George is lifesaver! I own three 40 foot boats, two of them being 35 years old, so I need the services of a reliable and reasonably priced boat mechanic more often than most. I first used Boat Stuff four years ago, and have never used anyone else since. George is incredibly reliable. He can fix almost any issue that arises, ranging from finding and fixing leaks, toilet related issues, electrical problems, he even installed a new stove and oven in one of my boats. I have not yet had a problem that George couldn't fix. Another great thing about Boat Stuff is that they are very cost conscious. George often finds a way to solve the problem for 50% less than the traditional solution. He is very flexible about scheduling, and has even responded to a late night emergency. I have used over a dozen boat repair places, and none of them even compare to how great George is. I almost hate to write such a glowing review, for I fear he will get so busy he won't be able to help me when I need him. But the great thing about George, is that no matter how busy he is, he will always make time to take care of his clients. read more

Hired George to do fiber glass work on my 38'. He bid the job for $1,200, called me and said the work was finished and wanted to get payed right away. He billed me $2,600 and on the invoice he charged me for things he never touched. I went to look at my boat and the work he had done was awful. Fiberglass work was not matching and there was dust all over my boat and the surrounding boats. He hired someone else to fix it who did a better job but had a tough time repairing the work that George had already done. I paid the guy who fixed it and in the meantime George had billed me for detailing the top of my boat for twice as must as anyone else in the industry. He did a terrible job which I again had to pay someone else to come in a fix the work. George also painted the bottom of my boat and billed me for over double the amount of his original bid. Due to his workmanship and having to redo all his original work I have been without my boat all summer. What should have been a one week job too over three months. After paying people to fix his work I feel I don't him any money. Now he filed a lawsuit against me for $5,000, which is over double of his original quote to do the work he was going to preform. I have already payed other parties to fix and finish his work. I would think twice before doing any business with this company. read more

I wanted to find a mobile mechanic to come change the raw water pump impeller on my boat, and this guy sounded great. I talked with him on the phone and set up an appointment. He called 15 minutes before the time and said he couldn't make it, had to go to the doctor, but he could come tomorrow for sure. We set up another time. Next day, I waited about 15 minutes then called him, got his answering machine, left a message. He texted me "I'm in a meeting." I texted back to see about rescheduling again. He texted back his apology, would see if someone could come by later that afternoon. Trying to be helpful, I texted that if not today, how about tomorrow? I never heard from him again. No calls, no text. I understand that things come up, but a phone call is a pretty common courtesy. I wasted two days hanging around waiting for him. read more

George did not complete the job that he was paid to complete. i have a 34' boat that i hired him to detail and wax. he called and said the job was complete and i paid him. i did not see the boat until a week later and found that the boat needed to be washed because of wax residue left on the canvas and surface areas. once washed i found several spots on the starboard side that had extensive wax residue that was not buffed out. additionally he did not wax/buff the transom. when i asked him about these items he admitted not doing them and offered a discount on any future services. there will be no future services. i have had other large boats detailed by different outfits that were much better than George. ADDTITIONALLY, HE TRIED TO CHARGE ME A 3% FEE FOR USING MY CREDIT CARD WHEN HE NEVER MENTIONED THERE WOULD BE SUCH A FEE FOR USING MY VISA. I TOLD HIM I WOULD HAVE COME BY A PAID HIM WITH A CHECK THE DAY HE FINISHED THE BOAT IF THAT WAS THE CASE. HE CANCELLED THE 3% FEE. I AM GLAD I USED MY VISA BECAUSE I REVERSED THE CHARGE ON HIM UNTIL HE GETS IT RIGHT. GEORGE RETURNED TO FINISH THE JOB. A DEFINITE IMPROVEMENT. read more

George did a great job buffing and waxing our 19 foot boat. Prior work from another company had left it a bit mottled, additionally we hadn't kept up with hull waxing over the years. George's work was excellent and he was able to make the fiberglass of our 2009 boat look brand new. We thought that we were going to have to take the boat to a marina but he came to our storage unit and took care of everything. We had old gas that we had to get out of the tanks and George syphoned out the fuel on the spot. He didn't sound very knowledgeable when we spoke about boat finishes and plumbing, so I was a bit concerned, but went ahead anyway. Then just like other reviews you see here, when it came time to do the work, he didn't show up. He didn't call or text. He just bailed. Was looking to have all of my head hoses replaced and upgrading to a vacu-flush system in my aft stateroom. George came out, gave a clear estimate with reasonable rates. After getting into the job there was an area in the bilge he could not see during the estimate and it contained a more elaborate set-up then anticipated. George immediately took photos and texted them to me with an explanation that the cost would increase because of this. These things happen and I appreciated that it was noted immediately, a photo was shown to illustrate the problem and I also recalled that he did not see this section of the hull area when we were there for the estimate. The job took an additional day and a half and George reduced his hourly and removed the mark up on all parts. I have a recently purchased 23 foot 2005 sailboat and have used BSMS twice, first last summer 2020 when George did a wonderful, thorough job cleaning and detailing the boat's topsides, as well as removing the hull decals for the old name for the boat, and second a week ago when George helped remove the old, too-heavy outboard that came with the boat and installed a new, lighter propane outboard I'd purchased; this job required some extra work and skills, given the way the existing fuel and electrical charging lines for the old motor were set up through the transom. He also answered my questions about storing propane tanks on board. I've found George doesn't just do the job requested, from his year's of experience he provides very helpful additional tips on aspects of the job and the boat, maintenance etc. He is very open to your questions and takes the time to talk the issue out with you. He's a great guy, easy to work with and clearly very knowledgeable, and his fees are very reasonable, given the quality of work. I highly recommend George, without reservations, and will be using his services again when needed. read more

I left a poor review of George in 4/2014. And his name popped up again during a Yelp search. And whaddya know, he posted a response to my review 10 months later. A response that is a total fabrication. I would never "pressure" anyone to check out the motor on my boat. And as for me "threatening" George that I wouldn't have the boat detailed unless he was going to check out the motor, that is true, but not as George couches it. George and I agreed, upfront, that he would detail the boat if he got it running. And his cost for for motor work and detail was $45hr. But 40 minutes before our appt he called to say something else came up. Below is my original post and George's response. Notice in his original response he notes he has trouble in scheduling. And in his response 10 months later he calls my statements derogatory and half-truths. While George may think they are derogatory, but they are nothing less than the truth. George should be ashamed of himself. I hired Boat Stuff to detail the hull and topside of my 2011 Chris Craft Corsair. I was out of town when they did the work, and when I got back in town and inspected the work, I noticed the top side was not done to my standards or what I would consider Boat Stuff's standards based on my convos with George. I called him and explained the situation, and after texting him some photos of what I meant he called me apologizing profusely and came down the next day to take care of the shortcomings. Everyone is going to have off days, and George handled it with care and class. This earns 5 stars in my book, thanks for the great detail and even better customer service, George! read more

I called George on Thursday after seeing one of his people in the marina cleaning another boat. I spoke with him briefly and we agreed to meet in 30 minutes at the boat. I rescheduled an appointment so I could stay and meet with him. He never showed and he never called to let me know he wasn't coming. I called him and he apologized and said he couldn't figure out which number was mine in his cell. He told me he would come by the boat the next day, Friday, to assess the boat and give me a call. It's now Wednesday the following week. He never called. This is one of the big problems in the boat industry. Some providers are flaky. George will not be cleaning my boat nor will he be asked to do other work I had in mind. We need to expect better of boating service people and not use them if they can't keep their words. George seems like a nice guy, but one that doesn't have the respect or skill to communicate professionally with customers, at least not this customer. read more

I am over-the-top happy with the work George and his crew did on my boat. I have hired other companies in the past paying top-dollar for what turned out to be merely adequate results. However, George's crew did a fabulous job on my boat. Additionally, they cleaned the plastic enclosures, even cleaned the roof (other companies didn't bother with the plastic or the roof) and cleaned areas I don't know how they were able to get too. My boat is 31 years old and the fiberglass is not in the best condition - thin in spots and oxidized in others - but George's crew did a fabulous job. I'm looking forward to a long-lasting relationship with Boat Stuff Marine Services and Jesse. (Can I get Jesse assigned to always be my boat guy? After giving all of my information to him I waited for a time to have work completed. The day was set, but no time. I sent several emails to get a time nailed down so I could be sure to be at marina. Never received any contact from him regarding time so I just waited at marina on the set day. No calls, no email, nothing! Even to this day there has been no contact with me. George gives accurate estimates and gets the job done, either on the mark or with time to spare. He is courteous, knowledgable and very conscientious, and will keep working to make any problem right. I have used George one time, but plan on calling on him again. I was in a crunch, my shower walls were a mess and had to have it completely redone. I had three weeks to get it completed and found that that was not enough time to schedule anyone in the great city of Seattle. I was referred to George by 2 people in my marina. He called me back within 6 hours and had my consultation the next day. He scheduled me for the following Saturday to get the job started. I was impressed with him telling me he would be there and showed up on time. Another nice feature about his business is that he calls back. I will add another star when the job is completed. Last summer, I decided i wanted to take a more active role in the maintaining my boat. While doing my research, I came across Boat Stuff Marine services and George. It is unusual to have contractors allow owners to work along side of them, never mind giving a step by step instructional lesson, but that is what I found. George is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of caring and troubleshooting boats, very cost conscious, and will let you know what you can do to save time and money on the project. I found his add on Craigslist. Called and explained what I had in mind/needed and he talked about rates and services available. This was the first time i've had my boat professionally detailed so I did not fully understand the difference between cleaning and buffing/waxing. I come from the automotive business where a detail includes the wash and wax/buff. He did talk about an hourly price and also a per foot charge, but again, this was the first time i've had this time of service performed so I take responsibility for the confusion. He also mentioned a travel fee if I was outside a certain range, but never confirmed whether that fee would be applicable. He called to confirm our appointment time the day before and then again an hour before the scheduled time. He showed up on time and ready to work. He asked what I wanted done and then went to work. He did not go over the pricing or even talk about an estimated total. The whole time, I'm thinking he was working for $45 an hour. 5 hours later, I went out to let him know I had things to do and needed to settle up before I left. At this point he proceeded to let me know he "threw in" extra buffing that usually runs over $300, I started to get concerned. He tells me that he already has my bill and hands me the $525 invoice. He charged me for travel, supplies, and a matrix of labor costs. I've got a 22ft boat and my friends have always talked about getting their 20ft ski boats detailed for $300. I was a bit surprised with a $525 bill. He did a nice job and the boat looks great. I've got no complaints about his work, but would have felt much better about the bill if he would have taken the time to go over it in the beginning. I'm sure he has detailed enough boats to have a pretty good idea of the final amount once I explained what I wanted done.
