The most horrible store ever !! The women well carol the manager were so rude to my daughter and her friend and saying very bad things to them when all she was doing was trying to find a lipstick for me while I was right outside in the car she said this isn't Sephora your not wanted here and so much more why is this lady the manager apparently I'm not the only one feeling this away after speaking to many !!! Hire people that are nice ! This WOODCLIFF lake store is horrible because of carol !! And not fiendly at all . Highly recommend not only Blumercury as a retail shop in general, but this specific location! I've been to several BlueMercury shops in NJ and FL and while all of the sales reps are knowledgeable and helpful everywhere, this location in particular stands out! There's no snobbery you might have experienced at retailers selling luxury brands. But I will, and have, driven the distance to visit this location because not only do they carry a good selection of sometimes hard to find product, but the entire staff is truly passionate about and experienced in the industry! They are all very helpful, listening, suggesting options, and providing the nuanced feedback very helpful when making decisions on pricey purchases. The samples are also meaningful! whereas in other beauty retail shops you either don't get testers or they put a bunch of meaningless manufactured test samples in your bag, I find that the team here really listens to customers and gears samples based on the conversation - the samples have often led me to purchases that became part of my daily routine. I highly recommend a visit! The location is great and there's a great selection in a variety of price ranges. But better yet, it's the people, their expertise and helpfulness that keeps me coming back. read more

I have to shout out Carol at Blue Mercury in Woodcliff Lake. I had been looking everywhere for a specific Olaplex Hair kit and no one had it. Sephora and Antrhopologie staff were very nice but just said they didn't have stock and sent me on my way. I popped into Blue Mercury and Carol, the manager, explained to me that no-one would have this kit because one of the items had been reformulated. She showed me the updated version (hair smoother) and we put a kit together. It was such a nice relief to speak with someone knowledgeable and kind and someone who cared about my search. She took the time to find me exactly what was needed and for my Secret Santa Gift. Everyone is always kind and helpful at this BM and Carol really saved the day for me!!! read more

I come to this store to buy 2 skincare products that I cant buy at sephora. The 2 women in the store totally ignore me upon entering. When I pick up my 2 items that total $250 one woman then comes over trying to blatantly upsell me on more products. That are similar exactly to what I was already buying. So not at all helpful/interesting/ or useful to me. When I told her "no thank you not today" her reply was "well are you sure?" Pretty lame desparately trying to get me to spend more. There were a few more basic things I needed hair, lotion etc but decided to spend my money at Sephora instead where atleast the freebies are better! The "free gift" they were giving out w $125 purchase were tiny little perfume samples, shampoo etc that u usually get for free. Other times in the past there have been friendly/ kind employees. Everything you want from Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy, NARS and Laura Mercier to difficult-to-find imports from St. Tropez, L'Artisan Perfumer and Serge Lutens. They also have Skinceuticals, Kiehl's, Dermalogica, Darphin, Dr. Dennis Gross, ReVive, Ren, Caudalie and MORE! 2. Their CUSTOMER SERVICE is OUTSTANDING! The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. They want to help you and add value to your experience, by education you in a fun way! They all have personality PLUS! A special thanks goes out to the make-up artist Carol. She has been in the biz for years. She is sharp, knows colors and skin types and takes the "guesswork" out of what you need and don't need. She is a true professional! I will go back just to see this woman, because she is an EXPERT. 3. They HAVE A SPA! How great is it to find the best brands AND have a spa experience as well? So many spas only carry "their lines under a private label or have a limited selection. They have brow styling, microdermabrasion, massage, facials and more! A true "ONE STOP SHOP" 4. IT SMELLS GREAT IN THERE! Between the amazing candles and gorgeous scents, beautiful delicate perfumes, etc... I felt like I could hang out there all day chatting with the girls! I can't comment about the spa services; I've been to BM a handful of times for the great selection of beauty products they offer. They sell so many brands that I'd normally have to trek to Garden State Plaza for or online-shop to buy. Everything is well displayed, if not a little overwhelming because of the sheer volume of products. And that's where I take issue with the store... their customer service is truly awful. When there are so many products to choose from, it helps to have help. I walk in, find their employers chatting behind the register while I browse the store. Yes, I can ask for their assistance, but I find it in poor form to ignore customers. I get it... the store is high-end, and I'm young. Still, that's no excuse. Now, I no longer make purchases at BM. If anything, I go to look at products I've been researching online and do my purchasing elsewhere. read more

I had previously shopped at bluemercury in another location, and was thrilled that they opened up this location in northern NJ. Regarding a previous reviewer's comments below - they may take a hands-off approach but I don't mind it. I like to browse the merchandise on my own. I think they may only put forth the effort if you appear to be a serious shopper and will actually purchase products, not just coming in to browse (not saying it's right, but kind of standard). I had briefly visited when they first opened and a staff member provided me the menu of services and encouraged me to browse or make an appointment for a spa service. Recently I visited here for a waxing appointment. I just got tired of the inconsistent results (and serious language barriers) from a local salon/spa, and had hoped that the aesthetician on-site at bluemercury would be worth the premium priced service (comparable to the local salon/spa pricing anyways). I find the location convenient from anywhere in northern Bergen County, with its location at Tice's Corner (lots of parking available). The lady who helped make my appointment was friendly and courteous. When I arrived, I had to complete a client questionnaire, and there is a small waiting area with comfy chairs outside the spa services rooms but separated from the store. The spa services room I entered was spacious, organized, clean, and bright. The ambient music was soothing and relaxing. The spa lounging chaise (bed?) was generously wide, padded, comfortable, and didn't make those awkward squeaking sounds. I was given a terry wraparound and had time, alone, to prep myself before and after the waxing. During the service, the aesthetician and I briefly chatted about skincare products and services, and afterwards she helped me with product selection and a few samples. She was courteous, knowledgeable, and most of all, professional. I am very satisfied with the waxing service - it was brief, sanitary, and comprehensive. I plan to return to bluemercury for waxing, and also to try out some of their other spa services. I also like that you can include gratuity on your card at the cashier. They also carry some of my favorite skincare / cosmetic brands so I will also return for product purchases. My only complaint was that there was another staffer (different from the aesthetician) who rang me up - and asked me to dictate my contact information, even though I wrote it clearly on the client questionnaire, saying that it was "difficult to read from the questionnaire then type in the information." (My sister and I looked at each other like, "Uhhh...") Then, I asked her a question about the make-up services and she got all flustered and didn't seem to know her services that well. *Note - spa services require an appointment. read more

On my first visit to BlueMercury, the ladies working there did not even acknowledge my presence whatsoever. They stood their talking to each other in hushed whispers while eying me and judging me. I instantly felt uncomfortable. The vibe was not inviting. I looked around and ended up buying a lipgloss. I do love makeup, so this place was right up my ally, except for the fact that the women there were not very helpful! My mother went and bought a perfume for herself, a couple of days later, unaware of the fact that they have bad return policies. You can only exchange it in for something else. She spent $100+ and decided not to use the perfume so she wanted to return it. They gave her a gift card for the same amount. My mother was outraged. A couple months passed and we went in together. A lady helped us (well mostly my mother) look for things. She was pleasant enough, but we later learned she wasn't necessarily knowledgeable in the beauty department. This was disappointing since she did work in a story that sold beauty related items. She recommended my mom this blush that my mom tried on, but sadly, it was out of stock. They promised to call us when it arrived, but they never did. My mom went and told them all their faults and the sales girl was speechless. She didn't know what to day. I will never return there again. Go to some department store, it will be 10 times better. read more

I did not have a pleasant experience at this Blue Mercury store. I had scheduled an appointment about a month early for a prom makeup application. Upon entering the store, the makeup artist had said that I "was lucky they didn't cancel my appointment the day before" due to a promotion going on in the store the day of my appointment. She had mentioned that they had cancelled all appointments after mine and that they needed to rush through my makeup so they could set up for their promotional event. The makeup artist never asked what I wanted or asked for reference photos. The began grabbing makeup and said "these will do" without even consulting me on what I was paying for. I had told her the colors that she chose were not the ones I intended to wear, however she applied them to my eyes anyway. I attended the prom with a gold dress and silver makeup! No thank you! My overall makeup application seemed rushed and my business that day seemed unappreciated. It may have been to my advantage if they cancelled my appointment in the first place. I do appreciate this makeup store chain, however my experience with the Closter location would keep me from recommending it to any friend. read more

The facial experience I had at Blue Mercury, Tice's, with Evie was the worst I have ever had. I always look forward to starting out with my steam, but Evie started out by slathering me with creams. No steam, no cleaning, creams on top of the day makeup I waked in with. Then, while already lying on the table, she stopped to ask me if I had a chance to look at their menu, which I had not. She then asked me how much my gift card was for. I actually did not know. She stopped the slathering to go to walk over and look at my card to find out the amount of my gift card. I was informed that it was for $150. She then began to urge me to get dermabrasion but that it was $180. I was confused. I was looking forward to the usually relaxing facial that I have gotten elsewhere, that begins with a nice steam, pore cleanse, and goes on from there. Since she had already started the process and stopped mid-stream to do this, I was confused. I asked her what the other options to dermabrasion were? (If I ever wanted to have dermabrasion, I would be in a dermatologist office, not Blue Mercury) I declined the dermabrasion. She then recited other more complicated and expensive options, and then I asked if there was just a regular facial available and if so, how much it was? Well, lo and behold, there was and it was $95, so I said I'd take that. I endured the rest of the process. It was far from enjoyable and quite frankly, because of the lack of pore CLEANSING and because of all the pore CLOGGING creams she put on me, I found myself cleansing my own pores for weeks afterwards. I will never return there for a facial! The balance of my card will go toward the purchase of some products. read more

I stopped in here earlier today (huge mistake), while my boyfriend and I were on our way up to CT. When I walked in, an older saleswoman (early 60's would be my guess), was doing a "makeover" on a customers eyes. As I browsed, I could hear the saleswoman say "no, this isn't a good color", then "let me try another one", then "nothing is going to cover those circles up entirely". Very clear she was going to keep going until she found something to sell this poor customer. Also very clear that she didn't know what she was doing (her own look was completely dated - big hair, bad tan, garish bright pink lipstick that only a twenty year-old can wear). And bad attitude. Within ten minutes she had tried five different concealers on this woman. When I passed by them, the poor woman had pale rings of concealer under her eyes. Clearly the wrong color and consistency (not to mention salesperson). I walked up to the customer and said "Benefit Erase Paste". Wellllll......the saleswoman turned the color of a lobster! Of course, Blue Mercury doesn't carry Benefit, so you can see why she got so mad. I also told the woman that very bright red lipstick under her eye concealer will make a huge difference. The saleswoman then snapped "I know all the tricks, and I know about the red lipstick. She's not going to do that every single morning!!!". Keep in mind she said this right in front of the customer!!!! I asked her why she didn't think the customer would take the time to do that each morning, and then guess what happened??? The saleswoman slammed her make-up brush down, told me that since I was such an expert, I could finish her make-over!!! Lol. I kid you not. She then stomped off to the cash register to make fun of me with the other sales woman. The customer thanked me and put the Benefit info into her phone. She said she was so disappointed with the saleswoman lack of being able to do something as simple as find a concealer. I should add, that while I was browsing, another customer came in and said she was told by the staff that "these colors were perfect for her" and got them home and realized they were terrible. So, she was returning items. This was such an awful store to be in. I smiled at both the saleswoman when I walked out and said "thank you, have a nice day". And Norma Desmond imitated me by saying the same thing, in a snarky, sarcastic way. Will never even entertain the thought of ever going back to this store. And corporate is getting a phone call on Tuesday morning, as well. But I will say, the gals at Williams Sonoma right next door made up for it - they were giving out free homemade ice cream!!! And who doesn't love S'mores ice cream on a hot summer day! read more

I adore Blue Mercury! A much nicer, more elegant experience than a crowded Sephora in a mall. Great, hard to find brands. I have been going to the Woodcliff Lake location for two years after moving out of the city and always return for facials and brow styling with Evie in the spa. I have tried many high-end places in Manhattan but no one seems to really know how to shape brows like Evie does...and my skin never looked so good. She is very sweet and knowledgable and really, really knows her products...many of the ones I use daily--skin care AND makeup--have been introduced to me by her. read more

The woman who then applied my makeup was super friendly and nice! I had my daughter with me and they even offered her a treat! They were not pushy about selling the product and just very very nice. I work in retail and always give sales people the benefit of the doubt, but my experience here was really disturbing. There was one other person in the store when I arrived. The sales associate did not greet me, but stood behind the cash wrap as I walked around looking. I approached her to ask a question which she answered. The other customer then asked her some questions, picked out some product and was rung up. Now just me in the store... still I have to ask her if she can help me. So she starts to help me, was very nice and sounded knowledgeable, but .... another customer walks in, interrupts us, and she leaves me to answer her questions, get her product and ring her up. Ok, I'll let it slide, she's by herself. Then back to me. Someone else walks in, interrupts and.... again she walks away from me to help her. Back to me now. Yup, yet another customer walks and she leaves me again. Hello? Can we finish? Do you know how to look at someone and say "I'll be right with you" or how about saying to me "do you mind if I help her? After the third time, I was done. Very inconsiderate.
