Barber cut my hair way too short I asked for them to leave the top and shorten the sides a little. I then got a crew cut. Would not recommend going here awful experience. read more

Great place. Owner was extremely helpful. Definitely going back again. Next time I will make an appointment.

I had a cut from a mr myagi type and while the atmosphere was pleasant and the owner was good to me as well, the quality of the cut was lacking and the wait is extensive. I came around 530 and had to wait 2 hours to get a haircut. I was just expecting better based on the reviews but the stylist missed a handful worth of hair on the back of my head that has been sticking out haphazardly ever since. I gave him very specific instructions but on the top he seemed to do what he wanted and I ended up suffering for it. He also gave me hard lines on the back even though I told him to blend it and specifically "no hard lines on the back". It's just aggravating that I have a perpetual cow lick. I feel that the stylist needs to study wavy/thick hair more and hit the wigs and the books/YouTube. I would really appreciate it if he could have admitted he was not very comfortable at that before I chose him. I could have waited another 10 minutes on the 2 hours. Usually my hair is extremely forgiving but if you leave a fist full longer than the rest, what do you expect. read more

I can't say you pay for what you get, because their haircut is cheaper than Supercuts yet more meticulous and professional. I don't use the word perfect often, and I am particular, but this was perfect. I believe Tai cut my hair, though I couldn't hear his name well. Everybody looked like they knew how to cut hair. Fantastic. Can't say enough good things. Bonus: They knew how to cut Black hair! Seems like it wouldn't be a big deal, but trust me it is. read more

Blue Spark Barbershop - Getting my hair cut by Bill, the Owner. - Barbers Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

Bill the Barber has moved out of the Chop Shop, and set up his own place in the basement of the same building. He's still cutting hair as well as ever; he's still just as relaxed and laid-back as ever. Likewise, the place has a nice, chill vibe with coffee and magazines to keep you busy while you wait your turn. Speaking of waiting, Bill has added a sign-up sheet that helps you gauge your wait time on busy days. Show up, put your name at the bottom, see how many guys are before you, and if it looks like it's going to be awhile, you can head out and run some errands or grab a bite to eat. Just be back before your name comes up, and you keep your place in line. Makes it even more convenient to grab a haircut on a Saturday without taking up your whole morning. And yes, sometimes the place in hopping. That's because Bill's the best barber in the city. Period. If you don't want to believe me, just ask the City Paper (http://citypaper.com/bob/goodsservices/best-men-s-haircut-1.1058368). Oh, and I wouldn't be me if I didn't mention the guy's smoking hot. Blue Spark Barbershop - Barbers Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Blue Spark Barbershop (and am getting due for another, since it was about a month ago). The owner and employees are comfortably aging 80s punks with lifelong ties to Smalltimore, and will engage in spirited discussions with patrons about any number of issues, from the character of different neighborhoods to how a well known local, "Mean John," got his nickname (obvious reasons, actually - but apparently he's really bad with remembering people, too). I went in for a #2 buzzcut and shape up, because I was going to have a picture taken at work. The owner, Bill, suggested instead that I leave it a little longer on top to avoid the chance of glare from the flash. As far as barbering goes, I've never been anywhere else where they gave expert advice specific to my needs at the time, so I was duly impressed. The artwork on the walls is cool, maybe a little racy. A customer's little girl was performing a monologue when I first walked in, about how monkeys like to throw poop. I found it charming, but that probably wouldn't be everyone's reaction. The best way I can put it is that this is a place where a shlubby, middle-aged Jew like myself can go, get a nice haircut, and pretend to be one of the cool kids for a half hour. If that's not worth $20, I don't know what is. read more

Best place to get and in and out haircut for my son. It's located right under another salon Chop Shop. The owner Bill is a great guy easy to talk to and even plays some OutKast from time to time. read more

They listen to your input and then add their expertise to give you an awesome haircut. Cool people to talk to as well.

I've made this my new barbershop because I like the quality of service and the convenience of scheduling appointments online. I book my appointments with Tae and I'm always happy with how my hair turns out after he cuts it. Additionally, I like the atmosphere of the place because it's relaxing and makes time fly by fast. Anyone looking for an excellent barbershop should check this place out for sure! I usually park at the Safeway next door because it's the most convenient. read more

Just to give you all some background, I'm from the tri-state area so I have pretty high standards when it comes to haircuts. I saw this on yelp and decided to come in. I was very pleased with the environment. I went to my man Steve and asked for a haircut and beard trim. After 30 minutes, I was transformed from caveman to a BOSS. A couple things I like about Steve: 1. He is professional and well mannered 2. He knows what he's doing (10 years exp + went to freakin barber school) 3. He took his time and didn't rush anything. This is very important for me. He asked me before proceeding to go to the sides or before he would trim my beard if I liked it. He then listened to what I had to say and proceeded to do that. I trusted his judgment on a lot of things and was not disappointed. The one thing I wish the facility implemented was shaping up the beard and neckline with a razor blade. But i understand that is time consuming and for the price they give you everything for, you can do without it. I will come back here most likely. read more

I came in for my first appointment since COVID started. I have to say that I was reluctant because I live with someone that is high risk. However, they have made great changes and arrangements at Blue Spark to deal with COVID. - Appointments are now 1 hour, which allows them ample time to do clean up. I chatted for a while after my cut and they were VERY thorough with clean-up. Absolutely everything was sprayed down, even clippers that I don't think he used. - Seats are spaced 3 apart, so basically they are using Steve's seat and Bill's seat, at least when I was there. - While I was there, I was the only customer in the place. I think if they both had appointments it would have just been 2 customers. There is a rule of only 1 client per barber at a time in the shop, so I waited outside until he came out. The next guy came in right at 4. - Everyone wore masks the whole time. When he needed to do my sideburns he just asked me to take it off my ear and hold it on my cheek. No problem, just took a minute. While I miss the great banter Blue Spark is known for, that will be back one day. We just need to abide for a while and support them so that they are still around when COVID is over. read more

Exactly what the other two reviewers wrote - Bill is friendly and a great barber. I'm going bald (or so my wife alleges) and Bill knew how to handle my ugly-ass hair. Just make sure you know the hours before you go: Sun: Closed Monday: Closed Tu-Fri: 1pm-8pm Sat: 10-4 read more

Really underwhelmed by this place. Been going to a salon for a while and was looking forward to going to a place that catered specifically for men's hair. Heather cut my hair and I must say I've never had a stylist with a mouth as foul as hers. The f word was almost every other word out of her mouth! I've had bad days too but I never take them out on my customers! Additionally, I asked for a very specific haircut, giving her everything down to the size of the clippers I wanted; she simply didn't listen and gave me a very generic (albeit decent) haircut. Needless to say I'll be paying the extra $7 to return to my salon. EDIT: I was contacted by Heather personally and she apologized to me and offered to fix my haircut- a very nice gesture. read more

Blue Spark is the best barber shop in Baltimore City, hands down. It's cheap, it features experienced barbers, complimentary beverages, is a great place to bro-down, and is a place I can routinely spend 4 plus hours just hanging out. Everything you need is available at Blue Spark -- Bill cuts children's hair like a boss, is funny as hell, and runs a tight ship. Steve is my main man -- who else is devoted enough to his regulars to offer to come to the hospital and give you a haircut just because you're feeling blue after a surgery? He takes his time, and you get what you ask for. And the best part of getting your hair cut at Blue Spark is that the clientele features a wide array of characters to entertain you while you wait -- and I'm one of them. read more

I should start off by saying I usually HATE my haircuts for one reason or another and usually check off that shop as a will not return. I found Blue Spark on Yelp after letting my hair grow for several months after my last failed attempt at getting a cut. This place is a cool shop with good vibes and professional stylist. I went in on a Friday wit no appointment and was seen by Erin, the only female at the shop. She was really cool and helpful with helping my figure out exactly what i wanted done and how i wanted it to look at the end. I left feeling very satisfied and looking forward to my next visit. read more

Great local shop. I just moved to Baltimore and was looking for a local place to support that wasn't too old school. Enter Blue Spark. Down to earth barbers doing modern cuts. No complaints. Plus they take cards, which is not the norm for this sort of place. Awesome for those of us who never use cash anymore. I tipped a little extra to makeup for the fee the pay for the card swipe. I would recommend you do the same at any small business you go to. read more

I've been going to Blue Spark Barbershop for a few years now and I have nothing but good things to say. Every time I go for a haircut, no matter how busy it is, they always try to accommodate and make me feel welcome. The barbers are always nice and have an interesting conversation(s) going. Bill is especially friendly, and every cut I've received from him has been superb. The location is fairly tiny, but there always seems to be plenty of seating, and the choice of art on the walls is great to look at while waiting for your turn. I also tend to enjoy the music selection, which is usually on the punkier side, and is a nice change of pace from what's usually playing at the average hair cutting joint. The price is very reasonable, and the free beverages are a nice bonus, especially when there is a longer wait. Overall a wonderful establishment! read more

The best men's haircut in Baltimore - absolute top quality and super affordable. I've been coming for years, and now I have friends who drive up from DC specifically to come to Blue Spark. All the barbers are real pros. They listen to what you want but are also happy to lend their expertise about what will work best for you. Flat prices (from a buzz cut to a flowing mane) and no schedule (100% walk-ins). Add some free beverages, great music, and friendly conversation, and you can't ask for more. read more

Not only will you get an amazing haircut here, but the value is incredible. $18 is a great price for a really good haircut. I go to Bill, the owner. He's a pro. When I got home my gf commented on my fade and was all about it. I used to go to Floyd's - it was terrible. I also used to go pretty regularly to the QG but it became inconvenient to get an appointment, parking was expensive, and the overall feel of the place got a bit inauthentic. Try our Blue Spark, it's definitely not luxurious but you'll get the best haircut you can get in Baltimore. read more

I have been going to Bill since moving down from the long island ny area back in 2006 ( from beatnik to chop shop to blue spark). I am in that shop once a week, either getting a full cut every few weeks or just a clean up. Coming from the NYC area, we are very particular about our haircuts/edging/etc. I have found Bill to exceed my guy in NY!!! I have told many ppl about him, and they all feel the same. If he were closer to federal hill ( where I live, and make the journey from once a week) I guarantee he would be getting all of the young professionals that desire a clean, presentable look from fed hill, canton, and fells. Sometimes I wish he was closer to there, but I'll still continue to make the journey. Rock on Bill! By the way, the other guy he is hiring is great as well. I've had cuts by him when Bill was not available. Please excuse any typos as this was written on an iPad.......damn autocorrect. read more

I've been to many barbers over the years. Usually when you find a good place you stick with. This is the kinda spot Blue Spark is! THE GOOD... -great haircuts -customer centric service -open early -personable staff -good size waiting area -great prices -barbers take their time to give 100% -accept credit cards -can usually find street parking or in the Safeway lot THE BAD... -if you arrive at the busy times be prepared to wait an hour or more (just not enough barbers at times to handle their volume) Overall this a great barber shop. I can't recommend Bill and his crew enough! Highly recommend Blue Spark! read more

The owner is an a friendly man who knows his stuff. In eight years in the Northeast I only found a couple of people who cut my hair right. How has no one reviewed this place yet. This is the first place in Bmore I have gone to get a haircut and I've gone nowhere else since. I went in with long hair and came out with short hair originally. Since then I've kept it more on the short side and Bill (the Barber) does it just right to keep it at a length where I don't look like a scenester or a hippie before I need to go in for a trim. He also does hot shave cream neck and face shaves with a straight razor. How can you beat that? $16 a cut, which is usually $20 even with a tip. Bill will chat with you about anything from tattoos to old punk rock and biking. He will listen to how you want your hair done and make sure you don't look stupid when you leave and there's Zeke's coffee for the edgers and Jack Daniels and Natty Boh's for the non's. Have fun while getting your hair cut and know you're in good hands. read more

Everything you would hope for in a barber shop, and is exactly not a "salon." Good art, good conversation, good coffee, good music (mostly) and, most importantly, good, careful unfussy but responsive haircuts. Also Bill is great with kids. They can get a bit backed up especially on the weekends, so get there early, but its worth the wait. read more

I've been searching for a regular barber or stylist on and off for a few years and I've found what I'm looking for at Blue Spark. The ambiance is great: good conversation, bohs and coffee on hand, a handful of magazines, and enjoyable music. It's a classic barber shop with a more modern feel. Both Bill and Steve are technically superb barbers, which is only where it begins. The first time I got my hair cut there, Bill asked a lot of questions about what I liked, what he could do, and what would work with my hair. He stopped to show me details and offer advice amid the usual conversation. In the end, my haircuts there have been very good, exactly what I asked for, and done with attentiveness and care. I'll be going back again and again. read more

I used to cut my own hair but one night, i somehow messed it up so i had to go to a barber shop to fix it. Bluespark is the one with the best review i see on yelp so i decided to go there. Bill took care of me and although i never had the kind of haircut he gave me (short fade), i really liked it. Since that night, i've become a regular customer. Steve also once cut my hair and he's great as well. Didn't try Tae yet tho. But im sure he's good as well. They are all very professional, friendly and the place is clean. There's parking upfront but it's always full so just park at the safeway nearby. Overall, they are just great guys. I'll keep coming back even tho i love in downtown Baltimore. It's worth the drive. PS: thanks for saving my haircut that one night Bill. You rock :) read more

Long wait on Saturdays, but appointments are available. Excellent haircut, good tunes, the barbers are all funny as hell. Great price for great haircuts. Minus one star for having to sit for over two hours without being told how long the wait was. But I'll definitely make an appointment for next time and maybe earn that star back. *UPDATE* Going with the fifth star. I've been a few times now both with and without appointments, and this is definitely my new barber shop. You will not regret a haircut from these guys! read more

Place is absolutely awesome and Bill is the man! Visited the barbershop back in late November 2015 and there was a 2.5 hour wait, which was disappointing but also made me realize that this was the place to get a haircut. Decided to leave and come another time. The holidays came and went and I decided to take the plunge again at trying to get a haircut. I called on Friday to ask about when the best time to come in was on Saturday. Bill answered, and was extremely friendly and let me know that right time was when they open on Saturday or later in the morning. In addition, he mentioned that in February 2016 they would be starting appointments, but would still accommodate walk-ins, as that is the style that has made this establishment successful. After receiving my haircut today, it's safe to say I know why people stage outside the barbershop minutes leading up to the opening. The shop is simple and clean, with plenty of seating along the wall to view the artists at their work, while the sounds of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra echo in the background. The barbershop has 3 chairs, which helps maintain a constant flow of clientele but also implies that the barbers in the shop know what they are doing, rather than the typical machine line barbershop with 12 chairs and 12 inexperienced barbers. All three barbers were articulate in their questions and precise in their movements. My haircut was perfect and the conversation with Bill was better! If you are looking for a classic barbershop with barbers who know how to cut hair, this is the place! 5 stars to them, and I hope that more barbershops around the city learn that all you need is four walls, a few chairs, complimentary coffee from the local coffee shop down the street, and men who know how to cut hair! I will absolutely be back and will recommend this place to anyone and everyone! read more

These guys are as good as it gets! Every haircut I get from them is top notch. I've had my hair cut by both Bill and Steve and have never left disappointed. Recently I got my haircut by Steve and told him I was getting married the following week. Along with some nice words of encouragement and congratulations on my milestone, he said the cut was on him. He even refused to let me tip him. I couldn't thank him enough and I'm truly thankful to have such a nice privately owned business in the area.
