The first time I was very pleased, Santos and his guys were friendly, and Santos especially very knowledgeable and they all did great work in a cheerful and friendly manner. The 2nd and most recent time however I'm not sure why, but they seemed like a different company from a "care" perspective. This company allowed huge limbs to crash down onto my lawn leaving craters in the lawn 6-8" deep and 4ft long (see pics). They also let a huge limb fall on my hedge out front, breaking it literally in two. I realize accidents can happen, but who cuts off 25 foot long limbs and let's them crash 20-30 feet to the ground, onto a customer's hedge, lawn and driveway? They did finally use ropes when I pointed out the holes and the damaged hedge, but by then it was too late. I really like these guys, and I still think they're good people but I was very disappointed they did not make any effort to compensate or repair the damage. I now how four large dangerous and unsightly holes in my lawn, surrounded by dead grass that was uprooted as a result of the impact. I even recommended them to my neighbor who immediately hired them to do their dead trees as well. Thank God they didn't treat the neighbor's property the way they did mine.

Santos responded to my inquiry right away, came on time, and gave me a fair estimate. Even better, he was able to complete the job the same day! In a certified Sunday miracle, it barely clipped my gutter (which hung on!) and landed square in between our houses, roofs no worse for the wear. I still found myself feeling a bit uneasy with the tree so close though, so reached out on Yelp to Texas Tree Doctors to take a look. Nicholas responded immediately and was able to come out just a couple hours later. Nicholas is a wealth of knowledge and was kind to answer basically every question I had in my free consult. He offered some really practical remediation in the form of a nutrient treatment that would help get the tree healthier and more supple so it'd be less likely to break in the future. For hardly any extra he offered to haul away the big branch as well. He also ballparked a cost for removing the tree entirely - all quotes seemed really fair. Ultimately, the tree is on the other side of the property line so removal is up to my neighbor, but I appreciate how straightforward it was to get someone with Nicholas's experience to take a look. If we decide to give some love (or destruction) to the tree he'll be the first guy I call.

I called Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals based on an advertisement from one of the circulars we get…read moreevery week. I called to inquire about a big maple in our back yard that had not leafed out. John, the owner, came out the next day and took a look at the tree - turns out it had an incurable fungal disease and needed to come down. After discussing the process by which this would take place, we also looked at the other trees in the yard. Most were OK, but each had its small issues that could be remediated with the help of a professional. One, for example, was infiltrated by a neighbor's tree and needed help reaching the sun. Another had girdling roots, and all needed to be cleaned up and shaped. Additionally all needed the root collars exposed from the sod that had grown around over the years. John was able to get a crew here the very next day to work on taking the big maple down and clean up the trees. The crew arrived at 10, not too early but right on time, and worked diligently all day. By the end of the day, the 35-foot maple was in pieces on the truck, with no damage to surrounding trees, our lawn, or our brand-new patio wall or bricks. The other trees were pruned and shaped as well. The original schedule was for the stumps to be ground the next day, along with the root collar exposure via a tool called an "air spade" but mechanical difficulties prevented that from immediately happening. Nonetheless, John and Mike were on top of communicating with me and I never felt like they were going to abandon the job halfway done. Mike was able to come out mid-week and grind the maple stump, plus a cedar stump in the front yard that had been left over from previous work. Just yesterday he was able to come back with the air spade and clear around the root collars, prompting this review. I will say that in every way Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals more than met the standard of the "Professional" in their name. The price for the entire job was in line with expectations, and perhaps even a bit below what I thought it might cost. John didn't try to upsell me on things I didn't need, but explained the benefits of each procedure. The actual work done by the crew and also by Mike in the stump grinding and air spade work was also first-rate. Moreover, everyone was very polite and friendly, and I had great conversations with each crew about how things were going. I also feel like I learned a lot about tree maintenance and care, and will follow the recommendations to keep the trees as healthy as possible. We are more than pleased with the quality of the job, and highly recommend Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals to anyone who needs tree maintenance in the Austin area.
