Got a to-go vegetable burrito. The vegetables inside tasted like an italian mix! Like they put an antipasto salad inside of a tortilla. It had green beans (?!) and a ton of olives! The mushrooms look like they were canned or something too. I watched as they piled fistfuls of cheddar cheese on every entree and then nuked them in the microwave!! Stopped in last night to see what everyone was yakking about. As I was sitting at the table I pulled up the yep app on my phone and searched the best burger and guess who it was, yep the blue tomato. For appetizers we had chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like tomato paste wasn't crazy about it. But the food was great. My wife and daughter split the Tomale plate and me and my son each had a cheese burger. Wow I was shocked it was very good. We will be back again. read more

Disappointed would be an understatement for this visit to Blue Tomato. I have enjoyed every time I have been there for the past 15 years. Met a friend there last night and I was taken by surprise how the owner and manager handled our complaint. We both ordered taco salads, hers was shrimp and mine was beef. At my second bite I noticed the meat was cold as ice as was the taco shell bowl. I asked my friend if hers was the same and it was. We called the waitress over to bring this to her attention. She asked if we would like some warm shrimp and beef to add to our salads and we agreed that would satisfy us. When we were handed the bill there was a price scratched out and another was written below it. There was a $7 difference. I had a feeling I knew what caused the difference so I asked the waitress if they charged us for the warm meats and sure enough they did. We were told that it was a decision that the owner and manager thought was appropriate when they asked our waitress what our complaint was. This was the offer that the waitress suggested and never once said we would be charged extra. This is the first time that I have ever seen a restaurant charge their patrons extra to please a dissatisfied customer. read more

My mother and I stumbled upon the Blue Tomato and boy are we lucky?! The service was helpful and super knowledgeable about the menu. The food was out of this world! We brought more home to my husband! My mother said those were the best tamales she has EVER had and she is a tamale connossieur! Great place, will definitely be back! read more

I have been driving by the Blue Tomato forever and never ventured in. It's not what you expect walking in the door...it's kinda campy (wine bottles hanging from the celing and not a notion of daylight getting in there!), it really seems more inviting on the inside than it does from the outside. The service was very good, I think everyone who was working there asked how we were doing or if we needed anything. We had the garbage can nachos last night which were really good...piled with everything! We talked about getting two entrees but after seeing the nachos decided to just get the burger & fries and split them and we both walked out of there stuffed. The burger & fries were both really good too...above average for sure! In that whole Elmwood area (well, just out of the Elmwood area) I think this is a real keeper! read more

Very diverse menu, if you are trying to please a bunch of different tastes this is the spot! I can't believe how cheap the food is for the quality of it, you get more than what you pay for. Meh. Had a weekday lunch there with co-workers. Friends had been very happy with their experience here, but I wasn't nearly so. Not that it was bad, just not great. Fish tacos dry and ordinary. Wait staff was so-so, definitely not trying very hard to earn their tip. Just not impressed overall. Other places within 5 minutes with better food, service and cleanliness. We ordered takeout and had a drink while waiting. The service was great, very friendly and prompt. However, when we got home to eat... The pulled pork with slaw tasted ruined, or sour. My boyfriend didn't finish it and left it in the fridge, and it smells even worse today. It will be thrown away. We didn't get sick, so maybe it was a flavor of the meat issue. The burger was pretty good, but could have been cooked a little bit less. If we try them out again it will be for something totally different. Just don't order the pulled pork. It is hit or miss. A lot of misses lately. Soggy taco salad and chimichangas. Whoever is answering phone and taking orders is quite rude. I've learned to be patient when placed on hold. I give Blue Tomato 3.4 stars. The place is small and dank with all the windows blocked off by curtains/mexican blankets. Inside it is still dark and a little dank, but when we went it was full of families. The food was pretty decent, the stuff that we got had a lot of cheese. It's a decent value, you can get the chimichanga dinner w/ beans and rice for 11 bucks. If I was in the area, I would return here, but it's not worth driving too far for it. read more

This place is pretty good. The biggest draw here is the variety on the menu. They literally have something for everyone. They have parking and service was good but the atmosphere seems a bit cramped. The prices are very reasonable though making a good lunch spot of your nearby. The food was pretty good. Little one enjoyed her spaghetti the most. read more

My husband and I love this place. Everything we have ever gotten here has been delicious! My husband usually gets the ribs or lasagna and I usually get tacos or the salmon. The spinach and artichoke dip was good also but I wasn't sure if it made fresh or processed food. The tortilla was cooked perfectly. It came with sour cream and pico but the pico did not taste good. What a great little hidden gem! We were looking for something different and this is definitely it. Loved the atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. They serve everything from Mexican to Italian and American. We had such a hard time deciding on what to get because everything sounded so good. My husband got the steak fajitas and I got one of their burgers. We were not disappointed. My burger was huge. I was able to add grilled onions mushrooms and even jalapeños. My husband said the guacamole was delicious. The lemonade even tasted freshly squeezed. All this for very reasonable prices. Our total with chips and salsa was under $28! read more

I love it but it is what it is! Divey, cramped and dark with great service. Some guests aren't fans of the salsa but they also have another salsa they you can order that costs a buck. They food is oversized and tasty and the service is always great. My only complaint is that the tea always tastes watery as ice sits in the pitcher and melts. A great little place. read more

OK, I eat here alot, and have for a loooong time, so this review is obviously biased. The Blue Tomato serves my favorite ribs in the city. Smoked without being too smokey, cooked long enough to break down into juicy, tender meat, and the bones almost fall out on their own. The rest of the menu is really good, and I have been through it. I ate shrimp tacos for lunch here yesterday and fell severely ill with food poisoning. Accidents happen, but Restaurants need to make sure cooks wash hands with soap frequently, dishes are clean and food is stored at right temperatures. My husband and I moved to Old Metairie about a year ago with our 2 year old and I have to say that Blue Tomato is our absolute favorite restaurant in the area. The servers are always so very friendly and try in every way to make sure we (especially my toddler) are happy and comfortable. I went on a date here and it was so delicious. I ordered the Greek Salad with Shrimp. The salad was big enough for two people to share. I've never left a Yelp review before but I knew I had to come on here to rave about that Greek Salad. Hands down the best salad I've ever had in my life. My date had the soup of the day and we also had chips and salsa dip. All were very good. The service was also fast and kind. Our server was a beautiful light haired woman who got us everything we need with a smile. There was also another beautiful woman who worked there that checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. this place is great! Service was very prompt and friendly, I tried their Bloody Mary, it came in a plain small glass, didn't look like much, but it tasted great! You can definitely tell they put some BBQ style ingredients in it. I went with the Pulled Pork Sandwhich for my meal, it was a tough decision but after I devoured it I was happy I went with it. It had just enough juice to leave me a little puddle in my plate to dip my sandwhich in, but didn't make the bread soggy. Our server did not seem interested in our table at all. Or most of her tables to be truthful. It was busy, but not full. She barely greeted us, and only checked with us once. She did not bring our check, the other server did and then wouldn't take the payment. So we finally just left cash lying on the table and walked out. Very disappointed. What can you say about this place? The owner is a very nice person, who actually cares about her customers. The staff is very nice and never forgets to refill drinks etc. and the chicken burrito is to DIE for. Also, the Chicken Alfredo is very good.
