Board room atmosphere

Once you walk in, someone checks your ID and then you can order drinks and/or play board games. After a certain time (7pm or so), there is technically a charge for each board game and you're responsible for sending the amount via Venmo. Casual feel which is nice. They decorated the inside for the season (Halloween) which was nice and felt cozy.

Wall of board games

While I have not tried the bar here, I found this to be a very affordable option for groups of friends. There is a wall of board games near the entrance, along with staff checking IDs. During happy hour, games are free, and outside of those hours each game costs $3. There are tables both downstairs and upstairs that can accommodate groups of different sizes, though the bar is only located on the lower level. The board games were not in the best condition, though the selection itself was solid. Most of the options leaned toward casual games like Werewolf, Exploding Kittens, and Avalon, but there were also longer titles such as Betrayal at House on the Hill and Catan. I do wish there had been a clear list of available games and a way to track what was currently checked out. We played Pandemic, and the cards were worn, with several pieces missing. The restrooms were also not the cleanest. There was visible residue in the drains and noticeable grime on the floors. Overall, cleanliness could use improvement. That said, the pricing across the board is reasonable and significantly cheaper than many other entertainment options in DC, which makes it an appealing choice despite its shortcomings.

Met up with a friend here in early October during my stay in Arlington. He suggested this spot as it was near his hotel room. Once he mentioned the name of this place, it reminded me of a location in the Clarendon area with the same name; one that was about brews and board games. I wondered if this place would be identical to that. Well upon entering, it hit me that it is similar but with fewer tables due to the size of the building. All the tables were packed with people playing board games such as Scrabble and Sorry. My friend was at the bar area since tvs were blaring there and we hung there. We sipped on beers the entire time and chatted it up. Beer selection does have a few locals and some domestic favorites; we switched between some IPAs and the Porter (forgot the names/types sadly) which were tasty. The bartender made sure our beers were always filled up which was attentive of him. The interior has some side tables at the front and more in the back along with some shelves of board games available for the choosing. Not sure of the rules regarding picking your game but this is a great concept in the DC area; especially if you don't want to drink alcohol and only want games for socializing. If you don't want to game and just drink, the bar area is there for that too. There's a good amount of seating at the bar and I'm glad my friend got a spot for us there. It's a clean joint that serves a good purpose. We enjoyed our time and then started getting hungry and realized they don't serve food. That's when we decided to saddle up and head out for grub. As we walked out the door, we talked about meeting up here again when I'm in Arlington/DC; maybe next time we'll do a game of Monopoly for old time sake!

We first stopped in here about 1am, after finally arriving at our hotel down the street. From what I found in my searches, this place was the only place open late in the immediate area. We were just interested in having a couple of drinks to decompress from our long drive. There were not many patrons here when we arrived and the bartender did not seem too excited to be there. Hubs went simple and just ordered beers. I ordered fancy cocktails and they were delicious! The Mulled cider definitely hit the spot. I wish we were able to spend more time here. There were so many games to play and the space was massive. I definitely will stop in again if we are in the area.

This spot is perfect for a chill evening with friends!! They have a big assortment of games of all types to play while you chat and/or drink. It is solely a bar without any food but you are allowed to bring in outside food which is great. I loved spending time here, playing games and talking. During happy hour the games are free, but after 7pm they say you have to pay $3 a game. (wasn't enforced while I was there but it was not crowded at all)

The Board Room is a great place to chill and play board games with your friends. The bar has a great variety of beer, wine and cocktails. The area is large enough for groups and also provides cozy spaces for couples to hang out. They host recurring themed game nights and other events. My husband and I only had time for a quick stop before going to dinner at a nearby restaurant, which is another good point, they do not serve food at the Board Room, but there are plenty of nearby eateries. We will definitely comeback. Thanks!

Ask the Community - Board Room

How old do you have to be to get in? It’s my 21st birthday next week but my boyfriend is 20.

It's a bar, so I'm fairly certain you have to be 21. There is upstairs seating though, so I'd suggest calling them to be sure. Happy birthday!

Is this a place to watch sports on tv as well as play board games? Or does anyone know a cool place to watch the Grapefruit Opener (Nats) today? Thanks!

Yes...there are plenty of tv's to watch sports

If you come with just two people, what are the chances that you can join up with another group to play a game? Is it that social?

Highly unlikely...but that just may be my experience.

My friend hosted a happy hour there, and I love when events like that introduce you to new spots. The drink specials were honestly amazing with $6 drinks, which is hard to beat. The food specials ended at 7 while the drink specials continued until 8, so I was a little bummed to miss out on that. One thing to note if you're ordering food, the four cheese pizza comes with burrata, which I didn't realize ahead of time. I'd definitely come back to try more of the food, especially the flatbreads since they seem to have a lot of good options. That said, I don't think the staff was fully prepared for the size of our group. My friend brought around 60 people on a Friday night, and it was clear the servers were overwhelmed. At times, it took over 10 minutes just to place an order. I don't necessarily think that's the norm, so I'd be open to coming back during a regular happy hour to get a better feel for the service. Great size bar as well.

Great spot to watch World Cup games if you've been looking around for options!…read more The space is fairly massive with plenty of screens, so even for popular games you'll likely be able to find a space to perch. I was concerned that for a highly anticipated match it might just be standing room only. But even with a 9pm start and a 9:30pm arrival, my friend and I both were able to find some seats. The bartenders were attentive while appearing to be laid back and kind. Even the food people ordered looked pretty good as well! If there is a good game on with highs and lows, the energy of the crowd really matches the energy of the game. Since there is so much space, those celebratory moments just feel joyful instead of overwhelming. Overall, nice lil vibe and I wouldn't hesitate to return!

This place is pretty huge, great environment for watching sports. They also set up outdoor viewing too. I ordered a Shirley temple, mozzarella sticks, Philly cheesesteak rolls, and our friend ordered tenders. The Shirley temple while flavored just right, was flat--I barely drank it and figured no point in asking for a new one of their soda was out of co2 or something. The mozzarella sticks were indeed gooey how you'd like it, the breading was seasoned good just not my fav fin. The Philly rolls were cold, like the center very cold but he didn't want to return them and said they tasted good he just wish they were fresh and hot. The tenders were fresh out the oil and perfect! No complaints, we ate em with bbq and ketchup. All in all we'd come back, it's lively and the service was good!

My spouse and I decided to treat ourselves on a beautiful Thursday night and - hold on - The Admiral was the place we selected. Ok, so it's halfway between our office and our house but even if it were WAY out of the way, we would gladly go there. The food is solid, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, the service is always perfection. This time I had the Filibuster Smash Burger. OMG so good! A 4 ounce burger patty topped with shaved steak, some sort of sauce that kept it moist and tasty and some veggies to make my doctor happy. The menu said the sauce had jalapeno in it but there is not even a hint of spiciness on this burger. However, it is a total huge mess to eat so I had to eat like a grandpa, cutting the burger with a knife. But I didn't care because I loved this burger! My spouse had the All American Burger and he put the server through his paces asking for every topping to be served on the side. Sounds like a mean thing to do but the server gladly satisfied his wishes. To be honest, my spouse enjoyed the burger immensely and added only the toppings he wanted, in the amounts he wanted and there is nothing wrong with that. Our server, Declan, was very friendly, fast and served us perfectly. So, another great meal at The Admiral with great food, great service and great times!!!! This is truly what a neighborhood place should be!!!

Cydney took my order, and although I had to repeat myself a few times over all the noise, she got everything PERFECT. I ordered the Lobster Garlic Noodles with salmon, and that was all I needed. With the crowd, I fully expected to be standing around until after 8 PM, but Cydney handed me my food around 7:45. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical like, "Wait...has my food been sitting somewhere?" Chile...NO. I got in the car, opened that container, took one bite and immediately started eating like I didn't have a home to go to. The noodles were HOT, the pasta was perfectly al dente, and the garlic flavor was GARLICKING! There was a good amount of lobster and shrimp, plenty of that garlicky sauce, and the salmon completed the whole situation. Meanwhile, the dine-in wait was running about 1-1 1/2 HOURS, so that takeout order felt like I had cracked the code. Thanks, Cydney, for taking care of me in the middle of all that chaos! I'll definitely be back whenever that Lobster Garlic Noodles craving hits again...because now I know exactly what I'm coming for.
