Tuna seaweed salad (lunch)
Eilleen L.

Blufish is consistently good. My recent visit was no exception. Sometimes, I like to mix it up and get one of their bento boxes. Their lunch bentos are an amazing value. It has a nice mix of a miso soup or salad, spicy tuna or California roll, and crab rangoons, fried rice, veggies and protein. Service is always great! It's why we always come here for sushi.

So much cozier with a more relaxed vibe than the Vernon Hills Location. Our waitress was respectful while my cousins and lil brother caught up and the edamamae and sushi was delicious.

Business lunch

Came here for a work lunch and absolutely loved everything we ordered! The place is easy to find, well lit and very clean. It looks modern and inviting, and we sat in a comfy booth to the side. It filled up pretty quickly for lunchtime after we sat down. We tried the edamame appetizer as well as another appetizer that I can't remember, but both of them were absolutely delicious, and then I tried the sushi combination B, which they let me sub the roll for a rainbow dragon roll, which was very nice of them It was so delicious and fresh, the flavor combinations and fish quality for the price can't be beat. It was a successful work lunch thanks to everyone's full bellies and I will totally come back soon!

It's been a years since I reviewed BluFish. I really enjoy visiting. We had reservations and were seated immediately. For the first time, we sat outside. It was a beautiful day. The service was also fantastic. We were greeted right away with bottled water and an offer for drinks. One of us had wine, and the rest of us had soft drinks. The menu is quite extensive - ranging from Japanese standards to Sushi. There were four of us and we ordered a variety of Maki rolls and Nigiri. Everything was delicious. BluFish is one of the better sushi restaurants in the north suburbs and one your should try if you've not been there before.

I have heard about BluFish Sushi for a long time, but we had another go-to Japanese restaurant in Northbrook that my beloved late mother loved, and we used to go there with her every weekend for more than 15 years before the pandemic, so going to another restaurant with a similar menu did not interest me. However, since fellow Yelp Elite friend Howard L. recommended BluFish to me, I had mentally put it on my to-try list for a while. Recently, both my husband and I decided to give it a try, and it did live up to the hype! Although the restaurant looked smaller in real life, it was chic and modern looking. We made a reservation for 2 on the same day on a Wednesday, a couple of popular time slots had been filled. When we went at 6:00 pm, the restaurant was bustling. We were promptly led to a 2-person table in the open dining room. My seat had the nice view of the sushi-making station, which was super busy. There was an area with all high-back booths, which seated 4 each. Our area was quite loud, fortunately, my husband and I could still hear each other. Our server, Kassie, was very pleasant, sweet, knowledgeable, and attentive. She truly contributed a lot to a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. For appetizer, I was going to order Crab Cakes, but changed my mind after learning that even with the wasabi sauce put on the side, the crab cakes would still be spicy hot. I ordered an order of Takoyai ($9)(six pieces) instead and shared that with my husband. It came out piping hot and was cooked just right, with a light and crispy skin and perfect texture. Just delicious! My husband ordered a Chilean Seabass entrée ($36) which had a generous portion. I was interested in getting some sushi rolls. You can pick long or short. Kassie answered my question that long was about 8 to 10 pieces, while short being 5 to 6 pieces. I ordered one long and one short to get some more variety, understanding that it would be too much food for the two of us. I ordered the long Green Turtle ($18) -- one of my all-time favorites, and a short Smoky Bear ($14). Everything was delicious, even though my husband said that the seabass was slightly overcooked. The ratio of sushi rice to the other ingredients was perfect, and all of that were fresh, tasty and balanced well. I have recommended BluFish to my other family members and relatives. We will definitely be coming back. I would be happy to try more different sushi rolls from their extensive menu.

Love finding a good sushi lunch deal that has great prices + quality! Solid option for the Chicago suburbs. It was surprisingly busy for a week day lunch hour, but we got seated quick. Our server was very friendly and everything came out quick!

Sashimi Salad

We went yesterday for a girls night out. Our server was fabulous and was very attentive. I would say some of the fish were a bit fishy for us but the sashimi salad, crispy tuna, soft shell crab, and the drink were great. I would for sure get the seaweed sashimi salad again if I come back. The dining experience and ambiance was good as well. They were well decorated.

I came in to Blufish for lunch and was so happy that they still have their lunch specials! I went with the salmon bento which comes with fried rice, crab rangoon, and your choice of California or spicy tuna maki. It was all very delicious and I love how their make their California rolls here. Blufish has a trendy vibe and plays what sounds like club music, even during a workday lunch. Everyone from the hostesses, servers, and bussers were very friendly. Food came out fast, but it was a bit of a long wait to settle our bill. One note, there is a large parking lot at this plaza, but finding a spot close to the restaurant during lunch on a weekday was difficult.

Bluefish never disappoints! It's always fresh and delicious with so many choices on the menu. I love their blazing Hamachi roll and lychee martini! Great service and ambience!

Sashimi
Arash R.

I can see this place is very popular, it was absolutely packed. It's not for us however. As the name would suggest, it's a sushi place, but the sushi wasn't right. The sashimi was too thick, the rice for the rolls didn't quite work. When we would ask the server to remove our plates that were essentially untouched, he never asked if there was anything wrong, and we didn't bother complaining. The tempura udon soup was perfect however, it's a standard to inspire to for the restaurant. We won't return to be honest. But objectively the ambiance is great, and the servers do try hard to ensure you have a good experience. They do seem understaffed and somewhat overwhelmed however.

Chicken Fried Rice

Came for a light lunch and left stuffed! Can't go wrong with the crispy rice spicy tuna and the caterpillar rolls is always a go to. Fried rice is a huge portion and always a crowd favorite.

Tofu steak

I do love the ambience at this restaurant, but my experience was not the best. Although friendly, our server was inattentive and made multiple mistakes. It also took a long time to get our food even though the restaurant was not busy. (Of course I understand there may have been a lot of carryouts.) I asked what the vegan options were and because I didn't want to have any maki, I decided to try the spicy tofu steak. I was told that the sauce was not vegan but still ordered the dish. When it finally arrived, I was disappointed that there was no sauce of any kind on it at all. It was extremely plain. I ended up putting soy sauce on it which made it better, but definitely not anything to rave about. Also, the miso soup was fish based so I couldn't eat that. If I come back, I will try the maki.

California Sunset, Spicy Fresh Scallop Roll, and Yellowtail & Scallion Roll
Jacqueline K.

They are so quick with the food prep - which was perfect for delivery! I got their spicy fresh scallop roll, yellowtail roll, and California sunset roll. These rolls are LARGE and are so filling! However, the yellowfin roll didn't taste great. On the other hand, the spicy fresh scallop roll was so good, but I didn't love the snow crab filling for the California sunset roll. I typically adore snow crab, so this was a let down. Since the highs were high for the spicy fresh scallop roll, but the lows were pretty low, I had to average out this rating to 3 stars.

I went with black rice, pineapple, masago, green onions, edamame, salmon, tuna, tofu, and some spicy sriracha. It was delicious. My son loved his poke bowl, but he did say he wished there was more rice. Overall, food was great, service was good, and the overall dining experience is worth a revisit. BATHROOM REVIEW: Located near the back, there is a men's and women's bathroom. In the men's, there is a urinal and a toilet. I always wondered whether to lock the door behind me in these situations. Well, I couldn't anyways, as the lock was broken. So I peed as quick as possible, to avoid being walked-in on. The toilet handle was hard to press but thankfully I got to the gym and it paid off here. Sit or squat? Squat.

It has become our go-to spot when we want a simple, relaxing meal featuring comfort food, or just a nice bowl of ramen. Our favorite dishes include: Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen ($15.99) -- This comes with three rectangular slices of chashu that are nicely lean, with just enough fat to add flavor. The half-boiled egg was cooked to perfection, the noodles had an ideal texture, and the broth was rich and flavorful. The portion was just right for me. Unagidon ($20.99) -- Fluffy sushi rice topped with fillets of eel glazed in a sweet soy-based sauce, served with miso soup. The bowl is full of flavor and very satisfying. The portion is perfect for me as well. Fried Mini Octopus ($10.99) -- We love the crispy, delicious mini octopus. It's a great appetizer to share. On our most recent visit, my husband ordered the Nabeyaki Udon ($17.99), which was topped with shrimp tempura, fish cake, tempura flakes, half an egg, and scallions. The bowl was tasty, but when comparing it with a similar dish at another Japanese restaurant in Northbrook at the same price, we found the portion at Nomu a little less generous. The other restaurant included an additional tempura shrimp and many chicken pieces, while Nomu's version did not include chicken. Because of that, my husband will probably stick with their ramen rather than order the Nabeyaki Udon again. All in all, we really enjoy our meals at Nomu Ramen and Izakaya. With friendly and attentive service, clean and comfortable seating, and a convenient location close to home, we'll definitely keep coming back! 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars.

Our waitress was wonderful, and helped us with some recommendations upon us letting her know it was our first visit! She checked in with us frequently, and made sure drinks were always refilled promptly! We had a bunch of different items, and all were very good! We tried sushi rolls, beef noodles, and ramen. I'd have to say that the beef noodles probably were the best item for me! This is an adorable sushi/ramen restaurant that appears to be family owned. It's such a cute little space and I saw that it had a lunch menu that I definitely need to try out. I went with my family on a Monday night at around seven and there was only one other patron there. I don't think the word has gotten out yet, but this place is going to get packed when people see and taste the quality of the food. Our waiter was great and super polite. We had great service and our food was timed and served perfectly. We started with edamame and gyoza and everything was outstanding. Super flavorful and very fresh. My son ordered the I Love Salmon sushi combination plate. He said everything was super fresh and delicious. He is quite the foodie and if he says something is good I believe it. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, which was outstanding with big pieces of pork in it and my husband ordered the spicy vegetable Ramen, which lived up to its name! I did like that there were vegetarian options on the menu. This is going to be a place that I go to regularly. Once people discover this little gem, I'm sure waiting time is going to go up quite a bit!
