I took my BMW 535d down to BMW Seattle for warranty repair. Denise was nice dictated my issue into her computer, then sent me on my way.
I received a text message about 10 minutes later indicating they would update through SMS. Cool!
I received a call from Denise @ 3:43pm notifying me that they couldn't find any issues with my front right speaker. I explained to her I have several people almost everyone that rides with me notice how distorted the sound is from multiple sources XM, radio, usb, Bluetooth, and CD. She explained she would go back and discuss. I then received another call from Denise @ 4:38pm explaining that they still can't see any damage. I asked Denise how they are coming to this conclusion. She indicated they turned the radio on and listened to determine if the speaker is damaged. They turned the volume up loud and could not detect any damage. I asked her is that all that was done? You didn't take the panel off and look at the speaker? She said no they don't do that, they just listen. I asked: you do not have any audio testing equipment? She said no. I was perplexed. She said she would have the shop forman call me back. I said perfect. About 30 minutes later, the shop Forman called me (Sorry I don't recall his name). He started off immediately that they turned the volume up and several people just listened to the audio in my car and compared it to an identical model going back and forth with same music and could not hear any damage. I asked him you didn't take the panel off and visually look at the speaker? He said heck no we don't do that. We don't have professional audio gear here, we just listen and if we can hear the damage, we warranty it, if not, we do nothing. He continued on and on with a bunch of nonsense. He also was demeaning. I maintained my composure. I can't continue to just drive around listening to horrible music. I asked him if I go pay for new speakers to be put in and bring the damaged ones down, will they replace them. He laughed at me like I'm crazy and said heck no. As I'm trying to come up with a reasonable solution, he is going on. I asked for the GM. He told me he is gone, come get my car. I was some what more stern and said listen sir, I have been respectful and took your whatever attitude. I want a call from the GM. He then seemed more respectful and said he would have him call me tomorrow.
Events leading up to this:
I happen to take my car to a professional audio store prior to coming to BMW Seattle to discuss the issue. The certified audio engineer immediately heard the issue at low volume and high volume. He also used some device to validate what his ears were confirming. The device reported the issue as well. (Pretty Cool). This guy explained to me that my speakers are covered under my BMW bumper to bumper warranty. While he could sell me new speakers and install them, he couldn't just do that in good conscience without telling me that. He recommend I leverage my warranty since I'm well below the mileage.
I contacted my sales contact who transferred from BMW Bellevue to BMW Seattle. He told me yes it's covered, bring it on down, and the team will take care of it.
I came down and we went over to service. They wouldn't look at it without scheduling an appointment. Ok no big deal. I called from across the street the appointment number, scheduled an appointment for the following week since they were booked the rest of the week, then headed home.
So after all this, I will wait for the GM to call, if things go the wrong way, I'll simply provide BMW Seattle a preservation order, and determine if we are going to arbitration or I am filing a complaint in court.
It's sad that customer service and investment in client/business relationship ends after the money has been received and goods delivered. No one cares about long term relationship. I guess my next purchase will be at a non litha BMW dealer or any lithia dealer even if that means I travel out of state and enjoy a road trip back with my new rig.
There is a BMW in Bellevue and one in Pasco. I know automation owns Bellevue. I'll see who owns Pasco and purchase my X7 as soon as it's available from them.
This is just sad. Let's see how this plays out tomorrow. If we go to court over arbitration, I'll post everything l, evidence, transcripts, witness testimony, etc on. WordPress for all to review.
Wish me luck and for lithia to fall in love with the customer again...
