. I mentioned to the waiter that she wasn't wearing it and she said "I know". In retrospect I wish we would have left before we received our food. Aside- the food was good. My gf and I are huge Bob Evans fans; we have one that we frequent closer to home. The staff were friendly and courteous however we are accustomed to a higher level of service. Our waitress, while sweet and apologetic, took down my order incorrectly, I received burnt/overdone food and we had to remind her several times that we would like additional rolls, hot sauce, to go boxes, etc. These are typically things I overlook however, given the fact that we were the only party she was serving, I didn't understand why we had to keep approaching her/reminding her for things. She did not ask how the food was and quickly brought us our check (we were going to get dessert but decided otherwise). The manager assisted us at the register when we went to pay and asked how the food was. My gf gave a shrug and I told him it was okay. He glanced up at me, ignored my comment and then continued to cash us out. One would expect more from a manager (inquire if there were any issues, apologize for it not being better, etc.) but all we received was our receipt and a half hearted smile as he hurried away. Went to Bob Evans today, July 5th around 11:00, because all our other places were packed. Service was terrible, the table behind us actually left, they sat there for 15 minutes unacknowleged and walked out. We witnessed the manager on his phone pretty much the entire time we were there completely oblivious to what was going on. Food was ok, just eggs and sausage, the really disturbing moment came when I hit the restroom as we were leaving and have never been more disgusted in my entire life. Filth. Absolute filth hasn't been clean in months I would say.. stickey urine all over the floor, no toilet paper. I only wish I had gone to the rest room BEFORE I ate, because I cant even imagine what the Kitchen must look like!!! Have ordered delivery from Bob Evans before. Always arrived hot - we are 1 mile from restaurant - and food as ordered etc. Tonight I ordered small version of turkey dinner which includes turkey, stuffing, cranberry, mashed potatoes and a choice of bread. Well I got a cold meal with hardly any turkey (not the usual slices but small bits) no cranberry and three(!) scoops of stuffing, potatoes were okay and two paper thin slices of banana bread. The banana bread portions have always been generous. My husband's meal was okay. Not ordering from there again any time soon. read more

The food is decent. Our problem is the often-present server who never writes down the order, often forgets an item, seldom, if ever, comes back to check on us (and ask if we need refills or something else) and is generally unpleasant. We like this restaurant but have had quests with us who were distressed by the server's attitude and presentment. Needless to say, we have not returned in awhile. We once ate here often but no more. It is regrettable. Management needs to evaluate the quality of service and give training and follow-up training with actual observation and evaluation. We miss this place and regret we are unable to return. The experience with our visiting friends was our last visit. We are very conscious of the stress on servers, and really try hard to be good customers. Having owned two restaurants in the past we know the difficulties of hiring and retaining staff. We also know the importance to staff of having and retaining a good job, and we would not want someone to lose their job because of management not providing correction to behavior that could cost the business its' customers. If a person is not suited to the job, they should be helped to understand why and move on. On the other hand, there have been several other very good servers but the last few times we were there, they were not. I know it is difficult to find staff in recent times, and wish times were different. We respect that Bob Evans has tried to hold the line on price increases, another reason we liked this location. We wish your organization well and hopefully will return someday to a more acceptable experience. read more

Food excellent - LOUSY service by Nichole!!!! I ordered the Pot roast which came with mashed potatoes and boiled carrots and some gravy - very good. For an extra $1.99 I also got a cup of soup and a dessert - I chose some fruit salad which I took home. Banana bread was served with butter on the side, everything was excellent. Even though the restaurant was not that busy, we were thoroughly ignored by our waitress. My friend ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, but said she would not order that again. Have been to this location many times (more than 12) and each time the food is pretty good and the staff seems willing to make things nice, both eat in and take out. I was on the fence regarding 3 or 4 stars but decided that the food and staff made it a 4. My main concern at this Bob Evan is the appearance of the inside. Compared to others it appears that the ceiling is dirty and that the carpet is long overdue to be replaced. I compare this to other local places within close range. This Bob Evans just looks like it is due for some updating. They probably won't admit to saying it if put on the spot but some of the servers agreed with my observations. Perhaps the owner/proprietor rather than trying to figure out who on their staff agrees with me should spend some $$$ addressing the issues raised in this review. My guess is that the health inspectors don't find any egregious violations or they would take action, but nonetheless, some updating of the interior is probably in order. Keep in mind the staff friendliness and the food still makes this place worthwhile. read more

Went to the Venice,FL location today. Was seated then not spoken to for about 10 minutes, not even an "I'll be with you in a moment" from the staff. Ended up walking out. My husband stayed behind to speak to the manager, Glenn, and was appalled at the treatment he received. Glenn raised his voice at him and said "you were not waiting 10 minutes". When he tried to tell Glenn that we visit the restaurant a lot, Glenn told him "you don't have to beat it into the ground". I was shocked to hear this.
