The current shop is located in a charming, historic house in Williamsville - everything is made on the estate. Alethea's has an outstanding selection of icre cream and chocolates. We opted for the two-scoop almond butter toffee sundae which has vanilla and chocolate ice cream infused with almond butter toffee crumbles from the chocolate store. Drizzled in home-made choclate and caramel sauces and topped with freshly whipped cream, the ABT sundae is a decadent tribute to the fine art of creamery perfection. They have all different kinds of candy, not just limited to chocolate. Like I said, they are expensive, but I think that goes with any specific candy store. The chocolate is smooth, creamy and perfectly dark or perfectly milk - either and both, as they are true to their names! The orange chocolate was "just a bit orange' - it isn't ORANGE chocolate, and we saw right off why this is a fave! The sponge candy - some wrapped in orange chocolate, some in dark and milk chocolate, and some sponge is even peanut butter! We were given generous sized samples, and bought enough for us and as gifts! The prices were all great, and considering the quality - VERY reasonable! They have a good selection, and of course I was looking forward to Orange Chocolate. Nope, my husband chose that and I had S'mores soft-serve. Those cones were huge and absolutely DELICIOUS! Ultra chocolatey, but not "just chocolate"! The orange essence shown in just the right degree and the S'mores was very chocolatey (I was delighted for that!) and had all of the s'mores ingredients shining in it as well. Okay, we did share and I was happy about that too! The factory part of Platters is fun, informative and live for some - video for other parts. The "chocolate shop" where you enjoy the candies and ice creams, is open and inviting. It is busy enough, but enjoyable too. For a great after dessert, I would recommend walking down to Sweet Jenny's on Spring Street just off of Main. I've done this on many occasions and their ice cream is always a delight. There's usually a long line, but it goes really fast and the service is with a smile. I like a nice scoop of strawberry ice cream, like the one you see in the picture. As an added bonus, if you get there before 6pm, there is a comic book store inside on the upper level! I scored a Dr Strange #6 from 1974. So grab your ice cream, and sit in the shade and read your comic books to the sound of a waterfall at Glen Park located just behind Sweet Jenny's. There's nothing like it.

I grew up on the East Coast, and remember sponge candy from my childhood, but Watson's has the first version I can recall that is covered in chocolate. Why this isn't a thing everywhere, I don't know. The combination is a winning one. I had their Charlie Chaplin ice cream, which is apparently based on their confection of the same name. Chocolate, coconut, cashews, and marshmallow are another stellar result of their kitchen. The person behind the counter was friendly and efficient - a great match for the establishment itself.
