Same menu I've seen at Barley's so I knew I'd like the food & I did. Shared a spinach dip & tried a martini from the specialty menu. I meant to try some different ones but I liked this one so much I just ordered it two more times. I would have liked getting all drinks in on the happy hour prices but the response was a bit slow. Took nearly 10min after ordering the second martini before it arrived. It wasn't real busy at the time either. It is a nice place for happy hour but just faster service time would have made it great. read more

Just returned from the Blue Moose on Woodland in Lenexa. It used to be one of our favorite bar/restaurants. In order to beat the anticipated rush we entered the restaurant at 5:45 P.M.. I ordered a key lime pie martini and was told it was still happy hour. When the martini came the glass was literally half full. Well, it was happy hour and I guess that gives the bartender the right to serve half a drink for $3.00 off the original price. I did mention it to our waiter, Eli and he agreed that it was a low pour. Then we ordered the fish and chips only to find out 15 minutes later that they were all out. Really, it was the first Friday of Lent and it wasn't even 6:30 yet. When I expressed my frustrations to the so called manager his way of dealing with it was to comp my half drink and have us go else where. We gladly left but I will not be returning until there is new management. I realize that since "Covid" many things are not the same but customer service at Blue Moose has left the building. Great experience, great environment, and great food. Staff is very personable and professional. Wait time for food was reasonable and the variety of menu options were great. Portion sizes were very filling and appropriate to their pricing. Atmosphere was relaxing and humorously eccentric with a blue moose on display! My only qualm was that the televisions at each booth and around the bar kind of imposed whatever channel it happened to be on and kind of detracted from the social element of dining out, but I suppose that's what comes with the building since it used to be a sports bar. I'd definitely like to come back and explore some more of the beer specials they have at the bar. Great fun place for a good time out! read more

Made a reservation for 6:30 arrived the place is busy when we checked in it was 6:05 . Explain we had a reservation. Was told maybe we would be seated around 6:30. We watched lots of people being seated with no reservation. At 6:40 we were finally seated. And told sorry for the wait. We were the last to be seated. We told the guy e had a reservation his said oh . Again Customer service here was awful. Food was good. No bread with meal. And salads were extra. Horrible customer service here. First time at Blue Moose and will definitely go back. There are so many choices on the menu and everything looks good! My husband had a chicken pasta dish which he said was excellent. I had mac and cheese with steak. The steak was very good and so was the mac and cheese, although the bread crumbs were a little salty. Waiter was attentive and helpful. Happy hour and daily drink specials are a good deal. It resembles a sports bar, but was very quiet while we were there. Really enjoyed. read more

Manager could not have been less concerned. No apology, and second round of drinks was the exact same story. Only getting one star bc it won't allow me ZERO STARS. Take a look at the most recent reviews and it won't take long to realize why the restaurant is empty. Called around during the Big 12 championship game ONA SATURDAY NIGHT to find a wait time at restaurants of 45+ minutes. Called Blue Moose and there was no wait. There is a reason for this folks!!! Take this as a warning - don't go! Learn from our mistake! Started off with having to remind the waitress 3x I would like an orange for my drink. If only that was the worst of it. There were 3 to our party. 2 received their order. Cold vegetables. Waited at least 10-15 minutes to get my entree. No waitress to be found to ask about the order. No clue what they were doing bc at 745 on a Saturday night, they barely had any tables. Once I received my order, steak was cold and bleeding. Not the medium I asked for. Vegetables were cold as well. After the waitress didn't seem like it mattered much, asked for the manager. Manager offered a half apology and told us she would comp our meal 50%. 3 out of 3 of us clearly heard it. We had the manager repeat it so it was clear. That did not happen. We were given 35% off our meal and, when we asked about the discrepancy, the manager said she never said that even though all 3 of us heard it. Basically called us liars even though she was the one that lied. I realize it is a 15% difference. Doesn't matter what the difference is. I'm in customer service and know when you state something, you follow through and do what you say. You don't say one story and do another. She basically ripped us off and took our extra 15% off. Not good customer service at all. I used to love going to this restaurant but it has absolutely gone down hill. Learn from our experience. We go to the Blue Moose al lot and this was the first time we have been disappointed. The service was slow - the Manager was nice enough to get our drinks but then we waited a long time to order. My food was up first - - my husband was told the pizza oven had problems so he had to wait longer. It would have been nice to know so he could have ordered something else. It was really kind of a mess. It would have been nice to get some kind of compensation. Food is always good and it was tonight just not the best dining situation. Update....tried one more time. Just as bad - server informed us he had two large parties so it might be slow. Was so right - we got up and left. Off our list now permanently. read more

A Tale of Two Restaurants. I went to the Blue Moose location on 101st street in Lenexa twice last week. The first time was Tuesday evening, November 6th with my wife, two kids, and my mom. My mom and I had the Fish & Chips, my wife had the Red Miso Glazed Salmon, my son had the chicken tenders, and I don't remember why my daughter ate. We had the Spinach Artichoke Dip as an appetizer. The food was excellent, and the service was great. My wife loved her salmon, and the fish and chips were some of the best I've had. Great experience, 5 stars. We were so happy with the experience, that we thought we'd try out the Sunday brunch buffet the following Sunday, November 11th. We arrived at 11:45am, and there were three small parties ahead of us. There were four of us, my wife and our two two children. Shortly after we arrived, two other small parties arrived, one of which was another couple with two small children (just like us). We were quoted a wait time of 5-10 minutes, and looking around the restaurant it was only about 75% seated, so we didn't imagine they'd have problems seating us. However, we waited for 30 minutes, and the staff there seated the two parties that came AFTER us, before us. The young gentleman who was the host clearly had screwed up the list or forgot us, though we were sitting right in front of him by the door. About 20-25 minutes into the wait, he offered to seat us at a high-top table, which we had to decline as we have a two year old and high-tops would be dangerous for her to sit at. When we were finally seated at a booth we were already frustrated. When we were seated, our waiter didn't come by to take our drink order for 10 minutes or so. Given that we were all very hungry at this point we gave up waiting for him and had already gone and gotten food. The waiter was polite, but we only saw him two or three other times throughout the meal, and I had to ask other staff for refills on drinks. Very disappointing service, we definitely felt neglected. Finally, the food. The brunch buffet they had laid out was actually really impressive in its diversity of items. They had sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, waffles, spinach artichoke dip, chips and salsa, cookies, chicken curry, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, and other things I can't remember. However... at any given time half of the items were completely (and I mean completely) depleted, and the items that weren't were usually running out and on the last dregs. For example, my daughter likes breakfast potatoes but every time we went up to get some for her they were completely gone. I never got any bacon or sausage. The eggs only had the last few scraps. The kitchen was very clearly not keeping up with the demand. I only saw chocolate chip cookies once. Keep in mind that this wasn't at the end of brunch, when the kitchen was winding down - it was 12:15pm and the restaurant was almost full. By the time we left we'd been there almost two hours and there were things we'd wanted to get that we simply couldn't. Overall we were HUGELY disappointed. A poor host experience, a poor wait service experience, and a frustrating food experience. One star experience. I've worked in food service, and waited tables for almost three years. I'm not one of those people that sours on a place because of one little thing that goes wrong. I understand that sometimes things don't go quite right for the restaurant and a mistake or two gets made. We'll still consider going to the Lenexa Blue Moose location for dinner. But our brunch experience was so bad that I'd caution against anyone else going to brunch here, at least at this location. I would have given this review overall just one star, except for our dinner experience just five days earlier that was so great, so I feel compelled to give back a star. read more

I wasn't quite sure what to make of this place. It has a nice bistro feel to it, but some of the decor conflicts with it. Then there were all the TV's that lent themselves to a sports bar feel. I didn't know what to make of the music they were playing. It was all over the place. We were greeted and seated at a high top. Not wanting a big brunch, we chose to order off the menu. We started with the empanadas. I thought they were really good, although the gentleman that brought them to the table was obviously not having a good day. He was clearly not happy. That said, the young man that mainly took care of us was attentive and friendly. We went with the spicy chicken salad, and the 1/2 smoked clubhouse sandwich with a cup of chicken noodle soup. The spicy chicken salad was really good, but the sandwich and soup missed the mark. There was no smoke flavor to the sandwich. Maybe that was because there was hardly any bacon on it, and way to many slices of lunch meat and cheese. The soup was mainly carrots with way too many herbs. There were two tiny pieces of chicken, and the kicker was that there were no noodles. :/ ? I'll chalk it up to an off day, and will be back to give them another go. read more

Worst service ever! Food was over priced. Small portions and tasted as bad as it looked. Ahi tacos we're horrible. Two tacos and mushy tasteless rice for 14.00? Unacceptable! Not only two tacos two tiny corn tacos which were served with two extra tortillas? For what? The fixings that came in the stuffed tortillas was minimal. My girls meal was cold and the meat was all fat and mostly bread. Pretty much inedible. The waiter was just as bad! First asked for drinks. We both said water and said we were still looking at cocktail menu. The crab cakes we ordered came and they were just ok. Then dinner arrives and waiter never asked about further drinks. Blue moose is owned by parent company of barleys brew house. I'm pretty sure the owner would like if wait staff offered for or be more attentive and ask if we were ready to order that drink yet. Neve happened. I left a $5 dollar tip, that was probably too much. Overall a disappointing meal at a high price. I do not recommend at all. read more

Kind of surprised only 3.5 stars.... Blue Moose is always packed, doesnt matter the evening. Huge fans of Thursdays, with premium beers for only $2.50! I'm sitting here in the restaurant while I type this review. First off, it smells like grease in here, but that is not typical. The bar staff is always great, and I mean great, and the food is typically quality, but the bathrooms need some major attention. When restaurants can't take 10 minutes to clean the bathroom stall doors & walls with a Mr. Clean magic eraser, it's a sure sign of complete laziness. If your restrooms aren't clean, can we expect that your kitchen is? The management changes monthly, which is questionable & it's just clear that this restaurant needs a lot of attention. We have been very regular customers since Blue Moose in Lenexa has opened & frankly we have not been very happy a lot of the time, yet we continue to come. What an opportunity to make things better! Hopefully, the reviews will be read & things will change. The restaurant business is very competitive. read more

For pandemic curbside pickup of really good food, this place rocks! Super easy online ordering, scheduling pickup. They were on time both times I've ordered there lately. Party of four family members for lunch. We ordered Small Plate Breaded Artichoke Hearts and Fried pickles. Both were fantastic. Lunch my sis-in-law ordered the special crab sandwich which she couldn't put down. My brother and I ordered the Artichoke Bisque (of course I got the cup) he got the bowl. That for me was the highlight of the entire meal. My nephew had the Cheddar Ale soup. He said was very tasty and had a bit of a kick at the end and you could definitely taste the Ale as well. The boys ordered a Short Rib and Pepperjack Pannini. They offered up no complaints. Our server was fantastic. Of course the ladies had to have dessert to go. We got the chefs daily special cheesecake. I wasn't too sure I got the name right but the crust was snicker doodle so I figured it would be good. Will let you know. Like to come for happy hour. Decent food- good deals during happy hour: featured martinis $3.5-4. Ordered spinach and artichoke dip, comes with pita and tortilla chips, but this time barely had any chips. We asked for extra chips, but when the bill came we noticed a $1.99 charge for extra chips. I see why the Overland Park location shut down. Management does not seem very involved. We walked into the Lenexa location and the hostess just stared at us and didn't say a word. She seemed to really hate her job. Our server was pleasant, but that was the only positive part of our visit. We went in for lunch. I felt like some beef, so I ordered the short ribs from the dinner menu. The dish arrived and it was floating in a watery sauce that was room temperature, and was EXTREMELY salty. The portion of meat was about 6 ounces, which for $16.99 is not a very good value. The inside of the meat was cold. Which tells me it was probably in the refrigerator and warmed up in microwave. Very tasty and quick, great drinks, except waitresses should be knowledgeable of the different wines. Was funny when she didn't know what an Alamos Malbec was that I was asking with my steak.
