I have resisted going into a Bob Evans since a bad experience many years ago. When my wife had lunch with her son at one, she reported that it was pretty good. So when the breakfast choice was Denny's or B.E. we rolled the dice having nothing to lose. Breakfast is my fav meal and I know exactly what I want, scrambled eggs, sausage and French toast. Anything else is a bonus. We were seated almost immediately and lo and behold their "farmers choice" breakfast hit everything I wanted. Add some grits to the other items along with my own carafe of hot bold coffee and Crankie Frankie is as gentle as a lamb. Service was great, not one thing to complain about. Great dining experience on a Tuesday at 11 am. The meal was exceptionally good; tasty and big portions. But it was the most excellent service by our waitress (LA) that really made everything so perfect. She was friendly and prompt and truly enjoyed her job. Exactly what I expected. Decent food at a low cost. This location was clean and the staff were very friendly. They treated my toddler fantastic and didn't make us feel bad about having a little one who does their own thing. It's always nice to eat somewhere when you can relax and not worrying your children are a bother. Went there tonight my order was not wrong but, not quite right either. The food was typical Bob Evan's and it was good. The reason I'm giving a 4 star is because our waitress Karen was busting her butt running all over our side of the place with a boot on her foot. We kept her running and she still had a smile and fixed my order right away. When we left she even offered to get me a peach tea to go w/o ice so it would keep till tomorrow. Going above and beyond like that is what will keep my family driving past our neighborhood Bob Evan's 15 miles out if the way to this location. This place is a joke. Food today was so bad. The roast beef had about 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes with it. It took one hour between ordering & finally receiving our food. To top it off, the food was lousy & the service was just as bad. Go across the highway and there are several places that aren't as bad as this place. Never again read more

This was our first time at a Bob Evans, and we were quite happily impressed with the quality of the food and the reasonable prices. The place is clean and attractive, and the service was great. The menu is pretty standard American fare, but there is something here for everyone, and our kids were happy with their food (which is an accomplishment in itself!). Their bread (pumpkin, banana nut, ginger, and apple) is absolutely fantastic too. This Bob Evans is wonderful. We go 2-3 times per month to this location. Today, as always, went for breakfast. Had a buy one, get one coupon. We were seated immediately. We never wait more than a minute here. As we were seated our waitress took our drink order. We each had a pot of coffee and waters before the menus were opened. As regulars we knew what we wanted. My wife gets the Rise and Shine. I get the Farmer's Choice. Bacon was cooked just right. Sausage patties have great flavor. The pancakes are the best and we split/ share the three with SF syrup. The eggs are done right every time. Biscuits are big and tasty. Food served hot in 5 minutes today - faster than usual. Total check $14. Left a $5 tip and everyone was happy. I'm Not huge on chains, but this one is pretty good. And when the only other options are null. Bob Evans is it. But saying that, and being the best option for breakfast in the area, they could easily not care and potentially be really bad. But THAT IS NOT THE CASE! If friendly service is your thing, I wouldn't recommend this Bob Evans. First time here. Sat at the bar close to where the waitresses get their orders from the kitchen. Unfortunately this Bob Evans never handles carry out orders well. Doesn't matter if you call a week, a day or a few hours in advance. The answer for delays is always the same,"sorry our system is down" or "Sorry we can't find your order" or "Sorry it's in this computer (by Door) but not loaded in the computer at Carry Out". Wow, VERY disappointed in the service tonight (arrived 7:15ish; left 8:20) at Bob Evans in Ruskin/Sun City Center. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes to have our orders taken. The place was NOT that busy. Ordered a classic breakfast; hubby ordered the pork roast. His rolls and my pancakes arrived quickly...20 minutes later, my pancakes eaten, the rest of both meals showed up. Waitress never checked my coffee for a refill, but did apologize for the wait times. I'm a 20% tipper because I've been a waitress and I KNOW what a physical and thankless job it can be. But, tonight, I only left 10%. It was that bad. The entire time we were there, we could hear loud voices, laughter and lots of "hooting" from the kitchen area. This continued as we waited to pay, alone at the register, as 3 different employees looked at us and walked away. Not what it used to be :( Apparently this Bob Evans is being run by a new company. It has a much smaller menu and most of the things that we liked on the menu are longer available. I ordered soup and half a sandwich and the wrong sandwich came out. The waitress asked me for my fork and transferred the wrong sandwich to a plate and told me that it might be someone else's. Are you kidding me? Are you going to go get my sandwich off someone elses plate. It took so long for them to make my sandwich my husband finished his entire meal and I haven't even started mine. By the time my food got there I wasn't hungry any longer. I did speak to the manager and let him know what had happened. My food was taken off the bill. We will not be back. read more

I'm usually a huge fan of Bob Evans however this was not a pleasant experience from the moment I sat down at the front food bar. I felt sorry for the wait staff. They were waiting for food to serve for 21 minutes, wheat toast to complete an order and 1 or 2 more items to complete others. Poor Lupe' in the kitchen was being bombarded with orders. They are just very short staffed from the kitchen to the grill, servers to wait staff. Finally management began to assist in the kitchen. This goes to show people work their butt for little pay, short staffing, additional cuts while the expectations of service and standards continue to Rise. It's a chain, but generally speaking they have good food. This one suffers from the same process deficiency that many do...order management in the kitchen. Manager here needs to spend more time in the kitchen and less time wandering back and forth. Kitchen just keeps pumping out food, no one picks it up, why, because they are missing one item, ownership, not clear, I spent an hour watching this circus. At one point a server grabbed the wrong pancake plate and it a 5 minute conversation to fix it. And another dropped a plate on top of a tray of food. Now we have carnage as they have to reorder. Would like to give them a -1 star. I have to say this place really disappointed me. I ordered their Steakhouse Burger, and it was one of the worst burgers I've ever had. It was at best 4 oz, no taste at all, dry, and wouldn't be surprised if a "filler" was used in the meat. I love a good burger, so if you're gonna charge $10 for a burger, at least make it 8 oz, use fresh ground beef, and take some pride in preparing it. I first read the latest reviews and considered going someplace else due to the negative reviews.I am so glad that I formed my own opinion because I could not have gotten better food and service any where else. We were seted as soon as we arrived and our waitress,Shannon Lewis, was pleasant and efficient throughout our time there. Ok. Ya know when you go to a chain restaurant you always find "something" wrong? It's outdated or the food sucks, yada yada yada. Well, I could not find a single thing wrong with this one. Hubby and I went here for breakfast, his favorite meal. The restaurant is very nice inside and out. The hostess lead us to our seats then pointed to the window and said" Here ya go, a seat with a view of the ocean"! LOL, it was the parking lot. I ordered eggs, (over medium), bacon, home fries and toast. Everything was cooked perfectly. Not a runny egg white to be found. The toast was actually toasted! What a novelty. And the home fries, don't get me started! Delicious. The addition of sweet browned onions put them over the top for me. The food here was bleh. My boyfriend thought his meal was mediocre, but mine was awful. I got the biscuits and gravy. Should be a simple enough meal to execute, but not here. The biscuits had a plastic taste and the gravy was GROSS. It tasted like a packet of instant beef gravy with some sausage crumbles in it. Definitely not my idea of good sausage gravy. My boyfriend agreed that my meal was inedible. I ate one of my biscuits because I was starving after being on the road for 10 hours, but needless to say, I am leaving starving. I've never eaten at a Bob Evans before but I assume this is the standard across the board. The coffee was so bitter, neither of us could drink it even with cream and sugar (I usually opt for black or a tiny cream). Pretty good all around. Had an appointment for 9:30 AM had to wait until 10 a bit unhappy about that but i understand its out of their control. Food was well made for the time it took(don't expect a 5 star restaurant). Kid meals are good love how they made my toddler a little pig out of pancakes;he enjoy it. I've been coming to Sun City /Ruskin Bob Evan's or as we like to call it Mrs.Evan's Little Boy Roberts Place for 3 years now we live in Kings point and that's usually our safe pick. Breakfast eggs,pancakes,bacon is always good ,and the french toast is delicious the bread is thick and soft add the cherries or what ever they have in season , If your a fan of the country fried stake don't expect what you would at an ihop, still good but steak is thin and has thicker breading and small. For lunch ya can't go wrong with the pot roast open faced sandwich, it's seasoned well the meat easy to eat . House salads are always fresh and green but sorry guys no olive oil. Bread is freshly baked and so good the banana nut bread, yeast rolls are my favorite i havent had much luck with the biscuits for some reason they've always been hard and cold. Soups to try is the broccoli cheddar. As for the service it varies kay C. And a little lady with the name tag Ohio are the most attentive ones if your sitting at a table. I myself am a servsafe manager certified culinary professional in the food service industry. Every time I come to this Bob Evans I get very good customer service. Even when the servers are slammed busy they manage to handle all their duties with as much grace as possible. When I came by today it was not extremely busy but the staff, still very professional and efficient. My server (Chenoa H) and my hostess (another server) recommended the new bacon lovers omelette. As always the food here is outstanding. The recipes and ingredients Bob evans uses are very fresh and crisp on a consistent basis. Also the line cooks are craftsmen in perfecting the presentation and look of the omelette itself. They should be proud of their work as well.
