My husband and I stopped here because it had really good reviews and we love seafood. The restaurant is beautiful! We walked in at 11am and I was pleasantly surprised to learn they serve dinner all day long! They have some amazing sounding seafood dinners...I ended up getting the croquet monsieur with tomato soup and my husband got the grilled cheese with tomato soup. The soup is thick and hearty, the bread was thick and super crispy everything tasted so fresh! The food is out of this world. Soooo delicious!!!! I had the grilled Salmon & my wife had the Lemon Perch and it was like a symphonic boom on our taste buds. I love the Blue Fish so much, the food is always good. I have had about 5 of their menu items and I've never disliked one. The service there is great, the food gets to the table quickly and never cold. It's a great place for a date or a more formal dinner. My favorite menu item is the grilled salmon cooked to the chef's recommendation. It's actually my favorite food now! Whenever I feel the need to have a nice, fresh, filling meal, I go to the Blue Fish. I never feel miserable after eating there, all of the food is fresh and delicious. I ordered a black blue salad with mid rare stake bits as my entree and a blood orange pomegranate martini. The drink was too sweet for my taste and no alcohol. The salad was a generous portion. The greens were fresh. The stake bits were cooked fine but the meet was not the best quality. The salad had too much dressing and was too salty. I am giving three stars to this place for the reasons mentioned above and because the service was ridiculously slow. Sever acknowledged that the kitchen was behind and eventually brought some bread and butter to tide us over. Dip was good- a bit heavy on the cream and light on the fish. Let's compare this place to a Miami restaurant. In Miami Blue fish would be price prohibitive. In Miami Blue Fish would be packed. In Miami Blue fish the staff would treat you like dirt. Blue Fish is a place with tremendous potential. Locally sustainable foods. A killer staff and a great menu. I can't figure, where are the crowds. Yes, good for diners, but the chefs can knock it out here. Pork Belly was fantastic, cheese plate was excellent and filet mignon was with au pouve Was excellent. I stumbled upon this fabulous restaurant while driving through Manistee Michigan on vacation. Stopped at a stoplight on the highway, I looked to the left where a historic riverfront district on the Pere Marquette River beckoned. I'm so glad I visited because I found Blue Fish Kitchen and had an amazing meal. The restaurant is huge, situated in a restored riverfront building. It's almost two places in one. One the left is a charming period dining room with linen tables, upholstered chairs and the feel of a bygone ballroom era. One the right it's purely contemporary, industrial open ceilings, a modern open staircase and high ceilings. Open bar and tables. I was seated at a table overlooking the river and started with the appetizer, salmon crostini. Who makes house - smoked salmon? This place. It's absolutely unlike anything store-bought, tender, moist and delicately flavored. It was almost a meal in an of itself, but next I had the pan - seared tilapia, dusted with cornmeal and served with seasonal zucchini and a bed of risotto. Perfectly prepared, delicious and beautiful to behold. I was on vacation after all, so I treated myself to dessert - a slice of dense and fudgy flourless chocolate cake. I can still taste the fresh raspberry sauce served on the side as I write this. I had the meal a month ago! Meals this good are hard to come by. A meal like this while on vacation? I like the Blue Fish more and more every time I go. The atmosphere is beautiful - definitely classy for Manistee. You get a view of the river, the bar is big enough, the bathrooms are nice and clean, and everything just looks right. The food and service when they first opened weren't AMAZING, but they have come a long way. I recently just had the tomato basil soup and a house smoked salmon salad and the flavors were spot on - I couldn't stop eating! They have a small, but quality wine selection for the right price. We usually go to Blue FIsh at least once while we're in Manistee. Nice spot to class it up. read more

The bread was warm, crusty, perfect. The soft herb garlic butter made it heavenly. We both ordered lemon scented perch. It was perfectly prepared and seasoned, with a lovely hint of lemon in the creamy aioli. The risotto was perfectly cooked and flavorful. We do not usually order desserts in restaurants because they are often just sugar & fat loaded calorie bombs, but, because we had enjoyed our meals so much, we decided that THIS restaurant may actually have a pastry chef and know how to create lovely desserts with flavor and style. We ordered the flourless chocolate cake. We were not disappointed. Wow. What a great ending to a great meal! The dark chocolate creation was warm, deeply chocolatey, decadent, yet still seemed to have a light, quality...ahhh, a real dessert! The only suggestion I would make is that there be more shade for the outdoor tables. Since we visited in the evening and it was rather cool, this was not a problem. We could see, however, that if we wanted to sit outdoors mid-day on a warmer day, the lack of shade would have been a problem and could have made for a very hot dining experience. read more

I admit to being initially biased against this place when I opened the menu and saw a $35 fish and ramen special. What a gouge! But the lemon perch with risotto changed my mind. Delicately flavored fish, coated in a light cornmeal crumb--delicious! This is one of the best dishes on the menu, and it's under $20 to boot. Clearly others love it too, as there are many of photos of it here on Yelp. We made a reservation for 6 people and I specifically said we would have two dogs with us as they assured us they were dog friendly. When we arrived the hostess was anything but gracious. She told us we would be on the patio- that we would have to eat at two separate tables as they won't push them together (mind you we had two children and 4 adults). She was rude and not even interested in accommodating us even after I specifically said I had a reservation... unbelievable that a restaurant with very few customers would turn down a table of 6 people. Needless to say we left. I wouldn't waste my time in a restaurant that your first impression is a host who has zero willingness to make things right. This was a good spot and a pleasant quality dining experience for what we were expecting in Manistee (please don't be offended, Manistee). Local flavors - good fish. We enjoyed the pork belly appetizer very much. I had the seared whitefish which was perfect. My daughter had the stuffed trout which was good too (she devoured the 'stuffin' of gnocchi and spinach, which is a surprise since she usually goes straight to the 'meat'). My wife had the scallops which were tasty. I think the chef was extra cautious about over cooking the scallops because the tops could've used a little more sear. Good sides, good drinks (a local 'grapefruit' brew, a wine, and a root beer). Excellent view! If it had been a few degrees warmer, we definitely would've sat outside on the deck. We were so excited to try this place. Looks great. Good reviews. I had the salmon and risotto. My fiancé had the Chicago filet (bacon wrapped) and au gratin potatoes. My salmon was amazing. The risotto was pretty bland. Tasted like it was out of a box. My fiancé's steak was a really nice cut of meat cooked well (medium) but it had some overpowering spice (we asked and the server thinks it's fennel). Really killed the flavor. Started with the mussels which were a little fishy. If we had my salmon and his potatoes I'd give this place 4.5 stars. read more

Service was horrible. Never even got to have a drink let alone dinner. We have been here before and the service was not great, but acceptable. On March 1, 2019, we stopped in on our way to the casino for dinner at 7:00. Had to wait at the hostess station for five minutes until some one finally acknowledged us and sat us in the dinning room. Our server brought us our waters and said she would be right back to take our drink order. 15 minutes later I asked another server if she could find ours. Five minutes after that we left. If you are going to pay the prices they ask, the service should be at the same standard. We won't next door to the Fillmore.
