I called Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals based on an advertisement from one of the circulars we get every week. I called to inquire about a big maple in our back yard that had not leafed out. John, the owner, came out the next day and took a look at the tree - turns out it had an incurable fungal disease and needed to come down. After discussing the process by which this would take place, we also looked at the other trees in the yard. Most were OK, but each had its small issues that could be remediated with the help of a professional. One, for example, was infiltrated by a neighbor's tree and needed help reaching the sun. Another had girdling roots, and all needed to be cleaned up and shaped. Additionally all needed the root collars exposed from the sod that had grown around over the years. John was able to get a crew here the very next day to work on taking the big maple down and clean up the trees. The crew arrived at 10, not too early but right on time, and worked diligently all day. By the end of the day, the 35-foot maple was in pieces on the truck, with no damage to surrounding trees, our lawn, or our brand-new patio wall or bricks. The other trees were pruned and shaped as well. The original schedule was for the stumps to be ground the next day, along with the root collar exposure via a tool called an "air spade" but mechanical difficulties prevented that from immediately happening. Nonetheless, John and Mike were on top of communicating with me and I never felt like they were going to abandon the job halfway done. Mike was able to come out mid-week and grind the maple stump, plus a cedar stump in the front yard that had been left over from previous work. Just yesterday he was able to come back with the air spade and clear around the root collars, prompting this review. I will say that in every way Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals more than met the standard of the "Professional" in their name. The price for the entire job was in line with expectations, and perhaps even a bit below what I thought it might cost. John didn't try to upsell me on things I didn't need, but explained the benefits of each procedure. The actual work done by the crew and also by Mike in the stump grinding and air spade work was also first-rate. Moreover, everyone was very polite and friendly, and I had great conversations with each crew about how things were going. I also feel like I learned a lot about tree maintenance and care, and will follow the recommendations to keep the trees as healthy as possible. We are more than pleased with the quality of the job, and highly recommend Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals to anyone who needs tree maintenance in the Austin area. read more

Today we hired another tree company to remove a pine tree that Arbor Oaks killed 2 years ago. We paid Arbor oaks for the trimming and John refused to refund the money, even though he admitted his crew messed up. He also said he would take care of the removal, but of course we never heard back from him. I would caution anyone using Arbor Oaks. We are using Brent's Tree service from now on. read more

This company did a fantastic job on the dead tree in my backyard. They also cleaned up the tree in the front and cleared out the hackberry and ligustrum trees in the back. My neighbor saw how good they were and hired them to clean up her live oak trees. Now both of our houses look great! read more

I receive a mailer at my house advertising Arbor Oaks tree service which looked professional so I gave them a call. They gave me an appointment at my house for Friday at noon to 1 PM. So my wife and I waited and no one showed as the clock went to 12:45 PM. My wife received a call that the arborist did not work on Friday and gave us a new appointment for The next day Saturday at 1-2 PM. Again no one showed so they are off my list for potential tree trimmers. read more

I needed someone to check out my 17 year old red oak because my new neighbors decided to dig down and remove a large part of the root that was buried deeply in their back yard. Arbor Oaks was the only company I was able to get immediately. They charged me over $5,500 for that tree as well as trimming 3 oaks out front. They left many branches still attached to the tree so there are a bunch of dying branches hanging. I've tried to call them to get them to come finish what they started and they won't acknowledge me. I had two trees and several other large plants trimmed today by Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals. The job was done in a very professional manner, both from the owner John and from their team. They know their work very well, provided expert recommendations on specific pruning approaches. After doing the trimming, all cuts were painted to prevent tree damage from insects or water loss. They cleaned up so well, including branches that had to drop over my fence line. Managing a good neighbor policy. You can tell John takes care of his employees from what they said to me. John runs an impressive company. A few years back, he planted a red oak to replace a Monterrey oak that was leaning toward the roofline of my home. He selected an excellent tree that was straight and healthy. Any minor damage incurred during the removal and planting process was repaired, replaced and made whole again. But today, John escalated my already high opinion of his work and integrity to a new level. Yesterday, a break occurred in the water main from the street to my house. When the plumbers arrived today, they isolated the problem to an area adjacent to where John had planted the red oak several years back. Apparently John had accidentally hit the water line and attempted to make the repair. The plumbers determined that John's repair job had been compromised. I immediately called John and was pleasantly surprised when he took complete responsibility without hesitation or manufacturing excuses. He offered to take care of the entire plumbing bill and paid it on the spot. Not only did this action resonate with me, John's honesty and willingness to admit his unintentional mistake made an impact on the two plumbers working on site. "WOW...what a stand up guy". Typically, people try to pass the buck and blame someone else whenever something goes wrong that will require substantial funds to repair. But not John....he made it right and made it right AT ONCE! Arbor Oaks, John and Ronny and their teams, have worked for us twice and, both times, their work has been just great - competing an itemized, clear proposal for a motley group of items, requesting when it's convenient to come, completing the work efficiently and promptly, cleaning up thoroughly and completely (even fallen leaves they had not affected) - and completing a difficult job successfully (grinding juniper stumps located in a brick-lined raised bed about 18" above the surrounding yard with no damage to the bricks). John and his team were great. He did a relatively large job on my property (fully removed 3 large trees and did a very detailed trimming & raising of canopy on two large live oaks). He estimated the job would take a full day and it definitely did. The cleanup was what really impressed me. I came home from work and the guys just finished up. Disappointed does not even begin to describe my experience with Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals. When I first contacted them they were very prompt at responding to the potential for new work. At the completion of the job, I discovered 3 pipes were broken and the ground irrigation control unit was smashed. They were not quick to return my calls to address this. When they finally did return to talk to me it was with the expectation to be paid in full and to be told that they would not fix any of the items they broke. In their words, I would have to hire someone else and pay for it myself to fix what they broke. I am a senior citizen that does not have unlimited resources and they took advantage of me by doing careless work. It cost me an additional $600.00 to hire someone else to tidy up their mess. I do no recommend Arbor Oak Tree Professionals unless you enjoy experiencing aggravation. read more

I reached out for an estimate to move a tree that was planted 2 years ago and left a message on a Friday. They returned my call and seemed a little exasperated but I thought maybe they were just busy. They said they would come by and look on Monday and give me an estimate. Great work. I called for quote and John the owner was able to come out same day. He was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us different options to fit our budget. After taking a few days to think about it, I decided to go with them for the job based on how knowledgeable the owner was and how he was upfront and seemed to be working with us to reach a deal. His crew was able to start same day and they were fantastic. Got the job done fast and very meticulous. My large oak tree had so much ball moss but they plucked off virtually every piece. They also ensured the tree branches weren't rubbing up on my roof any longer. It's nice to be able to see the sunset through the canopy while still getting nice shade all around. In April 2019 we hired the services of Arbor Oaks Tree Professional to do up our back yard. John MaCuk the owner decided to take on the job himself. We awarded John the project as he seemed to have sincere intent and stated that his reputation mattered more than the money. Unfortunately his work was a nightmare, extremely amateurish and created a big mess, rather than what he was originally hired to deliver. Since I was travelling midway through the job, I had noticed that John had made a mess on our driveway which he promised to power-wash. Furthermore he stated that his bobcat hit an irrigation line but fortunately no damage was done. Upon completion, in my absence and trusting him to be a man of his word I transferred the remainder amount. However upon my return I was shocked to find that the drive was messed up, the dirt was not evenly spread with tire tracks evident, John had destroyed 3 irrigation lines and the main valve, my backyard was actually converted into a pool of swamp. I tried contacting John several times on his mobile and Facebook but he never did answer. The bottom line being that John's work will now cost us much more in repair and damage control which is unfortunate since he breached our agreement and has since ghosted. read more

I want to share my experience with Arbor Oaks Tree Professionals Inc., in a word - EXCELLENT. I had a dead oak tree in my front yard & hackberry limbs growing over the fence in my backyard. The limbs were carefully cut & lowered to the ground with no damage to my fence nor young trees that were growing beneath the limbs. The oak tree was easily cut down and removed with a thorough grinding of the stump. The 4 - 5 member teams made short work of a big project. We had John and his crew out last week. We had some trees removed, trees trimmed up, ball moss removal and they even did our hedges! It had been at least 5 years since we last had the trees done and what a transformation. They brought canopies up, cut out all the shooters and dead wood and did shaping as well. After pruning my neighbor's trees, the crew came immediately to my yard and pruned all my trees...then completely removed a 40 year old Arizona Ash for me. All this was done in 100 degree weather, and they never slowed down. The crew only took a couple of short breaks during that time and were back at it again ! This review is on the process NOT the tree trimming as we didn't even get that far. On the day we called John, he was able to come out same day. He mentioned he'd be there in 35 minutes, but then sat in front of our house for 30 minutes before ringing the doorbell. Weird, but we figured maybe he was having lunch or something. He spent a long time assessing our trees and talking up his services. He gave us an estimate (it was our first), and we initially decided to go with them as they could start the next day. We get to the next day when the crew was supposed to show up at 9am. We were told we'd be called if they'd be late. No calls, no show for hours. We called him twice before getting through only to be told that he told his crew not to go to our house today because of the rain. So then we've wasted 3 hours of our day waiting. We had already made appointments with other companies for estimates who came out the day that the work was supposed to already be started. After speaking with 3 other companies, we decide to hold off on getting our live oaks trimmed until it warms up enough so as not to expose our trees to possible oak wilt. We call him to fully cancel as his crew was no scheduled the following day. Well guess who shows up at 9:30am?! His crew, who apparently wasn't told the job was canceled. Thankfully someone was home, so work wasn't started, but that was completely unprofessional. Finally, during the whole estimate John kept mentioning how he wasn't a salesman, to be weary of other companies, and about how great his ratings are. He flat out said to be wary of any company coming significantly under his estimate. The 3 other estimates we received were between $300-1000 cheaper, all by licensed companies with certified arborists and great BBB ratings. We really wanted to trust John, but this series of events left a bitter taste in our mouth. I'm sure they do great work, but it won't be worth the hassle or the inflated costs. read more
