Super disappointed. Took my daughter here to celebrate a special day. I got a hot fudge sundae with cookies and cream ice cream and she got the dirt road sundae. Both of our ice creams were extremely lacking in flavor. My ice cream had faint undertones of mint, as if it was stored or made next to mint ice cream. Yuck. The hot fudge was also severely lacking in flavor . The best thing was the malt powder, just because it was so different and intriguing. I am fine with paying a premium for delicious homemade ice cream. This failed on all accounts and we really feel like we wasted money. Neither of us finished our desserts. Stopped in to grab a few chocolate covered creams , asked for buttercream, orange, strawberry and a few chocolate covered cherries. First off it took the girl what seemed like 10 minutes to put together a dozen chocolates... didn't take them from the beautiful display case rather somewhere in the back... next unpleasantry she was less than friendly. I took the box headed to my car and took a bite of one as I was exiting the parking lot. STALE! Same for the next one! I should have gone right back in but was headed to an appointment... called the store when I had a free minute and explained this unfortunate incident. Told the clerk the candy was stale, she responded "it's not stale"... Then she abruptly asked me to call and talk with a manger or the owner in the morning. So word to those looking to stop in for candy particularly any of the chocolates... don't waste your money. I've had ice cream treats here in the past, once... can't really mess that up. This establishment has been around forever, and hopefully will stay around forever. It is still owned by the same family that ran it when I was a child. The ice cream quality was excellent then, and is excellent now. The candy selection is very good - and delicious as well. I finally had the opportunity to visit Antionette's for their famous ice cream! The shop is super cute with loads of handmade chocolates, and different pastries and other things to try. They've got everything you could imagine on shelves including all the fancy truffles and sponge candy! They make their ice cream home made and have a bunch of different flavors and sundae's to try. Best old school ice cream shop, hands down. The inside atmosphere is really cool. Many things look old fashioned and classic and it feels like you're in a 50's malt shop! The staff are great and extremely helpful. They will also pick up your dishes for you when you're done. They also give you a glass of water with your order which is nice. I ordered the hot fudge sundae with pineapple sauce and topped with whipped cream. No complaints but I also asked for extra hot fudge My fiancé ordered the turtle sundae with hot fudge and caramel, which was outstanding. Antoinette's also sells fine chocolates that they make in house. Visitors have to try the Buffalo Classic: sponge candy! They gift shop also has little stuffed animals and toys for kids as well. I love Antoinette's! This is the perfect place to get a sweet fix. My husband ordered a strawberry shake and I ordered a chocolate milkshake. The thickness and flavor never disappoints. They have multiple options so you can customize what you would like. They also have an option for thicker shakes which I will try at some point. I do think that their parking lot is pretty small which can be inconvenient, however at least right now since we have been doing take out it hasn't been a problem for us due to COVID-19 (we have been doing mostly take out!) This is owned by a french girl named Marie. Originally it was a bread shop, but one day they ran out of bread. The assistant manager said "Marie, we have no bread" and she responded "let them eat cake." The assistant said "we're out of cake too. We're out of baked goods in general." Repeat: *Get the ice cream!* I've tried ice cream all over the place, from Nantwich in England to Nantucket to Nunavut... okay, I've never tried ice cream in Nunavut. Nor have I been to Nunavut. And I've probably never eaten ice cream in the other places either. But my point is, I never expected to find some of my favourite ice cream in the world, right here in Buffalo. But I did. Oh, how I did. Ant owns the place, and the employees are sick of him forcing them to wear hair nets. Hence the business name: "Ant... Why Nets???" So I told you the ice cream here is the best in the land. But I didn't tell you the secret. Guess what. I know the secret, too. I shall now reveal it. In a second. OK, ready. Here goes. (Clears Throat). Sorry my bf left something in there, ew... salty taste. OK, sorted. Anyway. Here's the secret/ Antoinette's ice cream uses way, way, way more milk than it should. It's like, the highest percentage milk fat ice cream ever, like, in history. I'm not sure of the exact statistics but the percentage is way higher than basically everyone else including Jesus Christ himself. Yes Jesus makes ice cream, you didn't know that, call yourself a Christian. What's that? You're not a Christian? I wasn't talking to you though. I was talking to her. (Points). Her with the cross around her neck. Yes. Exactly. OK so. The milk. Lots of it. Tons even. Which is why their ice creams taste so delectably, delightfully, devillishly milky and thick and heavy. And *amazing*. They're just made so, so well. I was told that the coffee ice cream sucks, by an employee (I'm not kidding). I liked it... but she was right in that there wasn't much of a coffee taste. Very smooth and sexy and creamy and definitely not strong. If you like it strong, don't get the Coffee IC, just invite me home instead. I tried the coconut and the chocolate ice creams and both of them are like, a 10 out of 5. They are phenommmmmmmenal. I don't even like sweets in general, but I've been back about 10 times in a year to try both the chocolate and the coconut... again and again. I've even been here when it's snowing (check the pictures). I've also had the chocolate milkshake (which is really good... I had it made with vanilla ice cream... will have to try it with chocolate ice cream next time...) and the banana milkshake (which was not very good because I think the bananas used were too ripe), and then the coconut milkshake (which rivals the coconut shake from Handels in Ohio/PA, and I cannot possibly give it a better compliment than that)... The Chocolate and Coconut shakes must be tried. Over and over. Try everything once. Try these shakes once a week. Rules to live by. In my extensive experience, there is no better ice cream shop in WNY than Antoinette's. It's right up there with Handel's (OH, PA) and a couple of places in NYC as my favourite in the country. I don't say that lightly. Bravo, Antoinette's. Bravo. Edit: They have half off ice cream if you go when it's snowing. And since we're talking about Buffalo... that means you get half off ice cream about 260 days a year... ;) Double Edit: They're open pretty late too (9 or 10 most nights). And they have nice decor and plenty of seating. If decor and seating are your thing. I've also tried the Sponge Candy here and it was good, but better at Alethea's. I'll need to try it again and then update my review. And if your kids have no bread to eat tonight, then just do a "Marie Antoinette..." The wife and I stopped in about a week ago because we were in the area and looking for something to satisfy our sweet tooths. My wife had a chocolate peanut butter sundae, I opted for a pre-made sundae, the butter crunch crumble. Everything was OK, and my wife very much liked hers, but I wasn't crazy about mine. A specific issue for me was the butterscotch sauce. I was hoping for something a little closer to the traditional butterscotch sauce you'd expect, what I got was probably home made (which is cool) but it was much less flavorful. This place does not fail to impress! It's incredible with its old-school diner decor and its absolutely delicious ice cream. I will drive out half an hour to bring someone new here and watch them be amazed in ecstatic glory as they bite into HOME-MADE ice cream, whipped cream and the whole sha-doozle! It's incredible. The portions are also huge -- a small sundae will set you straight, unless you're ravenously hungry (but you're coming here for desert, not dinner--right??). Do yourself a favor and venture down to the bathroom and on the way observe the intricate secrets of Antoinette's sweet shop. You'll walk past A LOT of sweets and see that this is the real deal. Maybe you can memorize everything they do and open up a clone-shop so I don't have to drive all the way to Depew? That would be swell. read more

Antoinette's is a one of a kind local place. I got a butter cream sundae which was expensive and a size to share with more than one person. I like how they have a candy shop there and the old fashion look of the restaurant. I believe they make their own ice cream and it's very rich and flavorful. The sundae was awesome and after a few bites I felt full. You have to go to the restaurant with an empty stomach and a positive attitude. The service was quick and they made it easy. My boyfriend remembers this place fondly from when he was a kid. He's gotten me chocolates from here for holidays. The dark chocolate covered cherries are divine (my fav) as is the chocolate covered pineapple (boyfriend's favorite). Out of the other chocolates I think I liked the kirsh cherry ones best. Sensing a preference? On ice cream I tried some just yesterday and their coconut ice cream is positively perfect. Little bits of coconut in the ice cream and it has a really nice coconut flavor. You know you're eating coconut ice cream. I am not a fan of their whipped cream. I'm sure it's real and they put a ton of it on your sundae, it's just a little seemingly over-whipped or something. It left a buttery feeling in my mouth when eating it. Next time I'll say, no whipped cream. Ice cream and toppings were great. Crushed cherries, hot fudge really good. My dad used to bring us here when we were little. This multi-generational family business makes the best ice cream, whipped cream, sauces, sodas, sundaes, and chocolates. Even with having to make changes over time due to differences in suppliers or other things they have worked very hard to maintain both the atmosphere and the quality of everything. This is a high-class fancy ice cream be parlor and chocolate shop. There are tons of molded chocolates from tools to chicken wings to sports balls. The special sundaes are huge, and come to about $9. I gave 4/5 stars since they are expensive. At least a third of my sundae was homemade whipped cream. It's great if you love that but it's not my favorite and I wasn't expecting so much whipped cream. There were plenty of places to sit and my friends and I were a little confused at first because no one came over to greet us, but once we approached the ice cream counter, they were very friendly and willing to help. Not sure if this is a covid thing or not. Not a complaint, just a heads up to go to the counter for great service. Fun place to meet up with friends and they didn't rush us out, but bring a coat since it's a bit drafty with all the big windows. Would go again! read more

Antoinette's is a neighborhood classic, beloved by all who live in the area. My wife insists on stopping here every time we are in the area, and she talks my ear off about the childhood memories she has of the place. I appease her, because it's just too good to pass up. Everything here is homemade and that is a rare thing these days. The ice cream is so rich and creamy. I always get the black raspberry, without fail. My wife usually does too, except in the summer when she gets their seasonal orange pineapple. We always go for it in a dish with either hot fudge or sprinkles (or both) and you can't go wrong. I will say I'm not whipped cream fan, it's very thick here but i do like a little bit. They serve the ice cream on trays with little water glasses, that according to my wife haven't changed in 25 years. That's the thing- nothing has changed since she was a little girl and i find that to be amazing. Also, you absolutely can't discount the chocolate. I visited this place on September 13, 2018. The outside appearance is nice and visible, you can't miss it while driving down Transit. The inside has an older southern feel to it, but it's cool to experience if you're from the city like me. I was greeted immediately, it was so nice, she took my order very quickly and got started to make my thick old fashioned frosty milkshake (Root beer). I was really expecting a different taste, it wasn't what I imagined that's why I only gave this place 3 stars. I love Root beer shakes and this one disappointed me, it was not worth $5.71.
