Agneau basquaise with red pepper tomato ragout and white beans

Not up to our expectations. Four of us came for an early dinner on a Thursday night. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server Patrick was personable and attentive without being intrusive. Good job. We have dined at Bluebird a number of times, but tonight was only average. On the plus side the steamed mussels were properly prepared and our server brought extra bread to enjoy their broth. The duck liver pate was as good as ever. However, the steak tartare was a huge disappointment. This bistro classic was small minced beef scattered on a plate with a 'dusting' of egg yolk (reportedly smoked egg according to the menu), rather than the traditional mound of diced steak. I suspect that the presentation was the result of management trying to keep the price 'affordable' - so they chose to use less beef...smoked egg was a dusting. One of my guests chose the halibut, the fish of the day, with farro and rapini. The grain and veg were attractive on the plate and very tasty. The piece of halibut, regrettably, was dry and lacking flavor. The crispy duck confit cassoulet with sausage, should have been named Toulouse cassoulet with duck. Toulouse cassoulet is a known classic French dish. The three sausages dominated the two small pieces of duck. Tasty, crispy duck, but not as expected. Again, perhaps this is a reflection of an attempt to economize. Dessert was creme brûlée and chocolate mousse, both traditional and nicely prepared. Good to have a positive ending to our meal.

To be honest my family and I did not have a great experience. We went for brunch at 1pm and were aware of the kitchen closing at 2pm. I so appreciated the first greeting and we got our first round of drinks very quickly, however it went downhill from there. The server could not comment on the champagne and had to bring someone else out to give us the rundown on champagne and then gave it to us in red wine glasses (which would be fine aside from a pointed lecture on how it gives "effervescence to the bubbles," while I work in the industry and for more expensive champagnes in my experience they should not be served in anything other than a flute). We were also not given a champagne bucket with ice which I've never experienced. Food came out 40 minutes after we ordered and the omelette, my egg on the lyonnaise, and French toast were cold. We were not checked on during that time and I think the food might have been sitting at the expo for a while. I think it is hard to mess up brunch, but some constructive feedback for the kitchen/management: we found the omelette visually unappealing (omelette appeared "sweaty" and undressed/unadorned) as well as the French toast had little to no flavor. We actually quite enjoyed the oysters, Salad Lyonnaise, and Croque Madame for their visual appeal and richness in salad dressing + well-roundedness of the croque. After we received our food we were not checked on until we were basically finished, but then our server took the plates away as one guest was still eating which I thought was rude. Overall, I thought service was lacking and food lackluster. My family has gone for dinner before which is when they said it was almost perfect - but I think brunch service can be improved!

Soupe aux Haricots Cannellini

Excellent experience! The chefs were excellent. I hope they know the food they created was so delicious and was changing lives in that dining room. Our server was great and very knowledgeable on the menu and had great wine recommendations. The Soupe aux Haricots Cannellini was creamy and delicious. The big chunks of bacon were pleasant and tasty finds within the soup as well. The beef tartare was perfectly prepared and paired well with the small pieces of toast that came with it. Every bite of the poulet toulousaine (sausage-stuffed chicken) was delicious. Each bite was juicy and very well-seasoned. The fondant potatoes were so soft and good. The knife sliced through them like butter. It was amazing and the Brussel sprouts were divine. I loved it.

We had Sunday brunch here during a visit to UNC. We sat outside, which as nice, even with the rain. The inside was bustling and a big loud, plus the AC was pretty cold, so the patio was fine. The service was very "Parisian"--they left you alone but were there when you needed a server. The omelettes were divine. We had the "supreme" which is off the menu but is a combo of ham and mushrooms. The eggs were silky and the potatoes on the side err smashed fried potatoes with caramelized onions. My son had the gnocchi which was quite good. The morning bun was the hit, though, and a must-get when you go. The have a pretty impressive bar program, too. I had a French 75 (since it's a French restaurant, seemed like the call) which had Theo house made pea-lavender syrup. It was excellent! Delicious, strong coffee too.

I'm very late with this review, so the menu might have changed since we were here, but I can guarantee that it will still be an amazing experience if you come to Bluebird for brunch! The four of us came for a nice brunch and ordered the following: Kouign Amann (Morning Bun) Fruits de Saison (Seasonal Fruit) Pain Perdu (Brioche French Toast) Oeufs Aux Truffles (Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs with crispy potatoes) Omelette Jambon (Ham & Cheese Omelette with crispy potatoes) Everything was delicious and service was great. My personal favorite was the Oeufs Aux Truffles - if you're a fan of truffle, definitely get this!

I had an appointment in the area and decided to explore the town for some eats. I saw this was a super popular restaurant in the area with great reviews and I completely understand why after visiting. The staff was super friendly and nice. They genuinely seemed to love working there and their energy made my bar experience that much better The food was out of this world. The Tartare de Boeuf was delicious. The beef tasted so fresh and went well with the crostinis. But the Confit de Canard easily stole the show. The skin on the duck was so crispy and added a nice crunch to every bite. The duck itself was also so tender which made each bite that much more satisfying. I've never had mandarins with a protein meal before but it somehow compliments the duck and sauce perfectly.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Bluebird recently. The weather was perfect and we decided to dine outside, although the inside ambience is lovely. I chose the salmon entree which was cooked to perfection. My husband went with the gnocchi and French onion soup, and thoroughly enjoyed both. Highly recommend for an upscale local dining experience.

We wanted to find a special place to celebrate my wife's birthday whilst visiting our daughter in Chapel Hill. From service to presentation to taste, Bluebird was excellent French cuisine. Full bar. Nice wine list. Highly recommend.

Another wonderful dinner and service at Bluebird. Our favorite person, Alex, was our server again and he always brings the great recommendations, good chat, and laughs. We went around 5:45pm for dinner and our food came out quickly, but we never felt rushed. Tried a lot of new food items and everything was outstanding as usual. The oysters were fresh and paired perfectly with their champagne mignonette and a fresh squeeze of lemon. The trout was buttery and melt in your mouth. The sauce and veggies created a harmonious dish filled with a balance of salt and acid. The roast chicken was some of the most tender chicken I've had recently. I loved the creamy mash and having all the components of the dish in one bite was perfection. I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed this seemingly simple dish. I was REALLY blown away by the pork dish. I usually don't enjoy pork as much, but tried some anyways, and I am so glad I did. It was incredibly juicy and well-seasoned.. didn't even need the sauce (although it was a lovely addition). The polenta was well-cooked and crispy on the outside. It was just okay on its own, but the sauce took it up a notch. The steak frites was great-- cooked medium rare and seasoned perfectly. Also, it was a nice thick piece. The horseradish was milder than I had anticipated, but was a nice bite all together. The fries were nice and crispy-- there were just a lot of them and some of them were a tad salty. The dessert was pretty good- a tad dry, so I could have used a lot more of the blueberry compote and whipped cream. The crunchy almonds were the best part. Also, would definitely be elevated by a vanilla bean ice cream. Always an amazing time at Bluebird and I look forward to my next visit!

I don't know why it took me so long to come here. It's fabulous. Service was very friendly and helpful. Interior was very adorable with white and black tile floors and decor to match. The open kitchen was gorgeous and seemed to be very well run. Food was tops. Everything cooked to perfection. Not a single complaint. Will definitely come back.

Bright, clean and a bit on the noisy side on a brunch Sunday. Food is very good. Service less attentive than other places. Will definitely return for an evening experience.

When you arrive parking can be difficult in this area as you'll need to likely find street parking. Walking into Jolie it feels like an intimate French bistro with a chic atmosphere, and lush garden rooftop. To be seated you'll check in with the host and then be shown to your table. We ended up sitting up on rooftop as we didn't have a reservation. Given this was a Wednesday and only one table was open I'd highly recommend holding a reservation. We proceed to the back of the restaurant and walked up a few flights of stairs to the rooftop. For drinks, I ordered the avant-garde (rye, cognac, caramelized pear, goat cheese), the la carotte (blanco tequila, carrot, ginger, thyme), and the apple spritz (bianco vermouth, calvados, brut cidre). All of the drinks were excellent but likely lean toward the style of the la carotte given the balance of flavors. For appetizers we ordered the bread & butter (Boulted bread with Normandy butter), Mussels au saffron (white wine, saffron butter, roasted garlic), and the onion soupe (beef broth, crouton, fromage cantal). All of the appetizers were excellent and the onion soupe was excellent as always. For my main entree I ordered the hangar steak (Bernaise + fries). I went ahead and upgraded to the truffle fries which were well worth it. Overall this was an excellent dining experience from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere and I can't say enough good things about Jolie. This is a must try if you are near person street in Raleigh and in the mood for excellent French food.

They had counter service this morning, where you order at the counter. Since it was my first visit, the young man could probably tell I was new--he greeted me right away and explained how everything worked. The space was clean, and it faces the rising sun. I'd already picked out the perfect seat to let that morning sunshine shine right in. The lemon ricotta pancakes had been calling my name for a while. The young woman at the counter let me know they're soft because of the ricotta. I appreciated the heads-up, since the texture is different from a regular pancake and someone might otherwise think they weren't fully cooked. They were absolutely out-of-this-world amazing! I ordered the three pancakes and only afterward noticed that you can order them individually. Three was definitely too many for me--I made it through two and was stuffed, so I left one lonely pancake behind. I also ordered a side of bacon to add some protein. They also have the cutest little French market inside, with a whole freezer full of items you can take home and bake yourself. And they just introduced some new menu items today, which will be around for the next couple of months: pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes, braised short ribs, beignets, and a savory Dutch baby. If you're ever downtown, stop by and give this place a try! Ciao for now!
