Neighbor hood restaurant and dim sum
Stephanie C.

I try to come home for the chicken and rice or salted fish with pork and rice dish. Prices for each of these dishes are $9.50. Service is quick and easy with one person working the counter. The ambiance is like most restaurants. They also have tables to eat your meal.

BBQ Pork Bun

Kind of on the outskirts of Chinatown in that weird transitional space that flows into North Beach. Not very high traffic. Takeout only right now, even though there seem to be seats/tables. Very good value and solid quality. Though there is a mix of hits and misses, so best to try a few things so you're guaranteed a few stars. Shrimp Dumplings: A great value at $3.60 for 4. Just as good as the ones served from pricier dim sum carts at restaurants. Lots of shrimp inside a delicate skin. Pork Siu Mai: Another reliable favorite, familiar on dim sum carts. Very meaty and hearty. Chive Dumplings: It was ok, but not as a good as the other two dim sum items. Seemed like a lot more greens than shrimp. BBQ Pork Bun: Steamed bun with sweet sticky pork inside. Very crave worthy. Pan Fried Pork & Vegetable Bun: Only slightly browned from the pan fry and not crispy. The inside felt kinda skimpy compared to all the bread. Only a little pork among the cabbage. Liked the BBQ pork bun more. Fried Meat Dumpling: These were so yummy. A gooey mochi like dumpling that is deep fried to have a delightfully crispy skin. And the inside was like beef and mushroom or something, very umami. Chicken Rice: So I like that there is a nice thick layer of crispy rice at the bottom of the pan, which ends up on top of the takeout container. However, wasn't a fan of the chicken. Every piece had bones in it. And not like big drumstick bones that are easy to eat around, but tiny little shards. So you have to be really careful eating this. Especially since the crispy rice acts like a false flag in the nonstop game of "Is this a bone or is it crispy rice?" Not worth all the effort.

Blue Sky Restaurant advertises best dim sum And it's true otherwise they would have taken the sign down.My favorite spot for dim sum to go in Chinatown SF. When i wanna practice my Toisan I come here or I listen to Daddy Lau Parking is a lil hectic as it is SF Chinatown. There is a garage on the next block if you want that piece of mind. With the location being close to the Chinatown Police station it's very safe area. Today I ordered and would order again Beef balls- it's like the Chinese version of the meatball. Order this please Bon appetit Shrimp dumpling - really good and the skin not to thick. Pork sui mai - good sweet from the alcohol and juicy from the pork. Fresh tasting ground pork that they most likely minced fresh from actual slabs. T Porridge -pork and preserved egg -When the greed take over and price gouge $8 plus this place taking care of the community and the people at $2.50 The best porridge I've had in a really long time as it reminds me of grandmas porridge with the whole Shabang. Order this please Buns 3x Custard bun- at .90 cents a piece . a bit pricey but their plain bread and custard filling makes up for it. The plain white bun itself is very satisfying airy , moist, spongy imagine a steamed Hawaii bread all white. The egg custard inside jiggly but holds it shape reminds me of dan tat (egg tart filling) When it comes to good food there is no set price. To my satisfaction this all came out to $16 3 steamed dim sums (4 pieces per order) 1 porridge 3 steamed buns 16 total items for $16 1-1 ratio let's go ! Service Menu is written in English and prices are shown CASH only Straight shooter for the best dim sum in SF in my opinion

I was waiting around and parked in front, didn't even realize this place served dim sum until several people walked inside. Intrigued, I looked it up on Yelp and the reviews said cheurng fun was good, so I went in and got a beef. It was good. The folks ahead of me also ordered the cheurng fun too. Nice snack. I'll be back.

Specialty are the baos and pastries, but the dumplings, while limited in variety are great. This place is better than You's.

The event going off without a hitch was really important, especially because the bride had lost her mom and didn't have her to celebrate this special milestone. I wanted to make sure the order was on time and there were no issues with delivery. I ended up canceling my original order because DoorDash wasn't going to confirm a dasher until the day of the delivery. I re-ordered through DoorDash but this time as a pick up. Again, DoorDash's service was leaving me unsure because they weren't going to send the order through until the pick up day. This was $500 worth of dim sum and I didn't want to take a chance the restaurant didn't receive the order or that they couldn't fulfill it in time. So, I canceled that order as well. I called the restaurant directly. They took my order without hesitation and made me feel at ease that everything will be ready on time. I called again in the morning to confirm my order before leaving for pick up. I couldn't get a hold of anyone, most likely they were busy with their Sunday rush, but they called me back even without me leaving a message! When I arrived my order was ready, The food was hot, packaged so nicely, and everything was clearly prepared with care. I was helped by a very nice staff member who made us feel like we were longtime customers. My daughter and her friends absolutely loved the food! Thank you so much, Dumpling House. We live in the Peninsula but will be making the trek to the Castro to support your restaurant. THANK YOU!

In fact, the quality of it was very authentic and was on par with other places in more Chinese-centric neighborhoods. Just one star less because it's slightly pricier (probably the fault of rent in the neighborhood). I also don't like it when the tables are too close to each other and when restaurants are too loud. There was no outdoor seating, unfortunately. Service was good.

The chicken corn soup was delicious and hearty- definitely filled me up and was what I was looking for. The cha siu bao was fluffy and came packed with meat inside, definitely a good ratio and very warm and yummy. The liu sha bao was similar, the bao was so soft and fresh. We had a very good experience dining here. The front desk guy/server was also really nice. I would definitely come back here if I was craving an authentic Chinese meal.

Naturally, I thought the same would be for this location, ordering for delivery. Sadly, I was proved very very wrong. I got a total of 3 items and paid a little over $50 not including tip.First plate, stir fry noodle Shanghai style 0/5. Noodles were stiff, entire plate lacked flavor, it was really dry. The cabbage was just sort of thrown in there and to my surprise, there was chicken (I didn't think it came with meat) and it was so suspicious, one bite and I immediately had to spit it out. It was chewy and tasted uncooked. I began to lose my appetite... Sesame Chicken 0/5 - it was all batter, little to NO meat inside whatsoever. Saucy but it was very clumpy. I was so disappointed with this one. It was literally just eating fried batter in sesame sauce with sesame seeds thrown on top. Braised String Beans - 2.5/5. They were fine, flavored enough with the grilled onions and garlic other than that, not impressive at all. I had really high hopes for this place/order. I had been craving Chinese food for so long and was going to order from my typical place but decided to give this one a try. I definitely should have stuck to what I know would have hit the spot. An absolute waste of $50, so frustrating.

Is there a law that says food can't taste THIS good without some sort of warning label? You know,…read moresomething along the lines of: "WARNING: Excessive deliciousness may cause your brain to go into shock from an overload of endorphins." No? Well, there SHOULD be one at this restaurant! We stopped by for some Sunday dim sum, and DAMN! Did this place knock it out of the park! First off, the ambiance was AMAZING! Sitting outside next to the ocean with that cool coastal breeze rolling through on a beautiful Sunday afternoon? Chef's kiss! Honestly, the weather alone was already setting us up for a great experience before the excellent service. But the food? Oh, it took things to a whole different level! Steamed Dumplings (XLB): 100/10!!! The flavors were absolutely SPOT ON! The skin was incredibly thin and delicate, making every bite a perfect balance of juicy filling and soft wrapper. Just the right thickness to soak up a little dipping sauce without overpowering the dumpling itself. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! The Rest of the Dim Sum: Everything pictured below absolutely delivered! Not a single disappointing dish in the bunch. Black Swan Taro Puff: Now THIS was probably the most interesting dish I had during the entire meal! The texture was unlike anything else we ordered, but the filling? DIVINE! The combination of century egg and chicken created this incredible explosion of savory flavors. It's one of those combinations you wouldn't necessarily expect to work so beautifully together, but somehow, it just DOES! Every bite was a little adventure. Absolutely loved the creativity behind this one! Peking Duck: Let's just say a picture is worth a thousand words. 10/10. NO NOTES! Final Thoughts: Between the incredible food, beautiful oceanfront ambiance, and that perfect Sunday afternoon breeze, this was easily one of the highlights of our trip. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and the flavors were just phenomenal. I genuinely cannot wait to return to San Francisco, even if it's just for another meal here! And seriously, someone needs to look into that warning label. This level of deliciousness should come with a disclaimer!

Heads up that this is mostly a takeaway spot and they only have 1-2 small tables. The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
