After a week-long road trip from NJ to Chicago, my boyfriend and I really needed a massage. So we decided to scope out some deals on couples massages in the area. We found the Botanical Spa & Salon on Amazon Local. So to make sure we could use the deal immediately (as in next day), I called before purchasing to make sure they would accept it. The guy told me that I didn't need to buy the deal and they would honor the price. You would just pay them instead of paying Amazon, so that's what we did. They happened to have a slot open so the timing worked for us. Turns out, it wasn't actually a couples massage. You're actually in separate, adjoining rooms, and they just leave that door open. That's fine but if that's the case, they shouldn't advertise it as a "couples massage." Other than that, the massage was nice - nothing to complain about, but also nothing to write home about. The deal also included an add-on service, which was either a back scrub or a foot mask. I opted for the back scrub. They were a little rough on that but it was worth it because my back felt really smooth afterwards. With a massage, you also get access to their fitness center, hot tub, and pool. There's also a locker room and showers but the showers are pretty dismal-looking. One of the two doesn't even have a soap/shampoo dispenser. I probably wouldn't be back because the facilities didn't seem too spa-like (especially when you're sharing with hotel guests, since it's located within the Marriott). Plus, I feel like I could find a better deal elsewhere. read more

I visited today to redeem a living social deal. It was for a facial, massage and two add on's . my facial was nice, very relaxing I had the mint foot mask during the facial. My massage was incredible, it was with John. I told him that I'm on my feet a lot at work. This past week was a very busy week and I worked close to 60 hard long hours. I also told him that I ached everywhere. He worked out every knot I had! It was a little painful at first but I was in bad shape. He found knots I didnt know I had ,stretched my limbs and worked on my flexibility. I feel like a new person. I've had regular massages 2-3 times a year for years and he was the best I've ever had. The spa is nice , relaxing dimly lit. Its a little odd that you check in next door and sit outside waiting to be called in, your basically sitting in the hotel lobby. A private waiting room would be a nice addition. read more

Came over Labor Day weekend and got multiple services for my boyfriend and I. We scheduled about 2 weeks ahead anticipating the holiday weekend. We had a really great day at the spa... The spa itself is fairly modern and feels clean. It shares the locker room/bathroom, pool, whirlpool, and sauna with the hotel. The hotel isn't brand new, so those shared facilities could use a bit of an update. But it's not bad. I would recommend coming ahead of time to take advantage of the pool/whirlpool and soften up before your treatment. Between my boyfriend and I we got aroma massages, a reflexology foot massage, a salt glow body scrub, and eye treatments. It was all amazing! The salt scrub was especially decadent and worth coming back for. Bottom line for this place is that you get an incredible value for a Spa. I've been to fancier places with more modern decor and newer facilities but those will run you double the price of Botanical... meanwhile the service and value you get here are just as good. read more

The one thing this place has over At-Ease is that it has the steam showers. My mom prefers The Botanical and she's been going there for years so sometimes we stop in together. It's nice that you can do couples showers (or mother/daughter as they're separate showers but right next to each other) and then get your massages either in the same room or with a curtain between so you can chat if you want. Sometimes I find that the therapists here are a little on the lighter touch side but the massage is still very enjoyable. I highly recommend the reflexology as well. It definitely adds to the whole experience! read more

Went back for a second visit for a massage only, in light of some of the troubles I experienced with the last visit. Still a little trouble with the front desk when booking, but when I arrived the receptionist was friendly, efficient & together. Massages continue to be 6-stars - Greg is A. MAZE. ING. Professional, courteous, really listens to what I want/need during the pre-massage discussion. Beautiful massage rooms, soft lighting, great music. Every time my 60 minutes is up I feel like I could lay there for another 120. I have literally never gotten another massage that holds a candle to Greg at The Botanical. Bonus! Complimentary usage of the (small) sauna, fitness room, locker rooms & pool/whirlpool. I'll be back yet again! read more

If you're using a Living Social certificate, remember that the deal is only for 1st time guests. You'll have to pay 20more for each treatment. It's in the fine print and kind of sneaky. If not for that, I would've given 5 stars. That being said, try to book Bill for a massage and Ghazala for a facial. They're both awesome. read more

This was a nice find! The first thing to point out is that the spa is actually located in the Marriott hotel. It's pretty easy to find just off to the right of the main lobby. I made the appointment the day prior for a 60 minute massage. It was great to get in so quickly, since I was experiencing a lot of discomfort in my back the last couple days. When I called they had three therapist available, so there was quite a bit of flexibility in picking a time. They offer a variety of spa treatments so it was a little on the busy side,and just a tad bit noisier than I'm used too. The entire area is set for a relaxing environment with darker lighting and it feels more like you stepped into an old warm pine box. I felt very comfortable my entire visit. My Therapist Annie, did amazing work and I left feeling much better than when I first arrived. She really targeted and spent time on my problem areas. I did not feel like the treatment was rushed, and that's always a good sign. The price of a 60 minute massage I originally thought was a little high, but for everything that was included, it was well worth it. A lot of what I would normally expect as add-ons, came standard with the massage. I'm only in the area for another month or so, but I do plan to make a return trip. read more

I received a GroupOn here for a facial and massage for my birthday. I am alittle bit of a massage/facial snob. But Botanical Spa was on par. I was very relaxed and enjoyed my time at their spa. Moreover, my facial was amazing. My estician, Carolyn, worked wonders on me and really discussed my needs/worrys of my skin care before she worked on me. Had a wonderful facial by Carey. She was super knowledgable about the products and really taught me a lot. I spoke to her the whole facial! I never do that, but she was so sweet and I enjoyed our conversation during the service. I wish they offered a full spa experience, but I find that harder and harder to come by these days. It would be nice if they added a quiet sitting area instead of waiting in the hotel lobby. Also offering some of that amazing Aveda tea would be a nice touch. This place is a beautiful oasis surrounded with trees and a brook. It was my first time there, I treated myself for my birthday. I first liked that it is an Aveda Spa. In just a few minutes with Carol, I could see how passionate she is about what she does and her wealth of knowledge on healing the body, and essential oils. This place is wonderful. Massages and facials are my favorites. A massage can be for de-stressing or to work out specific kinks and issues. The therapists here are pros and really know how to help ease those nagging aches and pains. The Botanical is clean and friendly and a great place to take a little break from the day to day. Visited the spa on 10/3/14 Had a nice experience. My First time in an Aveda sponsored spa. My first service was a Massage with Bill. I would recommend him hands down. He gives and extra special foot massage. I had a zen like facial with Dorothy. My skin is glowing today. Then I finished my day with a spa pedicure and manicure with Vanna. Would I go back maybe.. I'm giving the spa a 3 star because of few reasons. One part of the staff felt it was necessary to market the spa for another visit since I was using living social. I was still on the massage table. He could have waited till I cashed out. Also this is not a foofie spa. No thrill. No lockers. No amenities. I will say it was clean in the treatment rooms. But the bathrooms were gross and smelled like mold and you can openly see it in the bathroom stalls. read more

OK, the spa services were excellent here. Not high end as far as the whole feel of the place but still good. Massage and facial were both very relaxing and the aestheticians(sp) were great. Making the appointments was horrible, the phone people must have been new or just not cared, because I got a different story every time I called and also they didn't even have my first reservation when I called back to pick my add-on services. AND didn't even seem to care when I was expressing concern that our reservations SHOULD have been in the system. SO we picked another day....annoying. I didn't have a great feeling going in on this one but the services were actually good. When we went to leave the gratuities at the front desk, that left a really sour taste in my mouth...We had Groupons for the services and it seemed like a manager type of person was talking with us after as we were paying the tax and leaving the $$ for tips. She happened to let us know that "we don't make ANY money off of the Groupons, we only get half of the half", so " you are going to come back and make another appointment, right??". They should have had a different parting message for us brand new guests to the spa. It was NOT done very tactfully and actually made me a little uncomfortable with a few other workers sitting there watching this. She did offer to honor the Groupon price again which was very nice, but that was a real crappy way to walk out of a "higher end spa" after a relaxing spa day....it was very saley - not something you encounter at nicer spas in my experience. read more

I had such a pleasant experience at this spa. I booked a 90 minute deep tissue massage and a 30 minute facial. My massage was with John and he was very accommodating. He applied the perfect pressure and focused on the areas that had knots that needed to be worked out. The music was soothing and not distracting. I would highly recommend booking with John! As far as the facial goes, this was my first one! I had the pleasure of experiencing this with Ghazela and she was as sweet as can be! She is very informative and preventative in skin care. She gave me great recommendations and I will be sure to use a toner in my skincare routine! She offered different masks and peels, however with it being my first facial I wanted to see how my skin would react to the gentle exfoliation. So far, looks great! I am incredibly relaxed and will continue to book my spa treatments with them! read more

Holy cow, where to begin? Booked appointments here for an intended spa day with my friends. They both scheduled half hour massages and facials, I got an hour long massage. The place feels more like a booth rental ala some hair salons. The space is VERY awkward, and the implied locker rooms and robes/slippers relaxation spot was no where to be found for my hour massage, while my friends had robes waiting for them In their massage rooms, and one of my friends went searching for and found the locker room after a half hour of being abandoned (see below). For my massage I was directed to leave my things in the corner of the treatment room, making my Intended morning spent by the pool illogical and confounding. My friends had a half hour between their appointments and were offered a complementary health and wellness consultation which turned out to be an essential oils sales pitch, complete with catalogues. Seriously??? Then they were told the half hour isn't enough time for a facial, to which we wonder why a half hour facial is an option. One of my friends was left in the 'consultation' room without explanation while the other had her facial. Turns out the facials were scheduled back-to-back instead of concurrently, which was contrary to both what we booked and what was confirmed. A half hour later, I finally sought out this information on her behalf and rescued her from her robed purgatory. They cancelled and did not charge her for the service, but it was certainly not what we had planned. The only positives were the desk staff who were very responsive, and John and Carol who gave very good massages. Overall, if you're looking for a spa experience this is not the place for you. read more

There are times when you want Zen -- Botanical Spa can provide that (I've been going here for years!!!) But then there are times you want to kick back and have a great chat with wonderful staff, like you are longtime girlfriends getting together to gossip. Botanical Spa & Salon offers everything you could want. My husband and I have enjoyed massages there, both couples and alone. This was the first time they accommodated me and I got a mani/pedi done my Carol. It's her place and the pride she takes in her staff and her work is unbelievable. Carol wants to listen to your needs and your day (like an therapist who is doing your cuticles). She catered to my needs and understood I'm not a girly girl, so getting my nails done in gray and blue was a super treat. She spent time to listen and to laugh -- she and her staff (super high 5s for Nicole and Sandra at the front desk) were unbelievably fun and excited for us to have a great time. Having folks who want you to have a good time and the best possible spa experience makes the entire experience more than a treat. You want to go back because, like Cheers, everyone knows your name and everyone knows your aches and pains and if you want pretty blue on your toes! The Botanical is inside the Marriott so parking is not an issue. Always try to call a day or two ahead of time to get the time you want (even though they accommodated us since we were coming in from out of town). They are not pushy with buying "extra" services or supplies or goodies -- they advise you if you like what they used or what you smell (the place always smells incredible). They are on time and courteous if running late. You will feel like a million bucks without paying a million bucks. The pricing is more than fair and the results are absolutely wonderful! I cannot thank everyone at the Botanical for being caring and being a lot of fun. If this is your first or your sixtieth massage you are in for a treat. Take the time and make yourself feel indulged! read more

I did not have a good experience. The massage therapist complained about how long of a massage I was to get. I over heard her in the hall before the massage. It was very very rude. And the owner was very pushy about selling the essential oil package. It was not a good experience. I was very disappointed and will never go back. Not worth the money at all. I hate to leave a bad review for a seemingly-nice spa, but I have to based on my experience. *Pre-Spa* I recently got a gift certificate (purchased from living social) for a facial and spa. I called right away to make an appointment, which was pretty easy. They gave me a 9:30 facial and 10:45 massage. I thought those were odd times since most sessions I have ever done in any other spa begin on the hour, but I figured that they would know better how their schedules work. Fast forward 3 weeks to the day before my spa appointment when I get a call confirming my 9:00 facial and 10:30 massage. I called back to let them know it was 9:30 and 10:45. They insisted it was a miscommunication, but not sure on whose end (hinting that maybe it was me - um, no it wasn't, I clearly wrote down the times and even remembered how odd it was to begin a morning spa appointment at 9:30am). They said they could not switch me - either I come at 9:00 or they would have to reschedule me. I was annoyed - very. The gal said that they could make up for it by giving me two extras (a total of $22) with my facial and massage. I said okay. Then they were going to give me a male masseuse - I told the gal that I requested a woman with my initial appointment and that I would like a woman. After some more back and forth, and them having to call me back, they were able to give me a female masseuse. *Spa Day* I checked in and I selected my two extras - foot scrub with the facial and back scrub with the massage. The spa is nice, but small and a bit no frills. My facialist was Carrie and she was so amazing. Very sweet and did a great facial. She gave me a nice massage. The foot scrub was exactly what I needed. She even asked me if I'm a dancer because she noticed that I had callouses on the exact same spots on both feet. The massage was another story - TERR-RIB-BLE. I think this is the worse massage I've had in my life. Yes - that confident. My masseuse was, indeed, a woman. But she was texting the whole time - TEXTING! I was fully aware of it the entire time. There was no way I could relax when I was not getting a massage for the entire 60 minutes - there were some dead spots for about 30 seconds where there was no contact at all. At one point I even asked her if the massage was over. And the massage itself was not that great - I wanted deep tissue, which it was, but mostly she was just rubbing me down very hard in between texting. The facialist gave me a better massage! I could not wait for the time to be up - I actually considered a few times getting up and leaving! And no back scrub - but I didn't even bring it up to her b/c I just wanted to get out of there. So be warned - facial with Carrie = excellent, booking/service = mediocre, massage = possible texting and bad. read more

Donna at the front desk was a doll! I booked an hour massage with the add on of an eye treatment. However, when I was taken into the waiting room a very loud and rude man said "no eye treatments, were not doing them push the back or foot scrub." When a women, I assume Donna explained that was what I requested he said no, tell her it's not available. The other person in the waiting room just looked at me side eyed. The therapist came to get me and tried to give me some BS about how they don't have the stuff to do it. I told her I had heard the whole conversation and settled for the foot scrub. The massage wasn't great, it felt rushed and not overly relaxing. Her motions were fast and rushed. To top it off I don't think it was the full 60 mins as she tried to cram that foot scrub into that time frame. The room was cold and that is on Broadway very noisy. Needless to say for a quick and discounted massage fix not even really worth it. I won't be back.. read more

I have been here twice or three times (no Groupon). My last physical visit was about a year and a half ago. I always come with my girlfriend. It is a very small facility - no jacuzzis, lounging in plush robes, dim lights w magazines, or other amenities one expects at a spa. The showers and bathroom are dismal and are never properly stocked with both shampoo and conditioner. I do like that they let you use the pool for a while in the summer if you buy a service. Based on previous experiences, I would have given a 3. The massages thwmselves were good, and Aveda oils are just great. Based on last week's experiences via phone, it goes down to a 1.5 (I'm being generous with a two). My 30th Birthday was this past week. my mom, who lives in California surprised me with a Groupon deal for the spa, which would include a massage and facial. I was excited and called to book for the weekend after my birthday. Although it states on Groupon that they 'suggest' you make your visit at the same time, it's not just a suggestion. They require it, which can make scheduling more difficult. After finding an open slot, I mentioned I thought I had been there before (I wasn't sure if it was the same hotel/spa). Immediately, the woman said if I had been, I couldn't use the Groupon or would have to pay an extra 40. I explained it was a gift from someone who didn't know, and that I didn't want to pay for something that the other person wanted to be a gift. With tips, I would end up paying 70 for it. Basically, she said too bad. I called my mother and explained what happened and she agreed it was supposed to be a gift. However, before getting a refund, she decided to call and see if they would be generous enough to make an exception to their rule (Hilton Woodcliff Lake and other local spas do). The front desk girl yelled at my mother, a woman who has been in marketing/customer service management for twenty years, telling her there is no way they'd make an exception as they don't make any money off Groupons. So this girl is saying that the 1000+ services they have sold have been a loss to them? Right... We cancelled and booked a different Groupon and I will never go back. My girlfriend and I will be rejuvenating elsewhere - a place with less rude staff and better facilities. read more

Had a 60-minute massage here with Annie. It was great. She used a wonderfully scented massage oil and let me relax while she kneaded my areas of tension. I nearly fell asleep because I was feeling so relaxed. I got the groupon deal so it was only $52 for a 60-minute massage. Pretty great deal for the service. So this really was a nice place... but unfortunately we did not have a good experience A few weeks ago my sister and I went in for her birthday. First off, it's great that there is a sauna, pool, and hot tub to use as part of the hotel. We took full advantage of that. When we got in, it seemed great--very professional and welcoming. We went in and got changed. My massage was pretty good, but my sister was not happy. Her male masseuse talked to her the entire time as she was trying to relax and pretended he knew what her "problem" areas were when we had filled out a survey at the beginning and watched them read it. I almost forgot, they also did not ask us what kind of massage we wanted. They just did whatever. I'm assuming we had a Swedish, but we had come in for hot stone. After, they kept asking us if we were getting facials. We had to explain that we were there for the groupon and were not going to be adding anything on. We explained that at least 3 times and frankly, I felt a little badgered. Then to top it off, they had workers in the side room of the pool working on something. We were swimming in the pool and they kept peeking out at us. At some points, they were in there swearing very loudly at the machines. Overall, not a relaxing experience and I will keep looking for a new place. read more

Completely agree about the snippy receptionist Kristin B. mentioned in her review below. I do not know if I ran into the same one or if they have multiple ones. When I called to book my appointment I asked about the yelp special, at which point she said she had a $60 for 60 minutes special if it was my first time. I told her I would do that. When i arrived, and I made sure to be 5 minutes early I filled out the usual 2 page information sheet and waiver. I waited and was not taken into my room til 5:06 - I always check to makesure I'm getting a full hour. Now don't get me wrong - the massage was very good, my therapist knew what she was doing and she gave my a relaxing and deep massage. However after she left, and I started changing i noticed it was 6:01, so I did not get the full hour even though I was early for the appointment Then when I went to check out the receptionist told me I was getting the yelp special which was $22 off 60, and when applied for the hour my total would be $78 + tax. I said I thought she told me it would be $60 over the phone. I don't know if she uses bait and switch tactics, but she gave me a twisting answer about how 30 mins is $60, and she was giving me the Yelp special. I insisted that she told me on the phone that there was a 60 mins for $60 special. She gave me one of those bitch type faces and said it would be $84 after tax. Being that it was New Years Eve and it didn't look there was a manager, I didn't want to put up and just paid it. Moral of the story - confirm the price you will be paying with the receptionist when you get there. The massage on the other hand was very good - though she short changed me 7 minutes - if there is a diplomatic way of asking you get taken to your room a couple minutes before the scheduled time I recommend that too. And finally if you are paying regular rates - $60 for 30mins, or $100 for 60 mins, there are other places you can go to in the area and not pay as much. read more

I had a Groupon for a massage and a facial. I booked both with Carolynn, and I'm so happy I did. She was wonderful; talked me through every step of what she was doing, and offered add-ons without being pushy. My Groupon came with 2, and I immensely enjoyed them. She was able to put everything together without taking time away from the services, which kept the flow of the massage and facial going beautifully. My skin looks great, my muscles are relaxed without hurting, and the whole experience was just fantastic. read more

I had facial and massage there. Facial: It is advertized as 60 minutes facial. It was suppose to start at 11. At 11:10 I was called to the room. By the time I settled etc it was at minimum 11:15. When facial ended , I looked at the clock and it was 12:02.... Come on. This is not a 60 minutes facial. Also esthetician did not rinse my face properly- I had residue of mask left in my hair, face..... Massage: great experience. I would not be coming back for facial. Price/what you get is not worth it, sorry. I will consider coming back for the massage. read more

This was my first trip to any spa (and my first YELP post and my first time using Group On)...bear with me! For my 23rd birthday, I decided I would try doing a spa day using a Group On deal. I chose the 60 minute facial, 60 minute massage, and two add ons. When I called to book an appointment, I was greeted by an extremely kind and helpful receptionist. She made me feel very comfortable coming in, especially since I have never been to a spa before. I was also thankful that she asked whether I wanted a female or male masseuse because I would have forgotten to mention so. When I came in for my treatments, I was immediately greeted by the kindest and most warming esthetician. She went step by step as to what I should expect in the next two hours. We also figured out what kind of skin type I had so she can accommodate to my needs. The facial was so relaxing. I was quite nervous at first, but I pretty much fell asleep by the end of the treatment. I couldn't tell you how sweet the esthetician was. Then I was greeted by my masseuse who immediately took me into the room. She asked me what my priority areas were, and she even asked me what she should avoid (which I thought was thoughtful). The massage was great and I felt so relaxed after the whole two hours. Unfortunately, I had to go back to work so I couldn't hang around for the pool/sauna/gym which is offered to you. I will be telling my friends about this place. I am strongly considering bringing my mother to this spa for her birthday in December. P.S. the facilities were SO clean and that is SO important to me!! I think I mentioned everything I needed to... Overall, I totally recommend!! read more
