Sparkling lemonade cocktail
Sue H.

What a lovely meal! Some of our favorite whitefish of the whole trip was consumed here! We enjoyed a sparkling lemonade cocktail (with fresh strawberries) and an Alaskan amber while nibbling on their yummy smoked fish dip at the bar. The crostinis seemed greasy and almost deep fried, but I brought my own rice crackers so I was good. Both spouse and I ordered the white fish with different preparations. I got blackened with parmesan risotto and a creamy chipotle corn sauce, it was fantastic! The yellow beans are a nice seasonal vegetable for something different on both plates. He ordered his fish with an herb compound butter and roasted potatoes. Although we didn't linger, this was a super memorable meal we would gladly repeat.

pleasantly surprised by this place - wouldn't have imagined i could have something delicious and culinarily sophisticated in manistee!!! my salmon was cooked to perfection and my husband's white fish was also spectacular. perfectly seasoned and not too salty. i finished the plate clean! the veggies were also still crunchy and not overly seasoned. love the parm risotto too. so creamy and perfectly al dente. i tried a bite of french onion soup too and that was really good. would love to get that next time. had a very pleasant smokey flavor and it wasn't overly cheesy and greasy. the table didn't seem to like the seasoned heirloom potatoes - i like the flavor but it could be less salty and also more crisped up as it was a bit mushy. the place is huge and clean and the servers were very attentive. we had a party of 10 with a high chair for an early dinner - and we were very well accommodated.

Nice place next to water in Manistee. Their menu is very diverse and fairly priced. I ordered Brussels sprouts for appetizer and walleye piccata for entree. The fish was perfectly cooked; great balance of acidity with a delicious bed of risotto and some crunchy green beans. I could probably eat that everyday. The restaurant is kinda quiet and the staff is nice and attentive. To top it all of the view from the Resturant gives you all the feels, right on the water and the sunset was a perfect way to end the night!

On a quick little trip to Manistee, we stayed right down the road from BlueFish Kitchen. The location is prime for downtown and right on the water (though we didn't have a view of it from where we sat). The inside is absolutely beautiful and well decorated. Everything we ate was quite delicious and we were not disappointed. Our server even made a couple comments that we "hated" the food because we devoured it so quickly! While fast eaters, it was quite good and we enjoyed it for a quiet dinner. Both the Walleye and the Bolognese were really good and had hefty portion sizes. The french onion soup was a little lackluster, but it's definitely a hit or miss item and I would have loved for the broth to have a little bit more flavor. All in all, it was quite a good spot for dinner and if you're passing through town, you should give it a go!

Bar and dining room on a Sunday morning.

I had barely set foot in the door when the two bartenders at the bar greeted me warmly and welcomed me in and told me I could sit anywhere I wanted. I sat at the bar and as recommended by a local, I ordered the pepper jack crab soup, which was delicious. One thing to be aware of: don't expect real crab in the soup. Imitation only. But it's plentiful and delicious on a frigid winter day. The bartender recommended the roasted chicken or the perch, and living near another great lake and always having ready access to perch, I decided on the broasted chicken. I was not disappointed. It came with four pieces, choice, potato, and a choice of another side. It was way too its food, but I ate more than I thought they would because it was that good. I will definitely return to the painted lady!

Situated on a corner where two roads meet, this place has all the fixin's of a place with stuff on the walls. Classic hole in the wall pub decor, classic hole in the wall pub tables and chairs. It's one of this places where when you walk in, you're there. Locals, strangers, friends, enemies, lovers. They're all there. So come on in, pull up a stool, and let's get down to business. I will say service was great. I may be a little biased as the waitress said I was the only one in her section. But I'm going to instead assume it's because I'm such an amazing patron. Hilarious and handsome to boot. Or at least the hilarious part. Hokay. So. As much as I'm a huss for bar food, I'm even hussier for wings. So, naturally I ordered the wings. Bone in, as god intended. Buffalo sauce, as Darwin intended. They came perfectly saucy, perfectly temperatured, and perfectly in a little bowl kind of thing. They were meaty and juicy. Loved the flavor. I would eat my body weight in them, and my body weight is not small numbers. I kept the main course simple. Half pound burger, deluxe (lettuce, mayo, tomato, onion). Added mustard. Ketchup's on the table. Then as my side I got the sidewinder fries which are kind of like spiral potato wedges. The burger was pretty decent. The size was good, but the flavor was a little underwhelming. I'm pretty sure the patty was one of those pre-made deals that come in packages. I could be wrong, but that's just what it looked like. Regardless, if I had ordered a burger that was more of a specialty, there might have been more flavor involved. The fries though were pretty good. They're thiccc. Thick fries save lives. I have been here before, a couple times, and would certainly come back as their menu does have a wide variety of food. Don't be bashful. Creationism wings: 10/10 Burger WOW factor: 6/10 Chonky potato wedge spiral fries: 10/10

Much like the small, quaint little places of yesteryear. Typical diner decorations, typical diner servers, and typical diner patrons. This was textbook. It was super busy when I got there, but by the time I left there was probably a 10-15 minute wait at the door. But you know these breakfast places keep takin' 'em in and puttin' 'em out. Since I absolutely despise anything where all my breakfast foods are mushed together (pizzas, burritos, omelets, scrambles, hitches, macros, and fizzles), I opted for the more traditional route of "food on a plate, maybe touching a little bit." It's kind of like the difference between kissing cousins and married cousins. This episode of breakfast will be brought to you by: chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, American potatoes, bacon, and toast. Special guest, chocolate milk. I'm a little trollop for chicken fried steak. Or really anything fried with a layer of gravy. This one wasn't bad. Had decent flavor, gravy portioning was good. I would welcome it back like a close friend. The eggs were good as well. Since my body can only consume scrambled eggs, anytime they aren't runny or have that weird cooked-too-long skin on them is a win in my book. I would embrace them again like a long lost relative. The American potatoes (or how I always have to ask for them because I can never remember the name "those little potatoes that are chunks"), were good with the ketchup. Cooked the way they were supposed to be. I would sit next to them again on a bus. The bacon. Oh, the bacon. If you're a breakfast place and serve bacon, this will make you or break you in my eyes. The hardest thing I have ever found so far are restaurants that claim to know how to do floppy bacon. Limp bacon. Soggy bacon. Whatever you want to call it. They always claim they know how, then they bring out bacon I could harpoon a fish with. I want bacon I can tie together like shoelaces. Sadly, this bacon missed the mark. I would turn this bacon away at the door. Ultimately, it was a breakfast place. It did what it set out to do. Chocolate milk 10/10 Made up breakfast foods 3/3 Flaccid bacon 5/10

They only have space for 22 seats, and it was never full during our visit, it is intimate and welcoming. I made a reservation three months ahead, and obtained a seating for 8pm. We were welcomed warmly, and immediately seated. A mushroom broth "tea" was brought out complimentary. My friend who does not like mushrooms even enjoyed it. The service was perfect. Our server understood how to facilitate a tasting course, and the one very small misstep (under down steak for the member of our party that was pregnant, so it was not a being picky situation) was immediately handled without needing to be asked. The wine sommelier did a beautiful pairing. She offered the right level of presentation. Our group of four did the tasting menu. As they are farm to table, and the menu is constantly changing, it is not beneficial to discuss specific menu items. I do want to say the celery soup was representative of the experience, something I would not think to try or sounded amazing but was. My non dessert eating friend loved her dessert, she actually ate the entire cake. Interesting, creative, but not pretentious. A meal to be remembered.

First, it's in the middle of a neighborhood. The name is perfect because it's literally a house. Very small which explains the need for reservations. The biggest stand out for me was the impeccable service! Your glass is never empty. If you get up, your napkin is promptly refolded. This was absolutely 5 star treatment. You also receive several courses with your meal. The food was OUTSTANDING. The menu changes frequently which is awesome because you'll never get bored. There is an Ala carte menu and a tasting menu. I was told to expect two hours for the 5 course tasting at 3 for the 7 course. Being that it was so late we stuck with ala carte. I honestly can't wait to plan a full tasting but it will have to be well planned out so I can get earlier reservations.
