PAID 28K FOR A BOAT WE LATER DISCOVERED WAS TOTALED JUST A MONTH BEFORE. LIED TO, THREATENED, ABSOLUTELY SCAMMED. DO BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. We should have read the other 1 star reviews. I can't believe I'm writing this, but earlier this year we set out to purchase a nice boat and found an ad (listed below). The boat seemed clean and ran, so we purchased it from O'Ryan Marine. Ryan had assured us that it was always well maintained, had no major maintenance issues in the past, and that he was selling it on behalf of his neighbor. We purchased the boat, put it in the water, and came back a few hours later to find out it was filling with water. Out of curiosity, we looked up the 'neighbor' who was on the title and I work with him. I messaged him and asked if he knew the boat had a leak and if there was anything else we needed to be on the lookout for. Our conversation is shown below and we were shocked. O'Ryan bought the boat in a totaled state, restored it, and passed it off to us with no disclosure of any sort of damage. We were completely lied to and asked for our money back. Ryan then threatened us, called us scammers and every name in the book, and said to basically go f**k ourselves because we were dumb enough to buy it and "there's no return policy". Now we've spent the better part of a month dragging it back and forth to a different repair shop (invoice below) to have the leak patched and more recently, a starter motor blown, all in the span of a month. The shop we took to have it repaired told us the wiring is pretty corroded because, surprise, the boat was flooded just a month before. We can only hope no more issues arise as we would have never purchased a totaled boat had we known. I'd expect this from some sort of sham salesman on Craigslist but not a dealership/repair shop -- and the owner at that. We trusted him and got burned. My boat was hit a couple of years ago but after seeing some negative reviews wanted to share my story. The damage was strictly cosmetic and after speaking to a few big name dealers in Seattle, I came upon O'Ryan Marine. Their quote was about 60% under what I had been previously quoted and they were able to get me in right away. This was also mid May and one of the busiest times for marine services. My gel coat is a deep purple and very hard to match from everyone I had previously spoken with. The repair did take a few weeks but any boat owner knows that you don't rush things like this as the repair should last the life of the boat. O'Ryan also went above and beyond repairing minor existing dock rash and bringing the entire exterior back to original condition (all while staying within the original estimate). I am a 4-year former storage client. O'Ryan promised my boat dewinterized, repaired, and ready for pickup today, 11am, March 31, 2023. He specifically requires clients to to schedule date and time appointments well in advance of pick-up. I did this by phone with Ryan O'Neal 3-weeks prior. Drove 45 minutes today for the agreed pick-up appointment. Upon arrival, he said "SORRY"... boat was still in storage and had never been scheduled. This was the second time (in four years) he has personally promised a pick-up date/time and totally blew-it. Nice guy, but O'Ryan is not reliable and doesn't appear to care less. I am new to boat ownership and had a starting problem with my boat. I brought my boat to Ryan and it was a great experience. With a minimum of time, the problem was diagnosed and parts were replaced. It was literally taken care in two hours, while I waited. Additionally, he discovered and fixed a problem with a leaking reservoir that I was aware but forgot to mention. One thing this business needs to consider is not everyone is a boat mechanic so questions will be asked. Anytime you ask Ryan a question about something regarding your vessel or the service, he responds back with only rudeness and snarkiness. I'm not sure what his problem is, but as a customer I'd like to know what is happening with my vessel and what they plan on doing and also what service needs to be done. I don't think he understands that when we're planning to spend a lot of money on something which is overall an expensive hobby, that I may want their advice on what needs to be done. Not making me feel like an idiot for asking something regardless how many times I ask. Anyway best of luck to him but not a place I'd try to have service my boat again. I'm generally do my own maintenance but ended up with a problem than I couldn't fix. Ryan took my boat, did some debugging for me, told me what I could do to fix it, then sent me on my way without charging me because he technically didn't fix my boat. He was too swamped and I was too cheap, so it was a win win for both of us (more me than him). I've used these guys a few times in the past, but the last experience with them really made me doubt if I'll use them again. When my boat lift failed over the summer I called them first and Ryan came out to look at the lift to make sure it wasn't fixable. It was well and truly dead so we asked him to find out how much it would cost to have a new one installed. My recollection is that he called back with a quote and my reaction was something like, wow, that's expensive, ok whatever. Shortly after, my husband got a tip from a neighbor and found another installer who could do the job for 25% less. I called Ryan to tell him that we were going to go with the other guy and he was quite rude, saying he had already ordered the lift and that I would have to pay for a service call for his inspection. Fair enough. A few weeks later I got a voice message asking why I hadn't paid my bill so I called back and said I hadn't received an invoice. An invoice was emailed to me for over $200. Wow. He was at our dock for maybe 10 minutes tops. Nice work if you can get it I guess. So, a couple things. First the rudeness. Second, we hadn't signed a contract for the lift, nor had I received any kind of a bid in writing. I get signed bids from contractors to do work for far less than the $10K plus he had quoted me verbally. Third, over $200 for a "service call" where nothing is serviced seems really outrageous. read more

This place does not have their act together. I spent weeks just trying to get the service manager to return my call. After trying 8 times (I checked my cellphone calls log) and leaving multiple messages with people who assured me that "he'll call you this afternoon", I gave up and went elsewhere. I have no idea how good their mechanical work is since I never got the opportunity to find out. - update - They finally called! Since I first wrote this review I have been called 9 times requesting that I take the review down. I have been offered a free winterization if I pulled or edited the review. It appears that the way to get them to call you back is to leave a bad review on Yelp. This started out as a 2-star review, as I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. But I'm dropping it to 1-star because I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. And I pulled my snarky "not Nordstrom's more like Wal-Mart" comment since that wasn't really fair. read more

My experience with O'Ryan Marine was terrible!!! Here are some of the issues I came across. I wouldn't even give this place one star. I spent $1,000 and 6 weeks of time, for nothing. Ryan said that we agreed to just get the boat running (NOT TRUE). It was running when I took it into the shop. I thought I was paying to get it running right. Did very poor quality of work!!! When I got the boat out on the water the noise was exactly the same as before, as nothing had been done. Ryan's answer to that was, "we set it to spec, your engine is old". A real shop would actually fine tune the motor. The motor is not brand new, (2003) and should not be considered spec! There were disconnect electrical wires, and as a result of this the boat got stuck in gear! They also didn't tighten down the bolts on the throttle cable. I paid for testing and running the systems. Ryan says, " it's not part of the deal to run the boat and make sure that it actually works, and that the boat ran at the shop". Ryan can't remember what he talks about with his customers, twist and manipulates conversations to try and cover his ass (saying if it's not this then it's that, a bunch of excuses) Didn't take care of my boat while on his lot! The boat was full of rain water! Can't keep a schedule. 3 weeks from my original appointment before they even really looked over the boat in-detail. O'Ryan Marine is under-staffed and they can't keep up with the simple things like answer the phone and returning phone calls. read more

I have taken both of my boats to Ryan and each time he more then gets the job done! The first boat was my 1988 ski supreme. Very tired and looking old. Ryan and his team made it look almost new! Interior was spotless and paint looked better the new. I had my new boat shrink wrapped by him last fall. Very detailed oriented and does what you ask.
